I love when I finally get to test! Up to that point all the ideas are just concepts that work really well in my imagination. I know from experience that some things don't work as well in the real world as they do in my head. You can imagine how fun it is for me when everything works really well ! Very enjoyable cooking experience! I'm loving it so far and plan to keep experimenting. I want to explore the casserole size pan--cook a roast, whole chicken, bake a cake… I've got some work to do! Follow along with me by subscribing so you can see how this casserole dish works out.
That brings me to the one issue I have. What do I call it? I need a name and would love to hear your ideas. I think this will appeal to the Bushcraft community so... "Bush Iron?" "Bush Cook Iron?" "Bushcraft Cooker?" "Bushcraft Cook-All?" I guess "Cast Iron Cook-All" makes the most sense...
What do you think of this what-cha-ma-call-it thingy? I've only given you a taste of it's use-potential but what do you think so far?
For those trips where space and weight aren't a concern I think it will be awesome! Sure works well for how I've been using it! I'm super excited to continue exploring its potential!

This is really exciting! I love how the Fire Box fits right inside and can also provide support and protect the ground when used as a base. Very nice safety feature! I like the higher ridges for the grill surface because it will give more area for grease to fall away from the meat. I think it would be amazing if the tool had one end with grooves that were able to scrape between those grill ridges and a flat side to use on the griddle surface. Maybe they have a nylon coating or something so you don’t damage your seasoning or perhaps you can suggest a different tool for cleaning the sides between cook modes? Just my two cents. Can’t wait to see the casserole! My only concern with this product is if it makes the stove too too heavy or prone to falling over.

The stove is definitely not prone to tipping over if it's well supported as it was in my testing. Everything felt very solid but I can see how having the stove on soft soil or sand could pose a problem. Makes perfect sense 👍😎

Looks fantastic!! A tall version combined with this version can replace a fry pan and cover. This would give you the benefits of cast iron, a cover to put coals on for baking.

As someone who almost exclusively uses (at home) cast iron to sautée and fry, I'm excited to see this product. It's probably too heavy for long hiking or backpacking. But for car camping, overlanding, etc, it looks ideal.

Now that's a cool product. Really adds a lot of utility to the standard 5" without taking up too much space. Pretty good idea for those hobbies where you're more concerned about size than weight. Would be a great addition to the truck or even the bottom of a pannier on a big ADV bike, giving the utility of a big skillet without all the awkward packing. Shoot, I'd even consider it viable for heavier camping loads in the plane, when I'm willing to throw an extra pound in the load for a little more comfort in the bush.

Looks great. I love that the big stove fits inside. Great that the x on the bottom will accommodate all the Fire box stoves that so many of us have. Fondly remembering cooking on Cast Iron over a campfire as a kid, this product is the one thing that was missing from those adventures. Easily portable practically sized cast iron. Looks really great! 😃👌 I would suggest to have one pan with a smooth inside buttom and one with the grill grates inside. Then you don't have the problem with cleaning the soot outside before flipping, like you had, but still have both benefits. 😉 And I would not use a metal scraper for cast iron. Otherwise you would damage your hardly earned patina. Keep up the great inventions! Best greetings from Austria.

That's a good idea but I'm having others telling me I should never touch the pan with a metal spatula. I personally don't worry too much about the seasoning since it's pretty easy to touch it up as you go 👍😎👌

Got me a rare 6" round Lodge that has deeper sidewalls than the typical one that I've used for years! "Slicker than snot on a doorknob", meaning very well seasoned and very non-stick, lol! But when this is released, I'll be getting 2 and replacing my beloved 6" with them!

Sweet product!!!!! Do they nest for space savings? Maybe make more use if the handle. One side can be a striker for a ferro rod. Round one end so it fits in the corners of the cast iron pan for cleaning out those corners. Drill holes in the handle to lighten it up and allow it to be hung on a small hook. Add a notch for using it to pull tent stakes. That can be a multi tool and a handl little piece of work. The rest look sweet! Send me one and I’ll test it out when I do Dolly Sods.

Soot management has been the issue with me cooking food and meat directly on the Firebox stoves using the grill. This could be a good solution for the stoves you take on moto camping or on car caming trips. Again, I love the inovation that just keeps coming. Cheers!

Yes! If you're not cooking over hot coals you can get quite a bit of soot on your food. That's why I always grill over hot coals only. Or next to the heat to get that radiant cook going on. This makes it the simpler because you can have the flame directly under it and use wood that may produce quite a bit of soot like white pine. Thanks a ton! I appreciate your feedback!

Looks fantastic Steve! Read alot of comments. Had to stop. They just keep going. A testament to how good this concept will be, and the awesomeness of the user's of your product line. So many great thoughts and ideas. A carry bag really sticks out in my mind. W/compression straps to compress bag depending on how grill/griddles you carry, and there size. The accessories, etc. I like the tool idea w/ slots in one end to facilitate cleaning the raised grill marks, and flat on the other w/an up sweep like you have for cast-iron removal from firebox or whatever. Or maybe a wood or bamboo cleaning tool. Flat on one, and ribs or ridges on the other. Hmm! A bag to contain all w/compression straps. No matter what you put in the carry bag, the straps will keep stuff from banging around possibly damaging contents. Sorry. Long winded. Mind going a million miles a second here. I'm in regardless. Great ideas everyone . Looking for more. Steve said it. The more stuff we can get for the kit, the more fun we get ta boot! Take care and may God continue to bless you Steve. I like it! Looks like a japanese omelette pan. Suggestions on the handle piece; if you slot it like teeth to fit the grill groves you can machine the same slots on the rim for it to be used as a handle.

I love this concept for convenience, compactness, and adaptability. A larger size for sure would be great as would a discada or scottle style pan, small, campact like this. Fantastic, I definitely want a few!

Thats all great work and i dont really have anything to add. Maybe use the handle as a multi tool? Put a hex hole in the end ir middle of it or add a beer opener to it? The cast iron is going to be awesome out camping and can double as a bear mess er upper😂👍🏼 Great job

Sign me up for a pair bud! As always another impressive addition to the firebox family. I wouldnt personally flip over the unit used for a pan just because I love cooking but hate cleaning! lol Having good luck with my cast iron at home using avacado oil. Push the temp to between 435-450 for 45 min for a good season to take. Keep up the great work my friend!

Excellent Steve,,, Another multifunctional piece of gear. When you consider using the Firebox Gas Burner or the Trangia Gas stove you can bring your Griddle into environments that won't allow an open fire. Iam definitely looking forward to watching you demo the Larger size griddle. Iam completely confident that you'll perfect the proper multifunctional handle for this kit; along with a sturdy carry bag. My feelings concerning weight, when it comes to Outdoor Cooking; Not everything has to be Ultralight,,,, especially when you've got a couple of Sturdy Goats,,,lol The joy of cooking in the Outdoors for me, has a much higher priority, then worrying about carrying a few extra pounds.
