800 or 900 dollars is not a price for people who want to start playing guitar. I would buy one because I could afford it compared to the other more expensive version. I also have a Fender American Standard Strat and have playing for more than 20 years.

Pretty weird to me how he talked about playability and setups on a ,,budget" guitar, I have a 200 dollar guitar and while it was pretty badly set up at first just bring it to any guitar repair guy or a luthier and theyll do an amazing setup, fix the fret edges, action, intonation, you don't need a 1000 dollar guitar for that

It's great how JM and PRS are emphasizing the "feel" and intonation of the guitar, which is what really separates the expensive ones from the cheap ones.
@Canteaus
@Canteaus 2 жыл бұрын
@Mark Seymour Nope, some guitars just cannot be set up with proper intonation. If all of yours are, good for you. But the fact is, there are even some expensive guitars that cannot be intonnated by the best techs. Even the same guitar can differ model by model. That's why JM said he had such a hard time in the studio with that song. Do you think he was lacking good gear or techs? Good intonation requires precision across every part of the guitar and design foresight; which is a very expensive thing to replicate on a mass manufacturing scale. (Also, a guitar's scale length can also impact intonation abilities).
@Canteaus
@Canteaus 2 жыл бұрын
@Mark Seymour my "nope" was directed at your comment saying that it was an odd sales approach. Assuming you are an experienced guitar player, you have the benefit of knowing what guitars have good intonation, regardless of price. This, unfortunately, is not something that can be easily felt by beginners. This is why I think this sales approach was so honest and true to what beginners really need. They emphasize that they focused on intonation so that beginners dont need to worry about. Whether an 800 dollar guitar is truly a beginner's guitar is another story... haha
@Canteaus
@Canteaus 2 жыл бұрын
@Mark Seymour Hey Mark, all of the things that you mentioned are variables that could go wrong in a cheaper guitar. I understand your logic about how setting up intonation should "theoretically" not be a difficult thing, but in reality, it can be very hard to achieve. Yes, I understand that precision manufacturing has improved, but building a good guitar with intonation as a priority has to be done from the design-stage, and not just the manufacturing stage. I've played countless guitars that were JUST set up by proper luthiers/guitar techs that still has problems with intonation. It's like a balancing act where if one or more variable just doesn't want to cooperate with the setup because of either cheap materials or lack or precision, it just wont work. Also regarding CNC machines, yes things can be measured precisely, but intonation is about how all of those things work together, and that's not something precision CNC is responsible for, that's the job of the guitar designer.

That "show you how it feels based on hearing it" was amazing starting at 8:50. I was imagining how it felt in my own hand, the curvature of the neck, the fret ends, the neck finish, the radius, action, tone and attack. This guy is just being honest and that's why this ad is so unique. I couldn't agree more with his takes on budget guitars and learning to play. What matters most about cheaper guitars is that they stay in tune, are easy to play, intonate well, and sound good. I had an SE 24 that I recorded with and played live for about 2 years and it was a solid AF instrument and I'm sure they've only improved since then.

I just recently watched his guitar teacher Tomo teaching about back to the simplest beginning, try your best to focus on each single notes, avoid to flood with even any harmonize without meanings. He clearly shows that exactly, plays mostly on such a clear every single notes, only harmonizing when it needs to, he just makes sure that 10 yrs ago lesson never go anywhere! I can’t impress this man more 😭 Thx god that let me know guitar to understand more of this man that never stop inspiring me for a couple of decades yet 👍🏼

John, thanks so much to you and Paul for putting in the effort and time to create what I feel I always wanted out of this TYPE of guitar. I went into my local guitar shop to pick-up my 20 watt Hendrix Head + Hendrix 2 x 12 cabinet and those tricksters at the shop put the Silver Sky SE in my hands to test out my new rig. Pinch harmonics for days... Yeah, I walked out with the Stone Blue version. Went straight home and played it for 4 hours non-stop! Love it!!! Great Job.

Yeah……I can hear how that feels. This is the guitar many of us have been waiting for. This is a great thing that John and Paul and his team have done. So many refinements to a classic and iconic guitar shape and sound. From what I am hearing I don’t think there is much of a difference at all with the pickups from the core model to the SE. I think they sound the same. Beautiful tones in all five positions. My biggest fear is that PRS will not be able to keep up with the demand for this guitar. Shops will get them in and you will get one only if you pay for it early or happen to be there when they pull it out of the box. That may be a major problem and shipping them from Indonesia and being held in a port for months on end will cause these to come out in spurts over the next year and a half. Plus they will still be inspected and set up here in Maryland and I know PRS won’t compromise that. And they shouldn’t. I can’t wait to get one in my hands. Thank you John and Paul for your vision and your artistry. The world is a better place with both of you in it!

I own a lot of guitars, mostly mid level priced. I have a few SE's and they all play perfectly. When the Silver Ski came out, the first thought was - I can't wait for the SE model to be released. I have no need to own a $2000 bolt on neck instrument. I completely trust PRS to make a great neck, because they always do. Their trem system is better than Fender. Now I can get a SSS from PRS. What's not to love? I can feel myself bonding with mine already. I wonder what color it will be!

I was never a big John Mayer fan, (unfamiliarity) but after some KZbin surfing I am so impressed with his playing. I own 3 PRS guitars, one core and two SEs and the fit and finish on the SEs is spectacular. My new Hollow Body II Piezo is easily as good as any guitar I've owned. I imagine this Silver Sky is equally as good as evidenced by this video. And for the price....

What stands out to me is first the fact that it has a lovely dark rosewood fretboard, which you often don't see at this price range. And more importantly that I'm confident I'll love the neck feel. Per the PRS released specs, the neck depth is 0.828 inches at the 1st fret and 0.968 at the 12th. I'm expecting the feel of a vintage 60's C that thickens out as you move toward the upper frets. But with PRS attention to detail and superb fret work. Love it.

Body is poplar and the radius is larger. 7.5 has a really small margin for error in the fret work if you want great playability. My guess is that the 8.5 radius on this SE version is to provide a greater margin to the manufacturer and avoid the time investment required for the fine finishing. That said, 8.5 is still pretty vintage and this looks like a great guitar.

I had the chance to play this guitar in three different colors. Surprisingly, each had its own unique characteristics, but all had excellent necks and responsiveness. In my view, purchasing this guitar and upgrading the pickups far outweighs any $2-3k Fender. It's a brilliant product. Sadly, I haven't tried the US version.

My first guitar is the Fender American Pro II Stratocaster SSS. I bought it a month ago, and I’m just learning to play. What was my logic in dropping that much cash into my first guitar? I figured a large initial investment would be a driving force in my continuing to learn. I do not regret the purchase at all. It holds tune exceptionally well even in a beginner’s hands. John makes this guitar sound good! Ultimately, a beginner’s ability to make any guitar sound good will depend on their willingness to learn how to make it sound good. The guitar in this video might very well be the perfect balance between cost and quality. I know it has a substantial endorsement. 🤣
