For those asking how far the counter went, Jon kept his promise and left it in full view for the rest of the stream. It just got up to 6072 when he decided to end the stream. He didn’t even finish the game onscreen, he just quit the game after the ‘Stream’s Over’. (I assume that’s what happened, all I heard was a Wheel of Fortune-ish sound effect) Link if you want to see for yourself: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laLYqaGirpmkrbc

I think I know what happened. It counted from the amount of time Gex had remaining, then when Tom ran out of time, it went into the negatives, hence why it started counting up, but the game doesn't know how to show a negative, so it looks like it's counting up.

It’s worth being noted, for NO logical reason, they programmed the timer to hit FOUR. DIGIT. NUMBERS! Why?!
@brolytriplethreat5 жыл бұрын
Because integers in programming don't normally care how big your text box is. They probably just had it print the number and align it to the right of the box, never thinking someone would glitch it up and get it to count upwards towards presumably the largest number the type of integer can possibly hold. Which could be over 60000 or even over a billion depending on they type of integer
@thetruestinsanegamer104 жыл бұрын
You can figure out the integer number using the system itself. 8-bit typically goes to 256, 16 going to 64,550 or something close to that. This is probably between 3 million and 300 million or so, judging by how the game looks. That said, they might have programmed an area where it can appear, so the numbers would get cut off after some point. Even without that, at some point the number would just go off screen.

I have a bit of programming knowledge. I think what's happening is that the timer never gets resets, but keeps decreasing. While we see it counting upwards, it is actually going in the negative - the programmers simply didn't put in a "-" sign for the display.
@zorquil Жыл бұрын
So, here's my question. Why it was programmed with 16-bit/32-bit instead of 8-bit? 255 should have been the limit, yet it went above. Or was there an overflow that it started going into other memory banks?

Why didn’t these guys just choose of the bonus question answers
@Crazykidthree334 жыл бұрын
They said that they're more curious on how high the timer goes than they were interested in continuing the game. Continuing to play also would've fixed the timer at some point, so they didn't play anything to not compromise their own curiosity.
@MorganNye4 жыл бұрын
@@Crazykidthree33 but that was the biggest problem and just completely ignored finishing the game I was waiting for them to choose but they did not care at all, also how does the timer get fixed if the boys chose one of the answers?
@Crazykidthree334 жыл бұрын
@@MorganNye Exactly, they didn't care to. So they didn't, nor should they feel obligated if they don't really want to. It's just a game after all. As for the timer, it could easily be fixed by the way it resets normally in the game. Like, changing turns between people the timer might start counting down from 60 and should normally reset back to 60 once the turn is up so that the next player also gets 60 seconds. Likely, the more they continued to play, the more likely something would eventually call upon the timer to set a new time to get it back to normal. It's just how code usually works in these scenarios, because it's smart and efficient to reuse the same timer over and over rather than use more code to make entirely separate ones that serve the same exact purpose.
@MorganNye4 жыл бұрын
@@Crazykidthree33 ok then, but what caused the time to be up when the bonus question came up and then the timer went negative?
@Crazykidthree334 жыл бұрын
@@MorganNye Somehow, the game didn't know what to do when the timer hit zero while in between trying to swap to the questions and either something had overwritten the timer reset temporarily or had skipped past the check in the code to reset it. It can also be incredibly convoluted to the point that several things need to happen over mere fractions of seconds that weren't intended to happen together, or be as simple as the timer merely needs to hit zero while the game is loading the questions to make it forget to reset the timer for the next player.
