One of the first things that came to my mind about rejoice with trembling was Fred from the Cars movie when McQueen called him by his name

It could mean this-we rejoice because we understand now. However, it shakes us to the core how confused we were. It actually frightens us. You can be truly happy and humble about your previous ignorance. Thank you, pastor. I read both Psalms 1 and 2 before watching. I only saw a few things you noted. It will be exciting to see if I start seeing more on each initial reading.

I infer that “…and rejoice with trembling” mirrors the general idea of fearing the Lord.

Pastor, is it fair to say that this psalm prophesies of the final judgment of the nations as written in Rev 20:7-9?

Is it not David who is saying he is the begotten son?

They shall serve the Lord their God and David their King, who I will raise up for them (referring to the resurrection of the two witnesses). "The city of David" IS the name of the city of God. Jesus writes this name on the one who conquers (rider on the white horse). The last Adam (his own new name, given to eat of the tree of life in the paradise of God, etc...)

I've never read anyone suggesting that Ps2 was once the first Ps. However, there have been several who have postulated that Ps 1 & 2 were one writing. The beginning of Ps 1 is echoed at the end of Ps 2. It is rare in the first book of the Psalms not to have it attributed to someone, especially to David. However, most hold that there is no go reason not to attribute these to David. The English reader misses the force of the Hebraic use of the emphatic personal pronouns in Ps 2. "MY Anointed" where the Hebrew word is actually Messiah. "MY King" and "My Son." This is not in reference to any Jewish king or any earthly king. History has no representation of the Messiah as King ruling all the nations of earth and having the nations rebel. Nimrod rebelled. Babel rebelled. However neither of these fit the narrative. In Acts, Peter refers to Ps 2 when attributing that Rome and the Jewish rulers put the Messiah to death. It must be noted that when the OT is quoted in the NT, it MUST be asked how the quote is being used. Fruchtenbaum in his "Messianic Christology" suggests four ways OT quotes are used in the NT. #1 a literal prophecy being literally fulfilled. #2 a literal prophecy by typically fulfilled. #3 a literal prophecy plus application. #4. a summation. Peter in Acts 4 is employing #3. Some have suggested that the rebellion seen in the gathering of the nations at Armageddon to be the literal fulfillment. The objection to that hypothesis is that "My Anointed" is not ruling as "My King" over the nations of earth at that moment in history. There is only one instance in scripture (scripture interprets scripture) that we see 1) the Messiah established as King and ruling all the nations of earth, and 2) the nations gathering to discuss and then to rebel against the Messianic King seated on His earthly throne. i.e. Rev 20. There we see the long promised Davidic covenant fulfilled where Jesus, the God-man rules from Jerusalem (with a rod of iron) all the nations from His throne during the millennium. At the end of that literal 1000 yrs, Satan is unbound and he gathers the nations to rebel against the God-man. Herein lies the literal fulfillment of Psalm 2's prophetic decree. The perspicuity of scripture.

Do you say Jesus is King?
@leefury7
@leefury7 Жыл бұрын
@@nathanyamaha465 Yes and no. Yes, He will be king on earth during the millennium. But theologically/scripturally, it is the Father who sits on the central throne and is declared King of Kings. In 1 Tim 6:15, the antecedent is God the Father.

Jesus Christ quoted the Messianic Psalm 2 about someone other than himself: . Revelation 2:26-27 And to him that conquers and observes my deeds down to the end I will give authority over the nations, 27 and he shall shepherd the people with an iron rod so that they will be broken to pieces like clay vessels ** THE SAME ** as I have received from my Father . A man THE SAME as Jesus Christ except he is ... King of the Nations (Gentiles not Jews). . . Now do you understand why God will laugh? . .
