When Samus gets hyper beam at the end of super Metroid, then why is she not immune to x? The dna was infused with her power suit to get the hyper beam so wouldn't she be immune to x the hole time?

Sure he was a little shoehorned in, and maybe it didn't fit tonally, but being the best Ridley bossfight in the series, having 3 badass remixes of his theme, and strengthening the continuity between Prime and Super makes it worth it.

I think Proteus Ridley's defeat in SR also explains why is ridley so weak in the beginning of super metroid compared to his battle later in the game

@@RobbWes other M takes place right after super metroid so everything she is going through is due to grief and possibly PTSD, he issue in the game was we were seeing samus as she was when she worked in the Galactic federation. Also they wanted samus to suffer PTSD due to having killed ridIey only tofind out his actual life cycle snd to find out federation cloned the monster that killed her parents. On another note i believe to connect other M to Prime, Adams brother will have become sylux after being left for dead and his reason for him hating samus is cause she did not ignore adam and save him like is shown in other M flashback,

Just to add to what you were saying about how Ridley would know about Samus taking the Baby to Ceres Station in Super Metroid. Samus took the Baby there illegally, so it wasn't even part of her original mission. Meaning Ridley following her makes more sense as to how he knew she took it to Ceres Station.

This is from The Nintendo Official Guide Book for Super Metroid: "However, a sole infant remained alive on SR388-the rescued Baby Metroid. (In terms of the original mission, this had been a violation of duty) There, you can see Samus' true feelings. A sole survivor like herself... No one else to rely on, a lonely existence... Samus imposed her fate onto the baby, becoming its mother, almost as if she were trying to raise it herself." And also at the end of Other M, the General said "With your predilection for transporting illegal cargo, like infant Metroids"

I’m torn on Proteus Ridley tbh His boss fight, sheer surprise and official art just look amazing, not to mention the regeneration factor easily makes an already terrifying creature that much more threatening. But in game, idk, he just seems too vibrant for me, and I know the entire game has a more colour filled pallet compared to the rest of the series, but bright green and pinkish Ridley is a bit to garish for me personally, but if they tuned down the saturation id definitely love him a lot more I know this is probably a controversial opinion but I thought I’d share it anyway Love your videos man

One reason a lot of people are confused about Proteus Ridley is because Omega Ridley supposedly explodes into Phazon dust in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. However, it's also important to consider that, unlike the other Leviathan Seed guardians, Omega Ridley's defeat is not shown on-screen... and therefore, we don't know that he really disintegrated. It's perfectly plausible that Omega Ridley simply escaped the Leviathan Seed off-screen while Samus was reeling from her Phazon corruption.

Yeah the explosion of Phazon Dust is pretty weird to justify. I always just assumed he teleported cause a ton of phazon creatures can teleport. Maybe Prime 4 could give more insite of that

@@MetroidTrainer Dark Samus can regenerate after being blown to Phazon dust (she could do this in Prime 2, before she became pure Phazon). I assume Ridley regenerated after Samus had made her way to Phaaze. Then after she destroyed Phaaze, the Phazon was purged from his system (like you mentioned in your video). Retro Studios was making the Prime games knowing they are set before Super Metroid, so I don't see why they would "kill" Ridley, without setting up a way for him to come back.

Now imagine that in the Super Metroid remake the first Ridley will have barely no cyborg parts and then when you get closer to the second ridley Fight you'll find the cyborg parts on the ground and then Ridley swoops in and the fight begins with the fully regenerated ridley

It's likely that Ridley was already on SR 388, in the room before you acquire the Super Missile you can see these glowing red eyes in the background. There's no real indication of what they are but they are most likely Ridley's eyes as it's similar to how he appeared in Super Metroid in the beginning. Ridley was likely following Samus for much of her adventure in SR 388. Probably biding his time to make his strike.

Fun fact ridley gained two fingers during his meta phase. In ZM and Prime 1 he only has 3 fingers per hand in Prime 3, Samus Returns and Super Metroid he has 4 per hand

Samus Returns was my introduction to the Metroid series and I was happy to have a Ridley fight. And it was surprisingly challenging. This game hits hard and forces you to learn to survive. Maybe not as hard as Diggernaut but both fights offer different things to learn. As for whether Ridley fits game wise or not, I didn't mind it once I'd learned the canon because of the Prime connection. Plus it gave Samus another opportunity to bond with baby Metroid, which I loved for the character detail. But this battle easily could have *taken place* circa the beginning of Super Metroid if the developers had wanted. They could have shown Samus + baby boarding the ship and departing Metroid homeland. Then have the game transition to a brief scene circa Super Metroid where Samus loses the baby. Have Samus beat Ridley (as the final boss of this game) while showing Ridley escape with the baby as the final scene, foreshadowing that it's now the start of Super Metroid.

