PRS Private Stock Paul's Guitar 1985 Limited Edition

When a selection of wide-curl Maple tops were making their way into the Private Stock Wood Vault, Paul Reed Smith knew they should be saved for something special. That special something ended up being the Paul's 85.
‘Paul’s 85’ are a special run of Private Stock guitars, painstakingly spec'd by Paul and meticulously crafted by the Private Stock team. Paul picked the tops, the selection of woods, assisted on the neck shapes of every guitar, spec'd the pickups and played and adjusted each guitar until it was just right. The team executed each detail while he looked after each instrument on a daily basis.
We’re lucky to have received the very first example of this limited run here in the UK, and we couldn’t be more proud to put it through its tonal paces, to give you an idea of just what the Private Stock team can achieve.

Not feeling the zebra pickups on this particular one, but otherwise it's one of the best PRS guitars I have seen. 3:11 Nah dude people who buy these just keep them in the case and play their Custom 24 :D

Your right - I bought a non-used Private Stock & kept it in it's case (like the person before) until P/ex for an aged Gibson that I didn't need to worry about knocking!

@@kianshahrokh Well.............there's reasons why companies will limit production into making consumers believe it "should" be a collectable guitar. PRS has its followers and Im not disputing that and there guitars are top quality. But if we take a look at a 58-60 Les Paul with the unique wraps inside the pickups and the fading paint jobs that they once had. Those were considered mass produced guitars for that era. Gibson eventually fixed the paint and the pickups changed later on. Those guitars are considered the best looking and best sounding Les Pauls ever made - and Gibson felt at the time that those guitars had many flaws. My point being is that there needs to be a reason its a collector and it being limited doesnt fall into that category - IMO. When guitars are produced and then highly sought after years and years later, while also becoming rare, thats a collector guitar.

Maybe you just need a better job ? PRS are priced for the quality you receive in the instrument. Overpriced is a Fender bolt on neck, solid color, mass produced strat/tele.

PRS guitars are worth every penny. After you've tried one, you realize what you're paying for. Even the SE and S2 models are great, but the core models are several steps above those. Obviously when you get from ten top to private stock territory, it's more about aesthetics and customization, but any core and below will be great straight out of the box. I have a Gibson Les Paul and a Charvel and can't say either compare to the quality of my 4 PRS. The Gibson is a close second.

Fellas Fellas - we dont need to bring our pride into this comment. If you feel justified buying their instruments - all the power to you. And if you think this private stock is worth $15k US or 12,995 UK, you're very fortunate. IMO - any electric thats priced over $5k, is too much - for me at least. At some point, our pride needs to be put aside when it comes to brands and focus more on improving our playing. At the end of the day, this is just a MUSICAL instrument. Cheers!

At some point, I am wondering if such beautiful guitars are more ornament than musical instruments? let's be honest; I am not going to go gigging with a 13k guitar, so there is no point for me to have one.

@@gringopig True... but I would not be concerned about playing an old beat up vintage playing grade guitar. With all the relic stuff, nobody can tell them apart no longer. So unless someone knows you own the real thing, you can take them along with you. I have a vintage telecaster which I got for a few thou., because the pickguard, frets, tuners were replaced, and the one owner repainted the body at some point. All the rest is original, but no collector grade.

It is (weird, strange, interesting, depressing -- choose your own descriptor) that the monetary value of an item can so drastically change our relationship to it. To my ears, this is a superb sounding guitar. To my eyes, it is a gorgeous looking guitar. If I were to purchase something such as this, I would use it. If I gigged, would I gig with it? The older I become, the closer to answering "yes" I get. I'll stop here, and spare y'all my take on the psychology behind such thought processes.

Nice. Overpriced though and would have been better if it has been tuned first. Saying all that, would you rather have the pinnacle of PRS or a ratty refin pre CBS Stratocaster? I would buy this if I was rich without hesitation.

I think the world of guitarist can be divided into two camps. Those who love the look of a PRS, and those who wonder how anyone can love the look of a PRS. I’m in the latter, brain just can’t think the body shape is too small and the horns too odd. But I guess some people buy brown cars so , well to each their own
