I just now noticed that the headstock isn’t the traditional PRS headstock on these models. It’s reversed. The more ya know.

Flipping it was a John Mayer "suggestion" (instruction!). Dunno what he does with his fingers in cowboy chords but he said he preferred extra clearance on the bottom instead of the top, more like a strat.

Out of nearly all SE Silver Sky reviews that I already watched this was the best! Very detailed and precisely explained Thank You for the effort!! One thing I love even more because of your measurements is that the nut width is 41.15mm that makes it more comfortable for me. I love a round neck shape and a more rounded radius, that feels super comfortable for my smallish fingers to grab chords. The neck shape would be interesting compared to others because as you say John and Paul created that specifically and just called it 635JM ....

It’s 635 because of the cross between a ‘63 and ‘64 strat, ‘63.5

I tried the usa model out , it is better playing and you can tell the diffrence, but the se is a good guitar for the money im impressed with it, its diffrent ,unique. I didnt like the dragon fruits it looked pink in the light. I think they dicontinied that color, but depends on what you like. Bottom line its a very nice guitar. I love playing it . I returned the dragon fruit and finally found a stone blue , they were getting hard to find now they have more colores, not as hard to find now. Great review . Totally agree with your conclusion. I wont be happy till i can save up and buy the usa version though.its a killer.

I traded a Samick TV Twenty for my Silver Sky SE in moon white. It’s become one of my most frequently played guitars. For $849, I don’t think a person could go wrong with one. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a Strat style guitar under a grand.

I can tell you REALLY enjoyed playing that guitar! I think it complimented your playing as well. I'm definitely thinking about one myself. I've been playing a Sire Larry Carlton S style. But the Blue Sky SE blows it away! And I have a beautiful, rare, non-trem PRS SE custom 22 Korean semi-hollow I'm looking to trade. I'm in love with single coils, which is strange because I've always been a Gibson guy. So, if you want to trade a PRS for a PRS, let me know. You would be getting the better end of that deal for sure!

Yours was the first review of an original Silver Sky I remember seeing. I think it was 2019? It seems PRS is fairly particular about wood quality. I imagine that is showing even on the imports. Nice one, guys. Keep it up!

Not real big on most of the Silver Sky SE colors. But the Piano Black is nice. It took a little over a year to find one in that color as they were sold out pretty much every where. But I did land one finally. It came set up really bad. but that was something I can do fairly easy. But once it was set up nice, I now understand what the hype was all about. I'll save quite a few paragraphs in just saying, this is the best Strat I've ever played. Thy dynamics of how you play, this guitar not just matches, but amplifies that in many ways. This is a blues guitar, not a shredder. Plenty of different tones to be had with this one. Not just in the pickups, but even how you play.

Thanks for the vid J&Z, awesome as usual. I gotta say that I don't believe this beats the Epiphone LP Modern for the price point with the sound and all that comes with the LP Modern. I saw your demo and breakdown of the Epi LP despite the odd problems with yours. I also have a Gibson LP Deluxe and Fender American Elite, and the Epiphone LP Modern is still amazing! I also think an 8.5 radius is far from "modern."

Man, I really really, massively disagree with that statement. I mean no disrespect to you, broski. The Epi LPs that compete with this in price, are not anywhere close to being as thoughtfully engineered and executed as these SE Sky's. I have, over the last year, visited my localish (hour away) Sam Ash and have played just about every one of their 900ish guitars lmao. The only LPs that feel comparable to, and executed as well as, the SE Sky's are the 60s reissue Gibs. And obviously the LP Customs. Now, I am biased at heart, being a lifelong disciple or Leo Fender and his garage inventions lmao. The Sky is my first non Fender guitar in a fender design. I have one non Fender guitar, otherwise, in the John Scofield Ibanez signature. But I have played almost every guitar available on the modern market. The SE Sky competes, quality and tone and playability wise, as guitars coming in at 2500$. The flagship Silver Sky is, somehow, only a little step up in terms of quality. The biggest difference is how luxurious the more expensive Sky feels in the hand. It feels like you're holding a Suhr, in terms of the absolutely beautiful and velvet soft and smooth wood and the way everything feels looks (and even smells lmao). I have never liked Gibson's, if I'm being honest, but I respect them and I understand why people prefer them. I just cannot get into them due to the amount I would be paying in relation to the quality and roll of the dice on it being worthy of the pricetag

