I bought an almost 3k card on eBay raw listed as near mint or better. Went through eBay’s authenticity guarantee process just fine. I immediately send it to PSA and they deemed it altered. It’s really ridiculous. I’m working with eBay now to get my money back but now you can’t even trust eBay’s guarantee process to protect you from altered cards.

eBay is partnered with PSA for raw card authenticity, ie, is the card real. That works great with watches, shoes, purses etc. The program doesn’t cover if the card is altered.

they only authenticate it, altered has nothing to do with authentication.

@@fullhouse7727 they check to make sure the card is as described as well. The card was described as in near mint or better condition. I think we can both agree an alteration doesn’t fall under near mint or better condition. If they just authenticate cards, an authentic card could have a dinged corner that wasn’t disclosed and go through. They check condition as well

PSA was founded to grade 2 trimmed honus wagner cards. They do not have a legal leg to stand on while the certs remain active. If they tried to take action, the first question any lawyer would be asking is why its ok for them to grade some altered cards but not others.

Glad PSA is tightening the screws, so to speak. I think a big enforcement issue will be the plausible deniability of the submitter. They can simply say, "I bought this card at a card show. If it was 'doctored', it wasn't because of anything *I* did to the card."

Happy that there is now a "set in stone" PSA rules - no gurssing needed. Hope they do a monthly decertification for cards inpacted. Wonder what is going to happen to the T206 Wagner? Known to have been trimmed - if not decertified - BS on the whole PSA scam - as long as I sell cards at top of the market pricing (knowing that I have not altered anything) - that's all I care about - my PC stuff is in bnders / holders.

Problem I see with PSA's rules is that I buy alot of raw-to-grade cards...how can PSA hold me liable for cleaning/altering if I didnt touch it but the seller who sold it to me did? I think PSA is going to shoot themselves in the foot with these new rules/guidelines.

Psa is a joke. They just started a comic book CLEANING and grading service! How is that any different than cleaning cards? Also, can someone…ANYONE..find me someone who was awarded money under PSA’s “grade guarantee”?? All i have ever heard and seen is them deny people anything when they try and make a claim to them. PSA changing their stance doesnt protect people buying raw. Wonder how many people are gonna buy a card, send it to psa, and get rejected because it got scrubbed before it was bought? There is no protection from soaking as long as people exist in this hobby who dont care about hobby etiquette and will just keep doing it. Even if they dont do it to fool psa, theyll do it raw cards to sale to unsuspecting buyers.

I eagerly await PSA decertifying all the shiny stuff that is known to be wiped, pressed, waxed and massaged from 2020 until now. I wonder if a collector could take them to court if they claimed a card was "doctored" and they had video proof of a card being pulled that proves PSA wrong. At that point, PSA would have to defend being an opinion versus actually knowing what the hell they're doing and offering a "professional" service. There's a clown show.

It's like me being upset you wiped the dust off the card you are trying to get graded. Did you use a microfiber cloth because that's 100% cheating to by your definition!!!! Did you tell the people you sold it to about that dust because maybe they'd like a sample to know you're even telling the truth about the dust. Maybe they're worried it's a different kind of dust all together!! Over the years that dust appeared for a reason i guess so don't even try to use your breath to remove it or it gives PSA an angle to sue you. This is ridiculous. What other older/vintage products that the general public is interested in and anyone could buy are held to these dumb standards? When a car gets a dent or scratched why should it matter that it was professionally repaired before sale. If it is a vintage car you're advertising as ALL ORIGINAL but none of the part numbers match then that would be an altered car and not original. Altered is altered is altered. No arguments there. But if you're using non-invasive or additive elements to "pull" a dent out of a card and there are no leftover chemical remnants and everything about the card structurally and visually is like it was the day it was printed i don't understand what everyone is so upset about. Just don't try me about the dust. I'll fight for you being required to leave the dust as you naturally found it for the rest of my years

I can care less for PSA! If I want to clean my cards, fix dents, give them a sheen. I will do it! Just as I would do that on cars when I want them to look the best. I think this will ruin the business for PSA, just as Fanatics is ruining true collecting!
