Disable motion smoothing in SteamVR settings, set OpenXR runtime as SteamVR instead of Oculus, set resolution to custom and 68% and increase gradually if the graphics card seems to handle it at the higher settings. Disable hardware accelerated GPU scheduling. These will fix most stuttering issues in the headsets. In some situations a graphics card driver upgrade and reinstallation of SteamVR and then the PlayStation VR2 application will fix display connection issues during the configuration phase.

I can understand your frustration. I thought, i would have run in every imaginable issue when setting up the adapter, except bluetooth issues. But in the end, if could solve every problem - and definitely despite the sony support, who was just clueless. And i am not even talking about the first level, but even second level support. The psvr2 software was unfortunately programmend in a way, that it instantly crashed, as long as my igu of my 7800x3d was deactivated (in Bios as well as devic manager) although it was correctly connected to my 4090. After finding out thanks to some people in the steam forum who ran in the same issue, the next issue was, that my newly bought 1.4 hdmi cable wasn't recognized as 1.4. I remembered that i saw a new beta bios for my msi mb, that mentioned to solve compatibility issues with nvidia cards ( although i never ran into issues like this with my reverb g2 or my q2,q3 or p4). I installed the new bios and the cable was detected correctly. The 100% resolution in steamvr is set to 3.4k by 3.4k. So i really had the expectation that i would get a crisp picture - at least comparable to q3 in VD on godlike settings. But no way... the colours look great, but thanks to the oled subpixels of the display and the damn diffusion filter sony has applied to hide the screendoor effect, the picture not even gets close to the crispsness of my Q3 (with dedicated wifi6e router setup). Nevertheless it has some other advantages (like low latency, great blacks , 0 compressions oc), but to me crispness is on #1 of my priorities, and wireless comfort on #2.

VR in general pretty well ticks all the boxes for something I have no desire to use (motion sickness, I wear glasses, don't want something bulky strapped to my face, requires flailing around to control things, no killer apps, expensive, etc.) and Sony's iterations are all of that plus poor software support (without any chance of future support since Sony has obviously just given up on it). Having grown up through the 1990s it is really funny to think that VR has been "the next big thing" for the majority of my life and yet 30+ years later it still just kind of sucks.

@@VideoGameEsoterica I wouldn't say an equal amount. Not sure where you pulled that from. That's a bit of a wild unsubstantiated claim. It's just that for the people it does work for wouldn't feel a need to write about it as much as the people it doesn't work for. So you would tend to think there's a lot of people who have trouble but in reality they would be a small number. Would you bother letting people know your TV worked? No. Would you bother letting people know it didn't work & complain to someone? Yes. Same thing. I'd guess only a very small percentage would have trouble & in most cases is not the adapter's fault. There is also a slim chance that you have a defective adapter.

Also, this is a bit extreme but have you tried dual booting a fresh install of windows just for testing? I think it's totally unreasonable as a troubleshooting step but do you think it could be something to do with the software configuration of your PC? That's where the most variables are often introduced, a used install of windows means a load of programs get in the backend and mess with the registry, path variables, all kinds of stuff.

Otherwise, good video, it's nice seeing peoples experience with VR in 2024. I've been helping my brother play VR remotely over Discord (he's in a different town) and the absolute misery that is the quest 2 with PCVR is astounding. I really dislike how these massive companies are subsidising the VR market so the average user can buy into VR, but then the experience is horrible because Meta, Sony, cut corners. But there's is so. Much. Setup. and So. Much. Troubleshooting needed. It makes me look back to the HTC Vive fondly. I remember the days where everyone complained about the setup and overhead involved with PCVR. But man, what we had back then really was plug and play compared to what we have now. The only way PCVR will take off is if it's treated like a peripheral. Plug and play. Drivers installed. And in 5 seconds, without any windows, setup instructions, it's ready to use. That's a reality I can get behind, and I also think it's realistic. But one of the companies needs to step forward and create a standard - valve tried with steam VR - but then Meta ruined all of it by turning Oculus into an AIO device with a proprietary software ecosystem. :(

Oh wow. I have it since release after the first reviews were positive and it worked like a charm. The only things I would complain about is Bluetooth not integrated in the box and not all functions of the headset are supported yet (HDR, adaptive triggers and eye tracking). I bought a Bluetooth adapter that worked out of the box but a lot of people had problems with it. The issues you described would have driven me crazy. In my case it works almost flawlessly with Steam VR (the room height has to be recalibrated from time to time) and I have pretty good performance with a 3090 which should be quite similar to your card. The main difference might be my AMD CPU but obviously that shouldn't cause these problems you ran into. I also had zero problems updating the headset. Something has to be extremely buggy in your case. But that issue in combination with the low frame rate makes me think it might be some kind of incompability between the USB Controller on your Mainboard and the PSVR 2 box.

Damn that's a shame. Definitely seems like this adapter was undercooked by Sony. Between these sorts of issues and the BT issues (which apparently were mostly stemming from one particular adapter that Sony themselves recommended), it's pretty clear this wasn't well tested or coded. Hopefully they get it sorted out. That said, I have seen people just buy it and hook it up and it works first time. But there are way too many cases like yours out there. Personally I just bought a PSVR 2 around a month ago when it was on sale and I've been enjoying it a lot on PS5. My PC is trash though so I haven't picked up the adapter. I think it's pretty obvious by now (actually it was obvious on release of the PSVR2) that Sony just gave up on VR as a viable product. The lack of back-compat, the lack of first-party software, and the release of a PC adapter (that's clearly just the dev hardware with 'it might work on your setup' beta drivers with no QA) show they simply refused to invest any more money post-launch unless it was a big hit. Astro Bot, which started out as a mascot for the PSVR2, just got its own title without any PSVR2 support at all (not even a single minigame). The big irony, like the PS4 Pro, the PS5 Pro was mostly meant for people who wanted a smoother VR experience and isn't spec'd to increase game speed/res in general because it lacks enough RAM or CPU power to do that. It has barely enough extra resources for the "oh, we have to render two views instead of one" case. It's not their premium unit (because why else would disc-support be a clumsy add-on?).

I don't really have much to say other than damn, it's a shame you couldn't get it to work. At first, I was thinking c'mon man are you really going to post a bad review without ever having really used it, but I see that you really did troubleshoot a ton before getting burnt out, and I probably would have done the same. For me everything worked pretty much first try with an amazon basics DP cable, my motherboard's wifi/bluetooth antenna, and the USB of the adapter is even plugged into a USB hub. I have an OG 3080 and a 5800x3D. Honestly though, even though its working for me, I still support NOT recommending this product to anyone really. The sheer laziness of the product (not including DP cable, barely working Bluetooth connection) tells me that Sony really doesn't care about PCVR users and making this adapter was just an easy cash grab. They have pushed 1 update for the PSVR2 PC app since release, which is a good thing, but I still don't get the feeling that Sony really cares about PSVR2 much or VR in general. The fact that they don't sell separate controllers at all or spare parts for the headset is also concerning. Other huge issues like the mura and persistence get drowned out by the painful setup, but that's a whole other story. I am enjoying this headset as a VR enthusiast who doesn't mind spending money on what I love, but I cannot recommend this product to any new VR users, because the chance of having a horrendous first experience is so high.
