FINALLY someone who actually knows what they are talking about! This fixed my problem. My PS3 would randomly shut off and the red power light would go out as well. Unplugging and plugging back in the cord would fix the problem temporarily but it would shut off again after a few minutes. I followed this video and my PS3 is working without issue now. Also, be sure to have air duster handy so you can do a little clean-up too. Thanks!

Definitely gonna try this. I got an overheat warning on my PS3 yesterday so I took it apart and repasted it. Put it all back together and it gave me the YLOD, then it died completely. So I gotta reflow the CPU and RSX and then do this and it should be good to go. I'm sad because this was my jailbroken rebug PS3

Hi Steve, my PS3 slim was cutting out after around 10-20 mins use, leaving no lights on and unable to start. Only way to get it back on was to unplug the power supply leave it a while then back on but same again. Anyway took it to Techbytes in Glasgow where they "had it on for days" and could find nothing wrong with it. Got it home and same again...followed your video to the letter about 3 hours ago and my PS3 has been running sweet as a nut ever since Thanks you very much mate Steve

Cheers, fixed my PS3 Slim. For others, my symptoms were the console would shut down after a few seconds. But if the HDD was removed it would stay on. So figured the power supply might be on the limit. Sure enough adjusting the two pots bought it back to life (until I can order a replacement).

I don't know if it was the potentiometer trick or the fact that i seen a comment somewhere that told me to start it with the fan unplugged, but I did both at the same time, I adjusted the potentiometers counter clockwise a hair, and I left the fan unplugged before starting it up. It started normally, so I proceeded to plug the fan back in and sure enough it still started normally. I'm just glad I was able to fix my baby. It's old and some components are even rusty, but she's a 250 gig that's still kicking. I do believe it had to do with the potentiometers but that is my opinion. I would have been sad if I would have had to get a new PSU or something. I just bought The Last of Us on PSN. Anyways, great video I'll give credit to you.

Potentiometers vary current, for example a volume control is a potentiometer. These trim pots vary the micro current within the PSU. i imagine they cannot be adjusted outside the tolerances of the components. People have been doing this for several years and I've yet to hear of anyone saying it damaged their console. Naturally you work on your console at your own risk. Good luck

Hi These little potentiometers (Trim-Pots) vary the current to other components. By turning them from their original position (indicated by a marker line) you change the mirco current. It's not very scientific (as electronic "experts" keep telling me but if it gets the console running again why not give it a go. The alternative is to replace the power supply or get professional help which cost big money. Hope this helps

Hi James Sony likes to keep us on our toes by constantly changing parts. Unfortunately the newer PSUs don't have the adjustable potentiometers. If the power supply is the problem you will have to replace it. I think it's an EADP 220 you need but check by looking on the bottom of your unit.

Thank you for the quick response. I do know what potentiometers are, just were wondering their job on this particular setting. I adjusted them a little bit, and running on test now. I wouldnt be quick to trust on whether or not they can be adjusted outside the component tolerances, especially when theyre in a closed space. But I guess, if people have been doing this for a long time now, it should be ok. I just pulled mine out of the closet, been sitting there for a long time.

On a off subject to your video, I'd like to ask your opinion on heating issues the power supply gradually happens over a course of time to now it is hotter than usual as in the fan runs faster. Note that I had already replace the IHS paste as well to the GPU/CPU as well. I know that too much heat to the board may cause some unexpected failures, is this one of the moments to replace it instead of fixing? Great demo to this video as you explained the risks before doing this procedure as some videos don't about static discharge and safety for you or the components inside.

Yeah sometimes it's difficult to figure out what is wrong. Just use trial and error by removing parts, hard drive, blu ray and swapping the psu. Also try changing the on off data ribbon. Worst case it could be a motherboard problem

It could be a power supply problem but equally it could be anything. You'll need to use trial and error to figure out what the problem is. Try another PSU if that doesn't fix it then strip the console down and see if it runs without the blu ray drive or hard drive. Swap the on off switch data ribbon. Of course it could be a motherboard problem, it's impossible to tell without testing.

@PS3PARTSANDREPAIR11 жыл бұрын
I've seen people try over and over again with different settings until they get it right, Other people say it's risky because they feel it may over load some components on the motherboard. Personally I don't think Sony would install trim Pots that would work outside the tolerances of the components. I'm a risk taker but if you are not then I would advise replacing the PSU,
@PS3PARTSANDREPAIR11 жыл бұрын
The 3003 doesn't have the same power supply and I doubt it has the adjustable trim pots. Worst case you will have to replace the complete PSU but they are not to expensive, certainly cheaper than sending to sony.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. My slim didn't have any issues until it was just dead 1 day, got a used replacement and moved on for 2+ years before seeking to buy a replacement PSU and then finding this video. Would have loved this to work, but nope. My internals look different, not 100% sure where the fuse is in mine. I tried the potentiometers in several different positions. Took a picture first so I could go back, but 1 was rather close to the full way out or counter clockwise. I found another video where a guy tests the voltage coming out of the PSU so I'll do that soon before just pulling the trigger and buying one.

the trimpot have three pins, are united in the same pins on both trimpot 250?, because the 270 are attached differently. I believe that this difference depends on the change in rotation 270.
