Ah...the bandaid question has been answered lol I want to thank you for the positive vibes you and Aaron share in your videos. After my husband passed away I didn't want to have any living thing around me other than my family. No pets, no plants of any kind. Because I I couldn't handle another death. You are encouraging me to grow things again and they're not only surviving but thriving, for the most part lol. So thank you again. 💚🌿🌱♥️🌻👏🤗

Monika: I can relate to your situation and reaction. Slowly, I am getting back into gardening. My faith helped me wake up and I began seeing the world in color instead of just black and white. I must say, though, seeing the natural world through the eyes of my young grandchildren was the added bonus! Of course, Laura's great, positive video's and her precious family is like icing on the cake!

Sorry for your loss, gardening may help remind you that you are still here, it’s important to continue giving love and feeling love, gardening and plants can do that. While on earth, love and receive...and think of yourself as the caretaker of God’s gifts, plants and pets are included. You can use gardening time to remember your husband, plant his favorite vegetables, or plants, and remember him when you care and enjoy them. God bless you through your loss, it is not easy.

That explains the plaster/bandaid in the weekly recap video - I can't plant tomatoes, our greyhound steals the ripe ones off the plant, runs around with them in the backyard, spreading the seeds all over, then eats them lol so we have tomatoes popping up in our lawn for months!

I have 12 indeterminate tomatoes and have been pruning once a week on average since they were planted 5/31 (bought from Lowe's since I didn't have everything I needed to seed indoors this year). I got a little too brave pruning my tomatoes, and accidentally cut the branches and left the suckers 😂 ..guess who felt like a sucker then 🤦🏼‍♀️ I even looked up how to prune first, but I have chronic fatigue which comes with cognitive issues so it was just one of those moments. I finished up all proud of myself and then looked at them and went "....oh no.." 😳 Thankfully I hadn't gone too far up so I cut the suckers off too and hoped for the best! I now have happy tomato plants with plenty of fruit, they are just very airy on the bottom half 😆

I'm so glad you provided a video on this subject of how to prune/ "pinch out suckers" on tomatoes!! I never knew that this needed to be done. I usually plant just two tomato plants each year, in big pots, on my deck. And it wasn't until my father-in-law asked me if I "pinch" the branches/suckers. And I said "no I don't, I didn't know you were supposed to be doing that". Well, now I see first-hand how to do it. Thanks so much for sharing this information. By the way, all the branches that you cut off, can you put that tomato foliage in the compost bin? A lot of good green material there, shame to let it go to waste!

It’s so satisfying pruning tomatoes. There are so many methods of pruning and trellising out there. Just a tip, use something acidic like vinegar or lemon juice to clean off the tomato tar on your hands. Learned that from Jess at Roots and Refuge Farm and it’s a game changer! I keep a spray bottle of a vinegar and water solution by my kitchen sink all summer.

I planted cherry tomatoes seeds from store bought tomatoes and was blessed with tones of tomatoes. I'm still giving them away. Recently the plants have succumbed to spider mites so I took a chance and cut all the leaves off and some branches but then we got up to 112 and lost them. I don't feel bad because I got more than I expected. Thanks Laura, I loved your story too.

Laura, thank you so much for explaining about "hunkering down". I have no fruit set yet. We are in zone 3 and some years we are lucky to get above 80 degrees all summer long. Not so much this year as we have had a span of 85-95 degree temps with no rain for two weeks. I guess that definitely fits the hunkering down category and would explain the lull in production. You are the bomb-diggity :^)

I can sure relate to pruning clipper accidents! I've cut my finger before pruning down a bunch of Iris because I was in a hurry and wasn't watching closely enough. It does happen! Just recently I was trimming the dead out of my Butterfly bush/tree overhead and dropped my clippers on the top of my foot and cut a couple of tendons to my toes! Thankfully the doctor said that they will heal but it will take a long time and I have to wear a boot to inhibit mobility. I was so mad at myself for not wearing proper foot protection! It was hot out and I was wearing sandals. It won't stop me from gardening though, I'll just be much more careful in future. Lesson learned! Stay safe and I'm praying for you and your lovely, growing family! Congratulations!

Thank you, I didn't know. I prune my tomatoes like you said. They look so much better. We also are having 85-90 degree weather. Thanks now I know why my tomatoes are not turning red right now.

I need to trim my tomatoes. I moved my chicken run and apparently they planted tomatoes for me. I shared so many plants and still have a bunch, Lol. Thank you for showing me what to do and please be careful with those pruners! 😊

I get such joy from your videos. You’ve empowered me and my garden looks fabulous. You also make me laugh - two hours to prune all those tomato plants? I’d have to block out two days. And you look so amazing when done. Please share - do you go inside and shower before capping off your videos?

Laura, thank so much for sharing your garden with us. I use to garden but my health has gotten to the point that I can’t anymore. I so look forward to your videos. As you were pruning your tomatoes and found a tomato I was so happy for you. I know that feeling when you find fruit you didn’t know you had. I love watching your garden and family expand.

Watched this video and literally went right outside and pruned back my bazillion bushes of tomatoes. Can't believe how much better they look and so happy that it's easier to scoop up the produce. Thanks for the inspiration!

Tomatoes look awesome! You did great pruning and quickly. I prune also and it does make a difference. Thank you for all of the learned experiences. My first year to use The plant tone and garden tone. Great results and so healthy. I have learned lessons with too much nitrogen. Thank YOU for your learned and experienced advice. So valuable to us!!!

So this isn't in reference to this particular video - but a much needed video request. I'm very much a beginner and would love to learn more about bulbs. When do you plant? When do they bloom? Which ones can stay in the ground and which ones have to be dig up? How do they multiple (or do they?)? HELP!!! I love all your videos and am learning so much - THANK YOU!

Very helpful. A tip to ensure 95% fruit set is to keep a a charged electric toothrush handy. Around 3pm go around the tomato plants and gently buzz each open flower-bearing stem, just above the flower so that the flower vibrates and drops its pollen. This creates a tomato from the flower 95% of the time. You can actually see the pollen falling. It looks like fine yellow dust. It has to be a dry flower or it does not work. So don't use this technique when it's raining. Also the flower must be open at the time so don't bother with any flowers that are still closed. It becomes an easy technique with practise and ensures you are not disappointed by lack of fruit. I only grow cherry tomatoes so that there is plenty of harvesting and the tomatoes do not take too long to grow to full size and ripen.
