This is my dream UI for the PS2. OPL works, but I've always been a big fan of fancy and unique UI design, and this one delivers in spades. The only thing stopping me from installing this right now are the HDD size limit and the lack of easy to use tools for installing games and art. If and when those aren't problems anymore, I'll be gladly installing this and running it as my main driver. Amazing work, and super happy to see it still being worked on in the modern day! Maybe in the future too, we can get even more functionality back online. I'd certainly love to try Nobunaga's Ambition Online someday... And of course I'm still hoping for an FFXI PS2 private server too lol

If you are having problems connecting to the PSBBN online channels then I suggest you check which PSBBN English version you have downloaded. @@CosmicScaleFactor Thanks for your answer. I definitely downloaded your version of PSBBN. I haven't solved the network problem yet when the new one from OPL Luncher appeared. I will show it on the example of SSX Tricky, maybe you can point out where I am making a mistake I installed the game on HDD, changed the partition name from "PP.SLES-50545.HDL.SSX_Tricky" to "__.SLES-50545.HDL.SSX_Tricky" I created a new partition "PP.SLES-50545.HDL.SSX_Tricky" . I prepared the EXECUTE.KELF file using kelftool. I sent the EXECUTE.KELF & system.cnf file to "PP.SLES-50545.HDL.SSX_Tricky" using HDL_Dump. In " PP.SLES-50545.HDL.SSX_Tricky" I created "res" where I placed info.sys & jkt_001.png and jkt_002.png. In Game Channel I see SSX Tricky but the game does not work.
@CosmicScaleFactor2 ай бұрын
@@michaszymanski did you also inject list.ico and icon.sys into the PP partition's header? It won't work without them. In any case, I'd recommend using PFS-BatchKit-Manager. It has an option to "Convert HDL Partition for PSBBN". As for the network issue, have you tried manual setup? Have you tried the "Change router settings" option and accessing google in the web browser? If all the settings are correct on PSBBN then it seems to me it's an issue with your router blocking access. The online channels are hosted on "psbbn.ru". Can you access this website on other devices that are connected to your network? Make sure you try http and not https when testing other devices. PS2 does not support secure websites.

Heya, wanna ask how you managed to setup a dualboot instance of PS2Linux alongside PSBBN, assuming this has to be installed separately and isn't included in the english patch
@CosmicScaleFactor3 ай бұрын
Yep, the patch is a translation of the stock Japanese PSBBN. All the extras like games and Linux need to be installed separately. Explaining how could take a whole video alone... but because PSBBN is a flashy interface running on top of Linux, you can modify the startup script to load a different kernel and point to a new root location. It's the best way to boot Linux on PS2 since the kernel loader that comes with PSBBN is practically identical to the one that comes with the official Linux kit. The only other alternative is the homebrew kernelloader app that lacks DMA support.

So I got PSBBN Installed, and have some games installed that work fine in OPL Loader. Before I made partitions for individual games, I loaded it back up to make sure BBN still launched (I had an issue before passing the 130gb limit, and had to start over with a fresh image install) and it worked fine. I then went into PFS Batchkit and converted 2 games to play from PSBBN, and to test them out.. Now When I load up PSBBN, it does load up, but when I go to the games channel, it hangs on the "Loading Data" screen trying to load the collection, and after about a minute, the HDD light stops blinking, so its not even trying to read anything anymore, yet it still hangs. I have to hard reset. Any advice on how to fix this issue?
@CosmicScaleFactor2 ай бұрын
Not sure, never heard of that problem before. I guess it could be something remaining on the drive from the previous corruption. Try formatting the drive with LaunchELF before trying to write the disk image again. If you have a way to boot backup DVDs on your console, then I'd highly recommend you follow the "Manual install and patch" instructions instead of using the disk image. That way you will avoid the possibility of the drive completely corrupting. If the disk image is your only option, another way to avoid corruption in the future would be to get a "Kingston A400 120gb SSD". I used that model to create the image and found it to work very well with PSBBN. You can pick them up for less than £20 if you shop around.
@Bobman32x2 ай бұрын
@@CosmicScaleFactor I think the HDD works fine. I deleted the 2 games I "converted" to launch in BBN, and now the collection menu loads properly again. My guess is that the files themselves may have been corrupted? Gonna do some trial and error. Whats the method you use to convert to launch? Im using PFS Batchkit. Everything is in ZSO format. just seeing where I may have made a mistake
@CosmicScaleFactor2 ай бұрын
@@Bobman32x I use some custom batch files that I wrote myself. I've been recommending PFS-BatchKit-Manager because others seem to have had success with it. I mostly use ZSO, be aware that OPL does not work with every game in the ZSO format but a majority are fine.
@Bobman32x2 ай бұрын
@@CosmicScaleFactor Im having a suspicion that it has something to do with the ZSO format, because OPL Loader doesnt even load up when booted from my FMCB card when the hdd is plugged in now, but does, when the drive isnt attached. Even if the BBN didnt work, booting into OPL Loader and running the ISOs through there used to work fine before I compressed everything to ZSO. Something in these game files is causing the hard drive to stall and I have no idea why. I am so confused why this is happening.
@CosmicScaleFactor2 ай бұрын
@@Bobman32x if OPL doesn't even launch then it's not the games. It could be corrupt OPL config files. Have a look in the +OPL partition on your HDD. Delete conf_opl.cfg, conf_network.cfg and conf_game.cgf, if you find them. Delete those files on your memory card too. Launch OPL, change the necessary settings and save them. Other than that I can only recommend trying a different HDD or SSD.

How does Feega work with this? I know it’s a long dead service and the servers are practically nonexistent, but one of the games I want to play that requires the BB Navigator also requires a linked Feega account to install data. Are you still able to set up an account at the very least? I just need to bypass that check in order for the game to work (or so I think)
@CosmicScaleFactor2 ай бұрын
Interesting. What game you trying to play? With my image you can't really create an account because the servers don't exist, but you can select the option "Save feega-ID and Password". This allows you to enter your feega-ID (just make something up) and password (must be 8 characters long and include a number), you then have the option to save the account to a memory card or HDD. Not sure if that will be enough to get through the install but it's worth a shot. Let me know how you get on.

Will this work on a vanilla protokernel 10000 with the external HDD?
@CosmicScaleFactorАй бұрын
It's a bit tricker but not impossible. If you can install the Japanese PSBBN software then you might be able to patch it. The patch relies on the homebrew app, Kernelloader, I believe it has issues working with early model PS2 consoles but you could try. The other solution would be to boot the included kernel and RAM disc with the official Sony Linux RTE disc and install the patch that way. The raw HDD image is 120 GB in size so is too big for the external HDD. Patching an existing PSBBN install is the only way.
@dragonforcesАй бұрын
