It doesn’t make any sense to release an exploit for a console that is actively being sold and updated. It’s better to wait until either the console has been discontinued (and therefore no further updates from Sony) or for the exploit to be patched. Releasing it sooner just means Sony will patch it. The idea is to release these exploits at the end of the console’s lifecycle so that everyone has a chance to benefit from it.

I’m glad I have a ps5 on 7.61 only because the hdmi port broke on that firmware and I got a spiderman 2 ps5 and got it fixed eventually so have a spiderman 2 ps5 which is main and another on 8.00 and 8.20 and one in box

Slim would need a webkit exploit. You can't use the BD drive without updating.

From my research release day slims are basically in the same boat as digital only consoles. From what I'm able to gather this is due to a few possible reasons but the top two are the slim disk and digital are the same factory base set and then the drive is just hooked on at the factory without ever syncing it. This plays into my second theory of this is due to the Blu-ray licencing being per user vs per console saving the company money. The biggest issue with this of course is game preservation since you can't boot a disk without Internet

It will depend on multiple things. How will it be executed? Are there games you can't play on lower firmware? Are there functions you're missing out on by not updating? It all depends.

I think the 7.60 update was was start of 2023... an inadvertent fix of exploits is possible or maybe they knew about it earlier than we did.
