Mark uses his SEs on the road instead of his USA models. He in fact told a story at a clinic that I went to, that a fan brought one of guitars he purchased to a show to get It signed, and asked if mark would play it during the show and he did. He said they feel so good to him always that itnjust felt like his own personal instrument

Man I really love your videos. You kinda go against everything I hear or read on the internet. I mean you hate flat radius fingerboard and love super round ones, which is pretty unusual: You love tune-o-matic bridge which is probably the most hated bridge out there, and at the same moment flat hipshot-like bridges feel weird to you. The Alpha/Omega set is a very "djent" oriented, super dynamic, super tight pickup set, and yet you totally went for a different approach, you just played your style and I really appreciate that. Your channel and your reviews have your unique and personal flavour, and though we have pretty distant tastes guitarwise, I really enjoy hearing your playing and your opinions. Still, I think you should have played some wide open chords with a full gain sound to show the pickups clarity, which is one of their selling points. Cheers mate, have an awesome day!
@agufish

Thanks dude! Really glad to hear you're enjoying the videos! I like what I like, and I try to be clear and consistent about my preferences, that way if people watch my videos for a while, there's kind of a clear gauge about what to expect from the instrument if they ever play it in person (whether they agree with me or not lol). Guitar is such a subjective topic, just reciting the specs isn't that useful for really portraying what the instrument is all about on video, so I try to add that personal approach. :) And yeah, maybe I should have tried to write something a bit "djent-ier", but as I said, totally not my style of guitar at all lol.

Yep, just picked one of these up today. I like it a lot. The only thing I will do to it, is to put hipshot locking tuners on it. I also have mishas Jackson and it's really awesome too. I'm not that impressed with Jake's Ibanez model, but the one HE plays sure looks great. Anyway, for me, this MH PRS SE was worth every penny. I bought it brand new with the really nice PRS gig bag that c ame with it for the low low price of $959

Jakes guitar just seems to raise more questions than anything. Like why bother with the Floyd rose if there’s only really one song in all of periphery’s catalog that uses it? At least his new white model seems a lot more reasonable, plus it comes with the pickups he actually uses unlike mishas cheaper sig models.

I love my Schecter Atx C7 because the neck is amazing to play, but the pickups did have to go when I got it. The Duncan Blackouts are not terrible for certain stuff, but you can tell that Dino Cazares had a hand in their design because there is no midrange on them. Pulled em out and swapped them for a Bareknuckle Painkiller bridge pickup and an Abraxas neck pickup and the guitar sounds amazing now.

I have recently purchased one of these, and I'm a convert. I have always played tunamatics in Les Paul style guitars, and have used hotter EMG style pickups - before recently moving to Bare Knuckle. However, since buying this I'm a convert to Seymour Duncan - the omega is fantastic. Super dynamic and loves the gain, but a little less hot and far more controllable. The flat board is great, and the neck is not too thin. The string through hard tail is also amazing. The only thing I have changed out is the tuners for locking ones. I disagree that the neck is for lead players, I am very much a rhythm style player and this suits me very well. Probably the best all around neck I've played at this price point. However, great review! See if you can get the 7 string on there!

I picked up one of these at the shop, mostly to see how the longer scale felt. I was completely blown away - the scale, huge frets and satin neck make it effortless to play. Typically i hate ceramic pickups, but i love these - very responsive to your guitar volume. Just stellar, and i was playing through a mid-gain boutique amp (Friedman Dirty Shirley)

Mark is more of a rhythm player than a lead player, but he just likes that flat radius I guess. It just fits his style and his ability to play those awesome chord shapes he uses. I personally have always loved the feel of compound radius fretboards, something like a 12" to 16" or something along those lines. Jackson does that a lot and I own quite a few Jacksons, and they always play like butter. Not sure how a 20" radius would feel to me because I don't think I've tried one. This guitar has been on my radar for awhile though, I just haven't tried one yet.

Great video as per usual. I tried one of these in the store today. Frets where alright; I’ve felt better fret jobs on some Ibanez premiums. Neck feels very comparable to an Ibanez prestige neck. My biggest gripe is it took only 2 minutes to make it go out of tune. It does not take heavy bends well. Very comfortable to play, but nut and tuners need to be changed.

I'm a dedicated double cut type player. I feel the same about Les Pauls as you do about this one. If you want a very good budget strat type guitar for metal that isn't a signature or doesn't slightly refference the 80's gimmick (Floyd, solid finishes - often very bright colored- and pointy headstocks) than PRS SE and Schecter guitars are pretty much the only way to go these days. Not that that's a bad thing, but neither is having more choice :p

The single coil neck pick up tone was very Rickenbaker jangly. I thought the Duncans were pretty versatile; it wasn't a "dirty" clean that I was expecting. A long scale with a shedder neck makes for a unique tone. I like it, it isn't a copy of everyone elses guitar.

This is a nice guitar. I played one at Sweetwater a while back. But I have to say...... of ALL the overseas production guitars I have owned and played nothing comes close to the Schecter C-1 Classic. I would love to see you do a video on that! It's just about the only overseas made guitar that comes with top of the line everything. Nothing to upgrade out of the box.

tom balmer . no honestly none of the other guitarist in the C1 line come even close to the C1 classic. I've tried the C1 Elite, the C1 Platinum, the C1 Plus, the C1 custom. they all feel cheap and lack in so many ways compared to the C1 classic. the C1 classic is the only one that comes standard with neck through body, locking tuners, and genuine real USA Seymour Duncan pickups.

