I was so confused when I move my Resident Evil 8 to my external storage after the game was moved I immediately put the disc inside and before I started playing it said “copy” Now I understand how it works thanks to this video

It's better to move the games rather than copying because you're creating two copies of the same game (and DLC). One in the internal HDD and the other one in the external HDD which will just eat up your storage even faster. Copying and moving takes about the same amount of time so moving will always be better than copying. I guess the downside is not being able to do anything on the PS5 until the data is done moving. If you copy the game back to the internal PS5 storage, you will have to re-download all DLC again and it's almost as if the game is being downloaded again to your console rather than just copying the data. Sony sure loves making everything complicated with the PS5.

That's exactly what I was just about to ask. I've got my PS5 on the way and with my PS4, I had a 4 TB drive that I can put all of my saved data on to free up the actual internal hard drive. This is still a cheaper option than a new internal SSD. At least for the time being.

If I click on “copy” on the game when it’s on the external drive it’s downloading instead of copying so I do it also this way now like you show in the video. But why doesn’t it work when I just click on copy on the game itself ?

I think you need to turn off your internet connection while copying/installing, because it happened to me as well

No u have to sit through it but it takes about ten mins on a 50 gig game. U can't play other games or go off the screen while it's copying to or from

Not being able to play PS5 games on an external hard drive is laughable and stupid from Sony, you can only store them! I'll pay whatever money it will take to make a PS5-compatible super performance external hard drive, I'm desperate for one. Even if it's 500 dollars, I'll pay for that shit to fix this issue.
