I didn't fully realize how crap modern Sony is until i bought an old ps2 a couple months ago. No ads, no creating an account, no having to re-sign in because of an update, no annoying pop up messages, no patches, no system repair because of a power outage. It just turns on and immediately starts the game in the disk tray.

I love how people who don't really know anything about torrenting use an anti-torrent stance for defense of the PSN requirement. Virtually all multiplayer games you torrent can't connect to multiplayer servers because the servers themselves can tell a game has been torrented. I know of a couple of games that have work-arounds that let them connect to Steam servers though Remnent 2 is the only one coming to mind right now.

HZD Remastered fails to close properly with PSN linked account and Sony's SDK is constantly running in background. If you try to launch it again it will say that game is still runing. What is worse that game freezes and crashes when you alt tab even for a short period of time. With showlinkingqr launch option game closes like it should and you can alt tab whitout fear of game crashing

I did the same thing during the PS4 generation. They pulled most of this crap back then which made me quit the ecosystem after being a loyal customer since the PS1 generation. And with emulators I can play 99% of all the PlayStation games I love anyway all on one device.

It isn't only about artificial growth, just like most gaming companies SIE also loves to sell your information and of course by connecting to a account it also very easy to ban somebody for whatever is their subjective opinion of the week. Which for example can and will be abused against reviewers or somebody who said something that is considered to be offensive/harassment. Being a certified Sony pony I excused the requirement for Helldivers. Unified database, easier to add people, harder to make an alt if banned etc etc. Then they shoved it into an entirely SP game. Link it for whatever reason if you have it - sure, it's a Sony game I guess. But require a PSN acct? lol. later backtracked on the HD2 requirement too. I defended it with the fact that Minecraft requires an Xbox acct on PS to play...except I learned later that it doesn't, I can still play with my PSN buddies on local servers. And there's that teeny tiny factor of PSN not being available in like half the fucking world????? Xbox isn't everywhere either, but they have an "other" option for the region. Far as I know it just locks you out of the store, but keeps your account perfectly online-capable. AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE BLOODY THING WHEN XBOX DOES COME TO YOUR REGION. Can't on PSN. I love my PS5, but I'll probably love my Xbox on the next-gen more. Sony has been insanely slimy this gen.

I hate having multiple accounts even on console. I can no longer play any battlefield game because my EA account that I've had since the beginning of the Xbox 360 era was randomly locked one day, and I cannot get any feedback or help to get it up and running again. And I'm not starting all over with another account, which I can't do anyway without setting up another email account. And apparently this is a common thing with ea accounts and they either never help anybody reinstate their accounts or its an insane hassle to get it done. So, I'm just not able to play any ea game online anymore because of a fuck up on their side they refuse to fix. But remember, it's not a problem to need a PS account because it's free and Sony isn't known for being a hassle to deal with when it comes to customer service. Right?.. 😂
