Proven Hunting Tips for Using Deer Scents

De-scenting and occasional cover scents. That's my MO. I wash all the clothes I wear hunting with baking soda, then store them in a bag with two zip tied coffee filters. One with activated carbon, one with a mix of leaves acorns, pine needles, and a few drops of organic pine essential oil. That's my de-scenting and mild cover scent. When I'm using a blind (not a tree stand hunter) I place a few drops of non estrus doe urine 360 around me in arms reach. Mostly to cover windage. Works for me

Tie a drag rag to your boot on a tether. It works well. This way your hands are free and it creates a trail for any deer to follow.

Tom Sutts when I started for hunting I use that stuff not anymore I studied the deers in the woods and learn something something complete different I am defend generator but if you touch any plans with your hands did you got to go down to the nose and smell it to get me if you walk through the woods you have five miles event your scent is in 1 hour what five miles away and don't tell me they can smell their touch the trees that doesn't work

First of all thanks for the video, been hunting whitetail for over 2 decades, that's not much compared to some guys I know, guarantee you one thing... nobody loves it more lol. A bucks nose is unreal so anything to mask human scent is a plus, ....guys that work during the week have to go when they get a chance, regardless of the wind or weather---- EVERYONE GO!! I have a real question, does using tractors to get up soy beans and corn etc put pressure on deer??? I hunt a farm and it seems the guys picking up soy beans etc is pushing deer into being out at night only

I always like Steve Bartyalla he has the Experience like most Guy's who has done the same too help Us out during the pre-Rut & the Rut, Hinge-cutting trees putting down mock-scrapes licking branches planting trees I try too follow his experience even with a plastic Doe with really is a Buck I just remove the Antlers near a bate pile less than a week ago so I will see the activities when I go back up in 10 days 3 day for bow Season and 5 Days for rifle Season. Wish me luck Guy's & gal's this will be my First Buck Or my legal Doe Hunt.

Hi Scott: Special Golden Estrus is Fresh and Premium doe urine with estrus secretions. Every bottle is labeled with its own serial number and Use by date. Golden Scrape is a blend of Golden Estrus and intruding buck scents with a subtle tone of earth scents and territorial musk. A blend of smells that you would find in an active scrape.

Killing a deer isn't the issue, I can do that 98% of the days I sit in a stand .... anyone searching for scents at this level want to be scoring trophies. Now if you are like 99% of the populations that's gonna shit on me for saying that so be it but while I have total respect for the hunter who says "can't eat them antlers, I want a freezer filler" ... I am a trophy hunter that doesn't waste anything.

I do the same with my hunting clothes ...keep them stored in a plastic tote filled with pine bows and cedar ..minus the doe pee . Wouldn’t the doe pee give you away walking into your stand ?

I'm in the same boat as you, I have watched every video that has come out, spent thousands on hunting, and I'm 53 almost 54 if I live to see December, I live in the south There's not a whole lot of deer where I live and hunt, I have killed deer before but I have never killed a buck that I could mount on my wall, I have never killed a deer in the county that I live in. I always pee in my own scrapes. Have had great success with it. I have multiple scrapes this year, made by deer, in the exact spots I made mocks last season. I am going to try a bead form scent from Denver's Deer Scents I think though.

Yes, people who work can afford it, problem is alot of people who work do so because they don't have money to spend on equipment they don't need. If you give a kid Enough money for this equipment they can afford it, however they won't have money for anything else. Don't assume everyone makes good money, that's not how the world works bud, some people hunt for food because it's cheeper than store bought meat.

Sure I am going to get a lot of stuff on this. I might use some scent killer on my cloths. Not much though. All I really use is a foot locker with sticks and leaves in it from where I hunt. I keep all my cloths away from everyone in the house. Then I wash with scent killer soap. I normally see and kill a deer every year. People have been killing deer for years and I do not see why you have to spend all your money to do so.

I can buy into the cover scents a little bit. But the main thing in my view is wind direction. I believe in using tarsal glands from rutting bucks and also doe urine from does in estrus. I've had big bucks walk directly toward me as long as the wind is in their face they trust their nose more than anything. I definitely believe in getting as high off the ground as possible. These are just My Views guys my opinions things that have worked for me.

I have shot many buck useing the tarsal from the buck I shot the previous year . I cut them off and freeze them for the next year and when im done hunting for the year I hang them over scrapes withe my camera on them, lots of buck visit them.

i use the doe's tarsal gland as well as the buck, but go a little beyond and found out it works really well for me.. when i killed a doe, if she's in estrus or not i'll take her urine and bottled it as soon as i can and freeze it...i'l thaw it out and pit into a little spray bottle and use that urine as a cover scent... try it and see if it works for you?!! freeze all those things after every hunt.

I cut the ass end, tail, vagina etc out of a hot doe and hang it on a tree near my stand. I learned that from putting a doe hide on my fence and I had bucks bedded at my back door one night right by it

Can't control or predict ... just a method of, as Steve says, "getting bucks to spend an inordinate amount of time on a given property." The more things that can distract them, the better the odds they will eventually make a mistake.

You cram 50 scrapes on a small property that bucks have to go through hell to enter and ONE with a dripper and you will get a mature buck in early season to peak rut as long as you hunt the best conditions.. Weather, wind etc. Learned it from this channel and it works every year

You can do the same thing using a bottle of Ammonia and distilled water 50/50 mix , Cover your scent Wash your outfit in just plain cold water hang out doors to dry , place Pine limbs or dirt in the trash bag or a good sealed tote . drink coffee and pee in a clean jar . I pee in the woods have seen deer walk right to it . Buy a Good rubber boot Lacrosse Muck boots 80$ but you have less sent left on any trail. Sent away is just a sale sceam . Play the wind always come in from up wind or a cross wind . Looking at them food plots and timber cuts they did a lot of work on the land to draw in big bucks to sell you to earn more big $ True fact . I bet the area they hunt on is over 800 acres posted or has 6 foot fence around it .

Lol, I think your taking this scent thing too far. I remember peeing right out of my stand when I was a child. My father would leave me and hey, I had to pee. My father was always scent covered, doe pee, camo. Etc etc etc. I always wore blue jeans and maybe green shirt. I always killed more than my dad and I even smoke cig while hunting. These deer see man year round running tractors and planting crops and timber crews running through the woods etc. Relax, deer Don't know when deer season starts. I have never had luck with wildlife research products. (Sold at walmart). Code Blue Buck urine! Amazing stuff....not the estrus...the Buck urine....it works almost all of the season. Our season in Florida is more than 4 months. Estrus is fine during the peak of the rut. You can use them both....but you don't have to....Buck urine! Code Blue! It creates an angry response...like a man hitting on your wife! While you're sitting next to her.

Depositing deer urine on the ground in this age of CWD is just irresponsible. Regardless of what scent manufacturers say ("our scent comes from a CWD free herd") there is no way to test urine for CWD prions. And just because you don't have deer with clinical signs of CWD in your herd, or your killed and tested deer didn't have CWD, doesn't mean the disease couldn't be latent in your herd. CWD can have very long incubation times, before outward symptoms develop. If you don't stop putting deer urine on the ground for the benefit of the future of deer and deer hunting, at least do it for the more selfish reason of not screwing up your own hunting ground.

2 days before every hunt, I drink a gallon of freshly squeezed doe urine with a cup of salt stirred in. I have yet to even see a deer in the woods, but I know this is the secret because some guy wearing a camo hat at cabelas said he does it.
