How to install PS4 System Software on new hard drive:
This procedure is for initializing your PS4™ system and performing a new installation of the system software, such as for when you replace the hard disk drive.
All data on the new hard drive will be deleted.
The following things are needed to perform the update:
PS4 system
USB stick with 1.2 GB of free space
On the USB storage device, create folders for the update file.
Create a folder named "PS4" and Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1.

Turn off the PS4 console
Connect the USB stick to your PS4 console
The unit will start in 'Safe Mode'
Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)
Follow the steps on screen

I dropped my slim while it was in the original packaging as I came home from a late night at a friends house, and I didn’t set it back up until I woke up. When I did it wouldn’t load and I saw this vid and was WORRIED. I took the hard drive out like you showed and it was pretty dirty so I cleaned everything up really gently and connected the hard drive again and thank the lord everything was cool after that! My ps4 that I got back in july had this issue. I only played it like 9 times. I tried this way, but it didnt work. Nothing worked. I had to send it into sony for a repair and instead of sending me my ps4 fixed, they sent me a pre owned ps4 in worse condition than mine. I got it yeaterday, not even 2 hours into using it, it got this issue already. I didnt want to try this again, but i gave it 1 more shot thanks to my friend encouraging me and it fixed it. so i have a question...i did an HDD upgrade and saved my old 500GB HD for a later backup operation as I did not have a backup external drive at the time...I bought one and put my old drive back into the machine to do the backup but it won't start without a software update as it has an older software version on it. I tried to do a software update only but it wants a full re-install update which i fear will wipe all the data on the original HD...is there a way to get the data backed up on the original HD?

Yo got a question. I got the same error code. When I try to go to save mode, holding down the power button until I hear two beeps my ps4 turns off. But when I turn it on again it check storage and stays stuck at 24% and then takes me to safe mode and tells me to connect my controller. When I do it tells me to connect my usb with the update file. You will need a motherboard replacement.

@@fasttechvideo If you replace a motherboard then you need to replace the optic drive also, so technically is a new game console. PS 4 mainboard is paired with the optic drive, you cannot change one without the other.

I got a 1tb refurbished ps4 slim from gamestop. I thought they did maintenance on it but I have this problem. Should I try taking out the hard drive and put it back in?