Perhaps MB was surveying Samus the entire time- especially because she had history/knowledge of the planet, Samus, and the Chozo (being a construct of the latter). When Ridley fell, MB alerted the pirates retrieve Ridley. The X parasite likely left Ridley alone given how it was perceived to be dead/useless. Moreover, it’s possible the X parasite wasn’t adept enough to consume Ridley (if in fact it evolves while integrating other genomes into itself).

Ridley being on SR388 also explained Neo-Ridley in Fusion, it is possible thant a X parasite used the claw of Ridley that we see in the cinematic to mimic him.

Other M isn't canon. It doesn't fit anywhere and badly contradicts every other game of the series (especially Fusion). Samus Returns also subtly implies a different origin for the frozen Ridley in Fusion (an X copy made from genetic material left on the cybernetics he left on SR388 after the fight with Samus). There was an X RIGHT THERE (it grabbed the hornoad).

I guess Nintendo finally decided to accept the Prime Series as canon. The reason people still believe it is not canon (myself included until watching this video), is because Nintendo, for a long time, did not want to accept the Prime series as canon. The reason for this, is because the Prime series was not Nintendo's idea, Retro Studios is American-based. Well, to be more specific, it was not the idea of the original Metroid creator, and it was not something Nintendo ever demanded from the original Metroid creator and development team. Nintendo gave Retro Studios the greenlight for the profit potential, but behind the scenes, Nintendo did not want to accept the Prime series as canon.

Flight logs answer your question about how Ridley tracked Samus to the Ceres Space Colony. Just like the Aurora units, Mother Brain possesses the capability of tapping into comms or radio transmissions, network, etc. Chances are Mother Brain tracked Samus after SR388 knowing Ridley was already there.

Ridley in this game explained a great problen in SM. How the hell did he knew the last metroid was in the Ceres station? It was more simple to go to the Metroids homeplanet to look for one, and that is exactly what he did, but in there, he found Samus with the baby. He tried to take it, but Samus defeated him. Is because he saw Samus that he knew she was in there to kill all the Metroids, and now the only one left was in Samus' possesion. That explains perfectly why Ridley went to Ceres, because he followed Samus

I'm very passionate about Metroid's lore. I have over 3,000 hours into Metroid prime, and a bit over 2,000 between prime 2 & 3. I've spent countless hours just reading about Metroid.(Including reading through the logbook in the prime games) I'm not trying to boast by saying any of this, but I consider myself well versed in the lore. Though this video didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know, I really enjoy hearing or seeing others delve into the lore of the series. I enjoyed this video, and I think it's good to have videos like this to help people better understand Metroid's rich and expansive lore. To me, Metroid is one of the most underrated video game franchises ever, especially when it comes to it's lore. You should definitely make more videos like this. If you want suggestions, I think that a video on the space pirates and their society/military or how the Metroid prime became the Metroid prime, and how it later became Dark Samus would be awesome. Again, great video. I hope to see more in the future!

Before Proteus Ridley I didn't recognize Proteus. Then I checked and it is one of aquatic gods of greek mythology. However if they wanted a god name in Ridley then why not Thanatos Ridley? Because I don't know Ridley is the god of death who is also the title of Thanatos so why not?

Him going from mostly cybernetics to organic always brushed me the wrong way, since every time I saw him, Samus would blow the crap out of him with beams and missiles. It feels backwards. But I guess viewing it as him with a super powerful regeneration ability instead shows that he was brought closest to death in his first appearance. And since then somehow managed to improve his ability to escape before dying, to the point that Proteus Ridley was able to heal not just the last of his parts, but to do so whilst also recovering from a serious beat down. Makes me wonder if his regenerative abilities were getting stronger every time. Giving us the final reborn Ridley in Super, back to full strength but now with the wisdom of many fights. And yet, the battle here, for being his last, is not one of the most exciting. Of course it was the best Ridley fight of the time, but it does seem a bit lame knowing how important that death is. What I find so bizarre is that Samus doesn't seem to learn until Super that she needs to vaporize his corpse. At least in Metroid 1 she thought she beat him well enough. But ever other time, she shoulda put in that bit more effort. ESPECIALLY with Protues who is one of the few versions that doesnt appear to die. She clearly leaves him with a mostly intact body. What was she thinking? ANyway, this does solve some questions I had. Thanks!

3:36- To my knowledge, it has never been established that Metroid II and Super Metroid take place back to back. The two games take place in the same year according to the Metroid Timeline, but that doesn't mean they take place within moments apart. The time frame between Metroid II & Super Metroid could be days, week, and even months. The only thing time frame wise established within Super Metroid is that after Samus was satisfied all was well she left the Ceres Space Colony, but wasn't even able to make past a "presumably" nearby asteroid belt. All this says is Super Metroid takes place very close to when Samus left the Ceres Space station, but how much time Samus spent at Ceres, and how long it took until Samus decided to leave the baby Metroid in the hands of the Ceres space station scientist is unknown.

