It's great how JM and PRS are emphasizing the "feel" and intonation of the guitar, which is what really separates the expensive ones from the cheap ones.
@Canteaus3 жыл бұрын
@Mark Seymour Nope, some guitars just cannot be set up with proper intonation. If all of yours are, good for you. But the fact is, there are even some expensive guitars that cannot be intonnated by the best techs. Even the same guitar can differ model by model. That's why JM said he had such a hard time in the studio with that song. Do you think he was lacking good gear or techs? Good intonation requires precision across every part of the guitar and design foresight; which is a very expensive thing to replicate on a mass manufacturing scale. (Also, a guitar's scale length can also impact intonation abilities).
@Canteaus3 жыл бұрын
@Mark Seymour my "nope" was directed at your comment saying that it was an odd sales approach. Assuming you are an experienced guitar player, you have the benefit of knowing what guitars have good intonation, regardless of price. This, unfortunately, is not something that can be easily felt by beginners. This is why I think this sales approach was so honest and true to what beginners really need. They emphasize that they focused on intonation so that beginners dont need to worry about. Whether an 800 dollar guitar is truly a beginner's guitar is another story... haha
@Canteaus3 жыл бұрын
@Mark Seymour Hey Mark, all of the things that you mentioned are variables that could go wrong in a cheaper guitar. I understand your logic about how setting up intonation should "theoretically" not be a difficult thing, but in reality, it can be very hard to achieve. Yes, I understand that precision manufacturing has improved, but building a good guitar with intonation as a priority has to be done from the design-stage, and not just the manufacturing stage. I've played countless guitars that were JUST set up by proper luthiers/guitar techs that still has problems with intonation. It's like a balancing act where if one or more variable just doesn't want to cooperate with the setup because of either cheap materials or lack or precision, it just wont work. Also regarding CNC machines, yes things can be measured precisely, but intonation is about how all of those things work together, and that's not something precision CNC is responsible for, that's the job of the guitar designer.

Yeah……I can hear how that feels. This is the guitar many of us have been waiting for. This is a great thing that John and Paul and his team have done. So many refinements to a classic and iconic guitar shape and sound. From what I am hearing I don’t think there is much of a difference at all with the pickups from the core model to the SE. I think they sound the same. Beautiful tones in all five positions. My biggest fear is that PRS will not be able to keep up with the demand for this guitar. Shops will get them in and you will get one only if you pay for it early or happen to be there when they pull it out of the box. That may be a major problem and shipping them from Indonesia and being held in a port for months on end will cause these to come out in spurts over the next year and a half. Plus they will still be inspected and set up here in Maryland and I know PRS won’t compromise that. And they shouldn’t. I can’t wait to get one in my hands. Thank you John and Paul for your vision and your artistry. The world is a better place with both of you in it!

Really sucks how much hate he gets. He’s like in my top 5 favorite players. Sure he isn’t a shred god and plays pop style songs but he still isn’t afraid to get soulful and bluesy.

He gets hate because he rabbits on and could do with an editor. 3/4 of the way through this video I wanted to switch it off. And that’s how I feel about the most of his songs. Why when you can already buy the real thing? (US Strat)
@UltimateBreloom3 жыл бұрын
@@Neil-Aspinall Because they're not really that similar? Like it's strat shaped sure, but the pickups are wound different, the headstock is different (makes a different for staying in tune), and the neck carve is like nothing fender is making. Not to mention that the SE is significantly cheaper than a US strat. I think the MIM strats are more it's competition. But at this point the MIM fenders are just about as good as the American ones. But really that's a different conversation. At the end of the day though just about every manufacturer has made a strat style guitar. And the silver sky might just be the best of all of them.

this. It's just like the top carve of the US core models - there's no way cor-tek will do it - looks like the fretboard radius is one of these things too!
@MomjeansTheMage3 жыл бұрын
Body is poplar and the radius is larger. 7.5 has a really small margin for error in the fret work if you want great playability. My guess is that the 8.5 radius on this SE version is to provide a greater margin to the manufacturer and avoid the time investment required for the fine finishing. That said, 8.5 is still pretty vintage and this looks like a great guitar.
