Just a follow-up, I follow your recommendation, no protein for 2 months and my hair pretty much recovered, tomorrow will be my first time back to incorporating protein and I will be using the Miche protein moisture balance DC, other than that my shampoos, leave-ins, daily moisturizers, butters etc. will not have protein or anything that acts like a protein and protein/strengthen products will be used bi-monthly! Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

I remember learning about protein overload the hard way. I went to sleep with a protein mask. More is better I thought 😭What a mess. My hair is medium porosity. It took me a while to figure that out. I was studying both porosity camps trying to figure out where I belong. I went back and forth until ding ding duh medium porosity. I bought an old old school clarifier. Neutrogena anti-residue. It used to be called free and clear I believe.

This video was helpful and precise. My hair can’t take too much protein(pt) either. On impulse, I often buy a lot of sales items designed for black naturals because I’m trying to get a grip on what my hair likes. I’ve only been natural for 2 years. Unfortunately, I already had 2 separate setbacks from pt. overload in which I lost a-lot of hair. I’m finding I can’t leave pt. shampoos and conditioners in my hair for more than 5 minutes or I will have overload. I have thin low porosity hair 4B/4C and my length is armpit. I cut/dust my ends a lot due to knots and breakage therefore I don’t see much growth anymore. Thank you!

What happens with protein?
@michelleervin8997 Жыл бұрын
If you ever experienced protein overload just like Sherry in the video and myself, it may cause the texture of your hair to change for the worst and cause severe dryness, tangles, knots, breakage and just a whole lot of resistance when it comes to managing your hair. Therefore, it’s pays to keep your hair strands balanced with moisture and occasional protein ingredients. It took my hair a year to recover from PT overload and get my original texture back of 4b hair. Several of the moisturizing products and advice made mention in this video helped me to bounce back as well. Now, when my hair starts to feel mushy and and easy to stretch, I will shampoo occasionally with a product that has some protein at the bottom of the ingredients listed and slip. Then, I immediately follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner and stylers that do not contain any protein. This has been a game changer for me.

@@michelleervin8997 noted, thanks. I think it might be helpful, also, to understand "hair structure/science" instead of trying many different "products" to see what works.

Yes. At the end of day, one must know their own head of hair and what works for you as well. Trying out different products is a part of the trial and error learning process especially when leaving a relaxer lifestyle. My biggest mistake was not paying much attention to the ingredients and not understanding what my hair could or couldn’t tolerate. Although, must products say they are for all hair types, that’s clearly not the case. I now understand it better that less is best for my own natural strands to thrive.

I have been battling protein overload for a year now, my hair is sensitive to aloe vera and coconut and for some reason they seem to be in every hair product that claims there protein free .Do you know if there is any product I can use to correct this?

Hey I have a question does protein overload stop hair from growing ?
@foxshear Жыл бұрын
Yes and no, your hair will keep growing, but because of the stiffness and brittle nature of protein over load it will be breaking faster than it is growing, so without length retention there will be np visible signs of growth.

I checked the ingredients and the Giovanni products contain protein. Do you think they changed the formula?
@sherryberrydc77442 жыл бұрын
Hello, I checked my 50/50 Giovanni shampoo and conditioner and I did not see any proteins with (hydrolyzed) it does have aloe vera which can act like a protein. I know some of the other Giovanni products have protein. I may just have an old bottle. Good thing you checked the ingredients. Thank you for sharing I will keep an eye out for protein.