@@R0-83-RT Beta-Rays are only used for duplication. In Prime 1, the Space Pirates learned that the Metroids only get nourishment from active bio-forms. They tried synthetic sustenance and it made the Metroids weak. Also, they didn't find out how to speed up the aging cycle until Fusion. The Computer tells Samus they wanted to find a way to make a infant grow into an Omega within days. It's why at the end of the game, you come across 3 Metroid husks in sector 1, and then when you get back to your ship you find the final husk and the Omega Metroid is there (a Metroid had rapidly grown from infant to Omega).

While I loved Proteus Ridley's appearance at the end, there's a few things I'd change about him: 1. Less mechanical parts to really show his regeneration. 2. Have some of the parts he still has on get blown off more as the fight progresses but we see his flesh healing underneath. 3. Show him eat some SR388 natives to help regenerate his flesh. No need to be bloody, just grab a toad and gulp it down in one go 4. Have him catch the infant Metroid with a container similar to the one in Super; Samus frees it after the fight is over. 5. Let him give energy orbs along with Aeion ones between each phase 6. Have the fight move to another location where after Samus beats him, Ridley tumbles and falls into a pool of pure Aeion. A massive explosion happens that Samus just manages to escape and the remaining mechanical parts scatter all over the place, making Samus believe he dies. After leaving the planet, we see a mid credit scene where a purple claw rises up before a fully regenerated Ridley pops out of the Aeion pool, stronger than before, sees Samus's gunship fly off in the distance and prepares to give chase after her, setting up Super.

One thing that still confuses me is How Samus has the grapple Beam in prime 1's intro. She never got It in Metroid 1, and not even zero mission with all the power-ups. She got the Power grip in zero mission, but it's still not that close to the grapple Beam

True....I never once thought of that LMAO although it IS entirely possible she got it as part of the data from the power suit she receives in Chozodia as she is given her full arsenal plus unlocks the ability to use weaponry she couldn't before she lost her power suit so perhaps it also unlocked the grapple beam for her, another thing is that we do not know how far apart Zero Mission is from the prime games and we know she didn't arrive on SR-388 till much after so yeah unless Samus had another mission after zero mission and before Prime 1

Yeah it's kinda weird with Omega ridley disappearing in a cloud of phazon particles, but I've always assumed he teleported after his defeat cause a lot of phazon creatures can teleport. Also maybe we might get more info about Omega Ridley in Prime 4

I would love to see a video about the impact on the story/lore that Other M had. Maybe giving some arguments for/against it being canon, and then some of the upsides and downsides of it. It feels to me like the entire story (disregarding the Samus/Adam plotline) feels forced in. The idea of cloning Metroids was already done in Fusion, so there wasn't really much that the overall story really added to the timeline. The only thing it really accomplished was giving us some back story to Samus and Adam's relationship, but it feels like that was meant to have taken place so much farther in the past than it really did. On top of all that, Fusion is the game that cemented the Federation as the bad guys and severed their and Samus's relationship, but Other M tried to show us all of that as well. It all felt so done already. I would love to hear your (much more knowledgeable) thoughts on it.

Basically, Other M is non-canon, and you can bet that it will never be referred to again. Its plot is badly inconsistent and contradicts every other game in the series (especially Fusion), and it doesn't fit anywhere.

Solid explanation, but there's still one plot hole. Samus never hesitated (to try) killing Ridley in Metroid Zero Mission, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, but here she settles for incapacitating him and simply leaving him on the planet. The idea of Samus not only sparing such a threat but allowing him to tail her and sabotage her mission is Metroid: Other M levels of bad writing.

Ridley is good at playing dead. That's how he survived Zero Mission in the first place (otherwise he would really dead in Zero Mission). It's only in Super Metroid that Samus ensured that Ridley stayed dead by literally blowing him to pieces.

Well, Ridley being in SR388 would give an explanation for how Queen Metroid and her offsprings were able to breathe fire. You know, he's a dragon, and Metroids are capable on copying abilities of their victims, so he might have tried to do something with the Queen (on which my joke of Ridley being the baby Metroid's father is based on).

And in Metroid Fusion, she had Metroid dna and ability to gain powers of X parasites she absorbed. So, here's my theory. 2) Or, he intruded the Queen's nest, ended to contact with her, retreated, and was hanging around above planet's surface, waiting for better chance to attack and steal Metroid(s).

I thought I remember that the Ridley on the space ship in prime 1 was a clone in the logs to the original Ridley. Plus in Prime 3 you fight against another Ridley clone I think the log says at the galactic federation planet. So I believe Omega Ridley might be the one true Ridley so far out of all of them at the time.

Nope...you're misremembering. The Prime 1 logs states that Ridley had been upgraded with cybernetic components after his fight with Samus on Zebes (in Metroid/Zero MIssion). There is only one Ridley.

Other M contradicts the rest of the series too much to fit in, it's a pile of garbage, and nothing you say will ever get me to consider it canon. It contradicts the very basics of how her suit works as Fusion outright states, and the other games imply. And it directly contradicts the Prime series in story. (And Samus Returns confirms those games did happen.)
