It’s not just the 700 dollar price point, it’s that combined with removing the disc drive and charging 80 dollars for that separately, it’s removing the verticals stand that came with the original PS5 and charging 30 dollars for that separately, it’s coming with the original PS5 controller, with no special upgrade. So those extra things combine with the 700 base price point is ridiculous. Obviously there is a majority that could budget for this console, but why? So I can stand an inch away from my TV and notice that the leaves on a tree in a game in the background are 15 percent more detailed? Just silly.

Now they're like 900 off their original cost. Ppl into music and stereos have been dealing with this forever. The most expensive speakers are over 30k a set.... Kinda Funny folk are telling me its cool that Sony charges 700 + taxes for an incomplete console with minimal enhancement that isn't even promoted properly in Sony's own reveal. They just brush it off as yeah, (Sony) knows it won't sell for everyone but that's cool. It just shows how different game industry people have become from the normal consumer.

In EU with 799€ its a price increase of 350€ from the PS5 Slim Digital (including Taxes) So from PS4 to PS4Pro it was a 100€ price increase. When i got the information right the Disc Drive upgrade plus Stand that is not included in the ps5Pro package will cost an additional 120€ if i want to use my discs on the pro. That makes it a 920€ console. They are out of there minds. Absolutely crazy.

The problem with that is that this is not the best experience you can buy. A 4090 has a limitless price cieling because there's literally nothing on the market that will give you that experience. Long time KF fan, first-time commenter. I feel like I have to add some counter-balance to all the negativity. I'm on team Tim's side on this subject. Is it overly expensive? Yes. Will I still be purchasing it? Absolutely. I'm not ready to invest $2500 on a gaming pc, but I can swing $700 for an improved PS console, plug and play, gaming experience. I agree with Tim that Sony is absolutely targeting the tech enthusiast market. This was not shocking price point news for me, personally.. Flag ship cell phones are hitting $1600. Decent PC GPUs alone are going for $700-$1500 and MUCH higher. Tech prices are objectivity increasing across many industries. The PS 5 Pro sold me on GT7 and Hogwarts Legacy support alone. I empathize with everyone who doesn't understand or agree with Sony's price point or marketing strategy. Many commenter's points are extremely valid, but this thing was designed for me, and I can't wait to see what the PS 5 Pro is capable of. Love you guys!! Keep being the best in the business!!

@@basedplantsif all you care about is graphics then yeah kinda. But I think the point is that the cost of the pro doesn’t match up with its actual value. For example you can buy a switch two for 400(probably), and buy a used PS5 for 300. Which means you can play every game the pro can play (with worse performance), and a switch 2 on top of that. 700 bucks is just too much for a couple extra frames and better resolution. That’s just my opinion though.

The biggest issue for me is the fact almost all the games they showed were PS4 games. TLOU 2, Ghost, Horizon Forbidden West, GT7 etc. and the fact they didn't end it with an announcement of like a Showcase or State of Play, like what the fuck. If they had been like "that's PS5 Pro. To get a peek at the future of what's to come and take full use of the console, stay tuned for our Showcase", that would at least be like "ok they're at least showing stuff" but they didn't. The PS5 finally got its first incredible exclusive with Astro Bot and now we're back to what's next. Games shouldn't take 5+ years to make, Team Asobi made Astro in 2-3. PlayStation Studios devs could learn from Team Asobi, have your big thing stew in the back but let your teams make smaller teams within them to make smaller more experimental games. Or maybe do what Konami did, lend out older IP for other devs to work on, make SANER investments and not the $100+ million.

Just remember this before you complain. Also for the record I’m not buying this. 60% of gamers play games 6 years or older. With that you can infer that even less have upgraded their consoles let alone televisions to accommodate these new upgrades. You aren’t the market for it if you fall into any of these 2 categories. It’s very ok to be broke in 2024. Not everyone needs everything. It’s not 10 years ago anymore. Edit: I think it’s also ridiculous to be shocked shocked by that pricing when we are paying upwards of $1200 bucks for a glorified web browser for our pockets. Does Tim not realize that HDR on PS4 was not an exclusive feature to PS4 Pro? I have heard him say this a few times in the past and he repeated it again today. I never had a PS4 Pro and only had a base PS4 and got the update to my PS4 to play games in HDR. Same exact HDR as on PS4 Pro. Minor issue, but if the off chance the KF crew can see this wanted to make sure they knew that it was not an exclusive feature to PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro offered the resolution and occasional frame rate increases but HDR was something that came to all PS4 consoles by like 2016 or 2017.

For me it's not just $700 price point that holds me back from getting this. It's more of the fact that both Playstation and Xbox kept touting that this would be the generation where 4K 60FPS was going to be the standard. Yet that isn't the case at all. I just do not see the Pro being the solution. Devs aren't going to be hitting those marks on console. Maybe next generation?

We barely got any games aimed at it and now we have a system that will run future games like crap as Devs use the pro as a crutch to sell the visuals/fidelity of their games. I agree with Tim on the ease of use thing. for someone who is not super tech literate and doesnt want to mess with their computer or deal with whatever, consoles just work when you plug them in. there are simple accessible menus for audio and visual controls and no messing with weird menus or downloading random things from the internet to get sound or whatever to work. Consoles might not technically be the top of graphics or visuals, but I dont care, the ease of use trumps all