Yeah, I tend to agree and I'm no Schecter fanboy or anything either. I have one and honestly it's still my nicest playing guitar after all these years of owning it and adding other (albeit still foreign made) guitars to my collection. So I have the Schecter, I've brought in one of the higher end Ibanez Iron Labels, and a high end MIM Strat, and neither of them feel as nice in build quality to the Schecter. All of them are in the same $800-1000 price range, but both of those other two have this sort of feeling of cheapness compared to the Schecter, it's weird. I'm even kind of over the Schecter at this point too, as I've owned it for a while, the looks are starting to seem tacky and dated, and I'm just a tad bored with it, but I still always wind up picking it back up as my main guitar for jamming just cause it feels the nicest to play.

Received mine on sat. Amazing guitar, my only issue is I hate where the selector is for the pickups. Makes it really hard to switch to the neck pickup if I want it for lead work. Minus that it has the best neck i have ever felt and the pickups sound killer. Worth every penny

On mine as well. Hate that I have to reach around the Whammy Bar to change positions. Other than that I love my PRS-SE Fireburst with Floyd Rose.

I just bought this guitar from American musical supply and I will get it tomorrow. I heard that the nut sucks ass, so I am going to have it replaced right away with a better one along with locking tuner's. The only problem with locking tuner's on a PRS is that it is hard to find any that actually fit the guitar so you don't have to drill new holes. I put them on my other SE 24' and I couldn't buy the actual PRS locking tuner's, so I got Grover's and had to drill to make them fit although the holes are almost unnoticeable. This guitar being a non trem. there really isn't a dire need for a locking system, unless you are looking to change string's faster. I am not normaly a metal guitarist but I do play a lot of heavy blues in the black Sabbath style so the S.Dunkin's will really push it over the top. I can't wait to get it, it's like x-mas eve over here waiting for the UPS guy to come. LOL My roomie and I are both guitarist's and we both have G.G.A.S and he is gonna shit when I come in with this guitar and put him back to number 2. I just got a Roland GR55 also and he is now going to have a lot of catching up to do. lol

I have only watched a few other of your videos. (youtube started suggesting them yesterday). Keep doing the single guitar stuff with no backing instruments. Its absence was my only complaint about the others I watched. Thanks for breaking down the amp settings too. Should we know what speaker settings (impulses?) you are using with the Two Notes? Are they always the same.? I am sure it is more convenient than micing a raging 6505 or Rectifier in that little room. And how do you feel about the sound vs. the standard SM57 setup? And thank you for taking your time to make the videos sir!

Hey welcome to the channel! I think I've only mentioned it in comments before but I'm using a custom impulse a previous owner left on here of a Mesa Recto 4x12 cabinet mic'd with an SM57. I feel like that mic/cab setup with either a 6505 or Dual Rectifier is pretty standard for a lot of other users. As far as sound goes, it's pretty similar (mayyybe slightly boxier and with a little more low-end) than my real Recto 2x12 with an SM57.

man i wish i could try that guitar cuz it seems like a very reliable piece of gear, but that 20 inches fretboard radius is scary man!!! just like you i like les paul fretboard radius cause that's what i'm used to, but before buyin' such a thing i'd rather try it out. very helpful video this one to me. and yup you made #AGUNATION proud of you y makin' this video!!

Booger RS for a bit less money you can get a damn good PRS SE standard range or custom range (custom 24, custom 22, single cut, standard 24, etc). The customs retail for about 760, so if you have the money for a Holcomb, you can stick a good set of Seymour Duncan's and maybe a set of locking tuners in there as well. Usually the singlecuts come with a wraparound stop tail that's rock solid if the trem isn't your style (I have both, I'm usually a hard tail guy, but my SE cust 24 trem is rock solid and not cumbersome at all)

that ain't a bad idea at all!!! though I still need to make up my mind if to get a chapman guitar from the pro range cause i really like the way that company grew and I love some of the models from their new line, or a prs. though thanks a lot for the suggestion!!!

+Booger RS I tried it at GC for about 30 mins a week ago. the radius isn't a problem at all. don't even notice it after like 2 minutes.. and I got small hands.. makes chords much easier

Radius isn't the biggest thing in this guitar to adjust at all IMO, it is the bridge, as Agufish mentioned in the video. I own a SE Custom 7-string before I got my Holcomb SE, and the major difficulty while initally adjusting to it was the bridge. Both are hardtail, both seem same kind of build on the outside, but Holcomb has some subtle differences to the feel to accomodate Mark's preferences. At first I had really hard time as Agufish had, because before falling in love with PRS's I was exclusively playing TOM bridges of ESP Explorers. I basically went to deep end and took the guitar after four days of having it to the gig, and now after a dozen rehearsals and four gigs I couldn't be happier.

+agufish question 4 u.. any downside to a complete novice buying this PRS SE Mark Holcomb as a first guitar? I was gonna snag it, a couple pedals and one of those 60 watt Orange combo Amps u reviewed not long ago. Pulling the trigger soon. Any thoughts? I love your channel and hope I'm making the right decision. I am a complete novice

i want to play one of these.. that 20" radius is flatter than an Ibanez Prestige model. That has to be like credit card flat. I just subscribed.. eventho i thought i already did a long time ago. Great video and demo.

@x7stringinJSCx
@x7stringinJSCx 7 жыл бұрын
Kong Yuen May Yea man.. Prestige radius is 430mm which is 16.9" and this is 20" which is 508mm. And any standard RG for example is 400mm which is a 15.75" radius.. so it should be super flat and awesome.
