If I'm not mistaken, this has a 32-bit EFI but a 64-bit processor, so many new 64 bit Linux distros won't work out of the box. You'll need to prepare a special USB installer which uses a 32-bit bootloader and then switches over to 64-bit when loading the OS. There are text guides online on how to do this, but no videos AFAIK. Might be worth a vid.

5:57 not sure exactly what could've been the problem, but I suspect that you might've needed to change time and date through terminal due to multiple certificates being expired. Since those certificates are possibly (and most likely) expired, then that usually tells the computer to reject the macOS install. This is just my guess, but I think that might be the reason why the install was rejected by your Mac. P.S. If you're wondering to which date your mac should be set to, then try something like a year before the release of the system you're trying to install (Lion's release date was in 2011, so try changing it to 2010 or etc)

@Psivewri OSx Lion was one of the first OSx versions released via the App Store. If you want to install it, you will need to change the clock date as signatures in the installer prevent Lion from installing on a date after or before it's release as at 5:55 . Try setting your date back to 2012 and then install it on the laptop.

It's actually possible to swap logic boards with a Macbook 5,2, aka Early-Mid 2009. I swapped them and it now runs El Capitan natively, along with Mojave and even Big Sur with patchers. It's worth it, in my opinion, if you have the time and money to do it. These logic boards usually cost around $30 USD. All of the parts fit in the new logic board except for the SuperDrive, due to an interface change.

My first macbook was one of these bad boys, I bought it in 2006 and I still have it to this day. I replaced it in 2016 with a 2012 MBP, but it lasted those ten years while I was in school, which was very impressive. It’s slow, loud, and unusable for anything apart from light web browsing and writing word documents, but it still works okay considering its age. Not to mention how nice the black looks, with the bright white apple logo. The white ones don’t seem to have aged as well, so I’m glad I ended up with a black model.

I bought this laptop last year, but in white and with a c2d T8100, 4gb of ram, 500gb ssd, with a charger but no battery for $50. the cpu locks itself to low power without a battery so i bought a black battery. the reason i went with the black one was because it was a great deal for a barely used genuine battery, your setup reminds me of it. i was able to install linux on it with no problems but when i wanted to try windows it refused to boot from that usb so if you wanted windows you had to use dvd to install it. but overall a really fascinating laptop to use!

I had the white one of those, saw me through uni pretty well though watching this video was very nostalgic as I was always opening the thing to replace keyboards/hinge mechanisms as well as a couple upgrades to ram and HD. Had to replace the battery once or twice too. Bizarrely despite this I am still fond of this model
