I remember the last time I put a 2 terabyte hard drive in my PS4 it accepted exFAT for the format. I've been trying to put a Samsung Evo 870 4 terabyte into and every time I boot it into safe mode to reinstall system software it says update file corrupted while I have the USB Drive-In. I will definitely take your advice and try FAT32 next

hey i have a question i don't know if you do know if its possible, but if you install the new ssd inside the ps4 can you install a jailbreakable firmware then jailbreak the ps4.

I needed a project so i bought a ps4 from a electronics pawn shop. I tore it down to the motherboard. Made sure the thermal pads were in place. Cleaned the crusty motherboard cpu thermal paste off. Installed new thermal paste. I cleaned the years of dust out of this thing. The fan and vents were caked up with it. I took the cd rom out tore it down and cleaned and lubed everything. I tried installing a 1tb ssd SanDisk and got to where i needed the usb drive. I got a 64g usb drive and at that point didnt know where to go from there. I installed the old hd just so i can run the ps4 to test its function. Runs like new. But this video on how to format the usb and what to download was very informative. Thanks for the video.

I’m planning on doing this as well. I got a PS4 Slim from a pawnshop. It was in pretty good condition not too dusty. I will tear down to replace the thermal paste and thermal pads. I just put in 2TB SSD in it.

Hi there very heplful video, i had a question. Not sure if you ever throw any replies back. But its worth a shot 😊. So i am going to install a 1tb ssd into my ps4 for an upgrade. It has a 1tb hdd but i have had issjes with it since i first bought it brand new less then 2 years ago. It would not turn on after putting it into rest mode even being brand new. But i would just never put it in rest mode. But it started recently not letting wifi connecrions pop up at all and get stuck on swarching for connections page. And it said corrupted data randomly the other day. But i dont have acces to regular wifi or a computer so i bought a usb drive with the most recent system software or firmware available for reinstalling or intializing. I am also buying another usb drive for backing up my save data. Sorry for long comment. Will i be ok to install ssd and intialize it and put my saved data onto new ssd? That is of course as long as the usb with the preinstalled system software and update works like it is supposed to. I can do eveeything without beeding a computer right? Any info would help so much thank you

Okay so mine died. Just got the new hard drive. Bought a Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD . I thought you had to format the hard drive itself first then format the USB then download the software onto the USB then over to the PS4. Sorry but I'm not very computer savvy so I'm just trying to figure this all out. Would love it if there's a way to Salvage any of my gameplay information off my old hard drive.

I was looking into switching out my hdd for an ssd on my Fat Ps3 and Ps4, but I did some research. I asked what are the pros and cons of an ssd. Pros faster loading times. Cons ssd can only take so much deleting and rewriting. It may take 5 years, maybe even 10 years, but longevity goes to the hdd. Anything newer is Not built to last. I'm going to stick with the hdd. I'll wait 30 seconds longer for game to upload and my hdd last longer than an ssd. Any thoughts? Any testing done to see how long ssd last?

Hello! You did your research! For an OS, SSD is very good to speed everything up. If you are going to be installing games frequently, that would put a lot of wear on the SSD, in which you should stick to HDD. Maybe, for example, on the PS3, you have a set library and will only be playing games, not installing them, then the drive is only reading and writing very little. SSD would be good in this case, otherwise, just stick to HDD

This is old but you can format the hdd to exfat. Exfat is actually recommended.

Yeah I have one issue I follow your instructions exactly and my new hard drive won't go into safe mode with my PlayStation 4 I don't have that problem with my old hard drive but my new hard drive refuses to go into safe mode and then my PlayStation says unable to access system storage.. everything I read about that issue simply means that the new hard drive is probably faulty. what do you think?

It shouldn't matter if the drive is defective to get to safe mode. Hold the power button down until you hear the second beep, then immediately let go of the power button and it should go to safe mode

Yep. Just pull out the hard drive of the old 1 and put it into the new 1. U won't need to download or do anything else as it already has the ps software system in it n so yea. Nice n simple.

is the systemsoftware on the console itself or the hdd? i tried swapping the hdd from an old day1 ps4(glossy piano black) to a slightly younger model. but the younger ps4 said i have to update the swapped hdd to 9.04. i dont want to do that because i dont even know the OS version of the old one. could be useful for modding. does this mean i have to fix the piano ps4 just to get access to the data on the hdd? old ps4 has a broken hdmi port but the warranty seal is intact and i kinda dont want to remove it, those ps4's get rare nowadays. but what you gonna do right? a hdmi port cant be fixed without opening the console. and the younger one has click of death, is it the laser moving up and down or does the clicking come from the hdd?

My roommate's PS4 stopped. I reinitialized and put in the upload. Now it streams and plays Blu Rays, but games got stuck in download mode. So I'm guessing the hard drive cried uncle. Exhausting possibilities because can't really afford a new machine yet.
