Mounting guide video for my custom circuit board enabling USB-C in the PS4 controller. This version is for the JDS30, JDS40, JDS50 and JDS55 controller. The board in the video is made for JDS50/55. If you have a JDS30 or JDS40 controller, the only difference is that the inside is mirrored.

Small tip for anyone who has issues which you've pointed out with the ribbon. If the gold tabs are starting to come off the ribbon you can cut the ribbon back a little bit with scissors, keeping the stiff part of the ribbon of course. I've had to do it on 2 of my controllers because I can't help but keep taking them apart.

For years I've been sick and tired of my Dualshock 4's micro USB port being so damn loose. I've tried replacing the port multiple times, I've tried replacing the controller outright, I've even bought a 3D printed little attachment that's supposed to keep it in place, and it always failed eventually. I was thinking of getting a Dualsense and take my chances with potential drifting, but at long last, I have the permanent solution for the controller I already have. Thank you so much.

Yeah. This is the best method i came to use over time. When i get a bit more time i will make a special device to drill it out, or carve it out.

Did you manage the conversion? I have a scuf infinity (with extremerate Clicky Kit without L2, R2) that I would like to rebuild. will the joysticks also be available for purchase in the foreseeable future? Good that they have already developed this. I would still be interested in the latency of the new sticks compared to the original ones.

@ludgerk.1683 Yep! Ive converted both my scuf infinity 4ps and my scuf impact to usb-c. These boards by Marius are incredibly well designed and extremely high quality. Better than sonys boards by far. Just make sure you choose the correct board to match the controller main board. And follow the instructions carefully!

@@phlooke I dont think the xbox controllers has a separate usb circuit board as the ps4 controller? So its most likely not possible to make a custom solution like this

Thanks for this tutorial! I haven't even had my controller for a year, but I can tell the micro-USB port is already showing signs of wear since it can intermittently cut out. Fortunately I have one of the JDS-05x boards so you can bet I'll be ordering one.

If you make a JDS-011 board, I will probably order yours for my next two controller upgrades. All three of my PS4 controllers have JDS-011 boards. I used a USB-C board from a different designer/seller which works, but they didn't get the hole placement correct on their PCB and I had to snip and file down the two plastic pins that would have gone through the lower holes. You have great attention to detail and your boards look gorgeous. Hope to see the JDS-011s on your site someday!

I just had my PS4 controller fail last night, and I was trying to figure out if I could swap it out for a USB-C port instead, because I have always loathed the stupid micro USB ports!, they are garbage!. I was going to get a PCB made and solder and build one myself, but then I found this in my searches, PRAYERS ANSWERED!. This saves me a lot of work, it's a no brainer!. Can't wait to order and get playing again!. I may be 44 but I love my games! and I just bought God of war Ragnarok and it's on the way in the mail, and I won't be able to play it until I get this inferior controller port fixed!. I really need to do this upgrade as soon as I can because the charging port on my Controller broke. I see that the JDS-050 is in-stock though, but will it work on my Controller? Yeah. I tried modelling it, and its really hard to get it accurate. Its probably easier to print both top shells at once.

@@MariusHeier1 I guess that works too. Your connector gave me a huge scare when after completing the mod, I plugged it in, there was no light and my NVMe drive interface with the OS kernel failed.

@@MariusHeier1 Yea, I changed a cable and it was fine. The cable was one meant for a external SATA USB3 drive, I am guessing some kind of chipset limitation or just some random AMD issue.

@@MariusHeier1 One issue I found out while doing is that your board has 2 "wings" while some boards like mine JDS-040 has it only on one side, as a result on the controller shell itself, the parameter around where you are filling to make space for the USB-C connector, one side is higher than another. So you need to file it down too.

Damn, the controller that was included w. my fat ps4 is a 011💩 I've at least got a 030 that I apply this mod to. Is it in your plans to include the 011 at a later date as well? Edit: I'm sitting and looking at your tindie page and I just wanted to double check so I haven't missunderstood anything. Am I correct in having interpreted the description as in that the jds-5x gold look board will work with the 030?

@@MariusHeier1 I just received the jds-5x board and I've encountered an issue. I followed your guide and prepared the shell, inserted and plugged in the new board as shown in the video but it wont connect, light up or charge. I tried using the old board to determine which part is acting up and the controller connects fine through that one. I've noticed two things that accompanied this behavior, - It gets hot to the touch, - pin 5 and 6 from the right to the left looks to be bridged. Would using a scalpel or something else with a tiny edge to sever the tin in between the two pins help or is it fried? Edit: It also disconnects the controller whenever I plug in the usb c board to a power source whereas the original board works fine.

So I completed the installation of the 011. Looks great. Plug it in, the controller lights up! Only thing is when I took the controller apart weeks ago to see what board version I had after putting it back it it doesn't hold charge. I hoped swapping for usb c would fix it but I've got the same issue. Don't know whether to keep digging and throwing more money at it or to just buy another controller and maybe different board version if i have to. It worth changing the battery? Annoying... It works plugged in but the ps4 button doesn't respond even then. Think that might be the issue.

Probably the battery. Or charge circuit..put finger on components on circuit board and check if any are hot.

Just put the controller back together think that might be it for tonight 🥲 thanks its a really great product especially for the price. If I have to get another controller and another board I won't think twice.

Either open and look inside. Or if your controller has a sticker on the back. Check the number under where it says made in china. Post it here and i can check what jds belongs to that number.