I've asked numerous people doing SE silver sky reviews this same question...(never get a reply ??).....what does that resistor do,it's wired onto the volume pot...from lug one to ground.......I seem to be the only person that's noticed it..🤔🤔

I abide by the Straturday rules and only play my strats on Saturday's and I always find myself playing my SE Silversky by far the longest. Its just good at everything, comfortable and sounds great.

get better friends. Kidding... I've had Mex and USA Fenders (couple Japanese also)...noticeable difference in them...and from what I've heard and the MANY reviews...this PRS SE (like other SE models) is exceptional...pickups are the biggest virtue. Many pros say no need to get the USA PRS SS. If they made a lefty...I'd buy one even though I have my share of Strats already. The G&L S500 Tribute with MFDs is also a fantastic guitar...that's VERY affordable.

I've got MIM, US Fenders and a couple of PRS guitars including one of these. It does the vintage strat "thing" but in a way unique to PRS if that makes any sense. But certainly not just the same it's the most unique "traditional" S style guitar you can get.

Your friend obviously doesn't know much about Strats, I reckon. I have MIA, MIJ, MIM Strats which I regularly play. Plus been playing SEs since they came out... I've also compared the SS SE against newer Strats in a music store... You get the picture. My conclusion? This is an excellent instrument, you get a LOT of guitar for your money. Fender would usually shave production costs off its budget guitar line, mainly on its pickups, neck and finishes. BTW I've got a SS SE light yellow one with rosewood fretboard. Really amazed by its quality at this price point.

It maybe my “vintage” ears but P2 & P4 sounded a bit muddy on the clean demo. It might pop better with a maple board. But as always a thorough and enjoyable demo. Thanks John & Zack!

I have Fender 62 avri strat 2001 and I tried US version SS to compare both guitars. I found its neck absolutely uncomfortable for my hands, i think the neck is good for the size of JM”s hands. but SE i love immediately - it is really perfect instrument, especially for the price.

Well I bought one and I don't care much for John Mayer's music (yes he's a good guitarist I'm not denying that), in fact I'd rather his name wasn't on it, but that's just me. :D I bought it because of the subtle "improvements" they had made over the traditional Strat design. The attention to quality control (that some other brands lack). The excellent fretwork and neck. The fantastic pickups and overall quality, playability and look. Oh and it was on special offer in my country roughly 40% discount on a totally new model.

That guitar looks like a Stratocaster from Mars, hahaha! You'd be better off with a PRS Standard SE 24 or a PRS Custom SE 24. And both these guitars look better and sound better, both also have the coil split on both humbuckers. That's not the greatest color also. Sorry my opinion!

If I'm going to drop 3 grand on a strat it'll be a Suhr that at least takes all standard parts, not a PRS cash grab that doesn't even use a standardized pickguard. Much as I respect PRS in general, the Silver Sky is just a cash-in on the strat market. I might feel somewhat different if I actually liked strats, but I've owned seven of them and they just don't make it for me. Can't get along with the sound of single coil strat pickups in overdrive.

I don't like the look of this "stratocaster". It looks like a partscaster built from whatever parts where leftover at the factory. I don't like the flashy plastic neon color on the body which does not match anything else. The color of the headstock does not match any color on the front, it looks unfinished. There is a grey plate covering the truss rod, why grey? Also, one of the reasons we buy a stratocaster is for its fabulous tuning stability because of the way the headstock is with 6 inline tuners, which is not the case here.

The tuners are still straight pull. JM picks the colours. He wants contemporary "Tesla" shades, not traditional sunbursts etc.

The tuning stability on this guitar is excellent, remarkable in fact. Not sure where you see plastic neon colors. I agree that the truss rod cover looks kind of ugly and I also wonder why they used grey. The headstock looks odd on a Strat style guitar but now that I'm used to it I prefer it and having it angled back with a scarfed neck is an improvement over the original Fender design that also does away with the need for a string tree. Personally I prefer the Silver Sky over a Fender but one thing I do prefer with Fender is the wealth of after market parts to improve and repair the stock guitar with.
