I think Mimiku is actually a ghost type Pokemon similar to say Gastly as it has a ghostly appearance for the second we see it and it does use a gas to kill. I think it's either a dead Pikachu that can't accept that it died or a more vicious Pokemon using the disguise for malevolent purposes such as tricking and killing.

It's very possible but the thing is you would still need more evidence. Also I don't think that Porygon can form into a Mimikyu. I think it is a ditto that died and it saw something on the ghostly side and ditto is forever trapped as that creature. Ditto think it is so ugly so that's why when it see's itself it makes a pikachu costume. Also they said that Mimikyu is dresed like the thing it hates. I thought about this and I thought of a conclusion to that. Maybe the ditto's that died had a very bad experience with Pikachu so it dressed like Pikachu. It may be that ditto had unfinished business with Pikachu so it came back and itis ready to take it's revenge. That's just my theory. I don't have proof sadly but I thin it is a possibility.

Here's a thought. First, Mimikyu's Wood Hammer is only in its moveset because it's equivalent to Pikachu's Iron Tail. It uses the piece of wood it has for a tail to strike foes. There's a chance that Mimikyu are actually ghosts of all the failed attempts at making a new Electric Mouse Pokemon mascot. That would make Mimikyu the ghost of all the Pichu, Plusle and Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, and Dedenne that were never able to live up to the expectations the creators held for them. Living in the shadow of such a star like Pikachu, all they wanted was to be Pikachu, in turn, they also resented that they could never be a real Pikachu and thus want to be rid all Pikachu. I can assume there's a reason you only find Pichu in the Alola region, and why they're so hard to find. To breed a Pichu, you MUST have at least a Pikachu since baby Pokemon can't breed. Since you can only find Pichu, only those who evolve into Pikachu can breed, however, Mimikyu don't allow themselves to be seen. Tying the anime to the main games, you can find a picture of Ash's Pikachu on his shoulder in the small room you're suppose to battle the Totem Mimikyu in.
