Thank you for your explanations. It sounds like I would enjoy a PsyD more than a PhD.
@RenaesCorner4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm maybe! It really depends because I’ve heard of some psyd programs being research heavy and then some PhDs being practice heavy! You’ll really have to look into each program and probably ask graduate students their experiences in that program.

That’s fair! I know some people who graduated with psyd that teach as well as some people still in psyd programs and teaching! It’s definitely possible!

Oh my God, thank you so much for this clearing all this up, I'm starting my BA next year and was concerned about my progression as I'm not overly intrigued by the research more so the practical side so the Psy d will be best, thanks for the synopsis.

Thank you for watching and I’m glad it helped!! I would say be flexible in your plan for your career/degree path. I came into my undergrad wanting to be a marriage and family therapist and things have drastically changed since then!

Could you tell me the name of the, school/ program that you're in? I'm doing research on requirements for these programs, and I liked the scientist practitioner model you described. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, so I don't typically put it in youtube comments (because of trolls emailing my university), but if you shoot me an email I can tell you all about it.

Hello would you do a video on research psychologist I have not seen very many videos. And would you do video on Psychologist that prescribe meds? The PHD and PsyD seem to work interchangeably in some careers is that correct?
@RenaesCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am not sure what you mean by research psychologists - do you mean like non-practicing psychologists? I dont really know much about psychologists who are able to prescribe medications, as it is still a new thing! They are mainly required to get additional training, but I am not sure of all the details. Yes, the PsyD and Phd in clinical psychology work interchangeably and together! :)

Scientific model is the best at making you such a well rounded Psychologist :D (also PHD's tend to be funded... which is the biggest reason I want that instead of the PsyD)

May I ask how long the wait was between undergraduate and graduate school? I'm afraid of applying to PhD and getting rejected due to no relevant experience. How would you go about gaining experience in a field where the work done requires experience?
@RenaesCorner4 жыл бұрын
So I took two years off between undergrad and graduate school. I spent one year just working on the GRE and then the second year I went to a post-bacc fellowship work. What I did when i was looking for experience was look at the universities in my area and see if they had any like lab manager/research coordinator positions. I hope that helps!

I am in Texas and just applied to a masters in clinical psychology which is a science-practitioner model. I love research and practice. I already have masters degrees in art history and studio are. So, research and practice are inseparable to me. In Texas we can get licensed with just a masters, so a PhD may or may not be in my future. Time will tell.

hi! i’m sorry if this is a dumb question but i’m in highschool currently taking AP psych and i’m extremely interested in a clinical child psychologist. Do you think it’s a good idea to major in psychology and minor in child development, get my masters. and work on my PHD or PSyd while pursuing a smaller job with my masters? i know that’s a lot i just wanted a second opinion haha
@RenaesCorner3 жыл бұрын
There are no dumb questions :) I think you are WAYYYYY ahead of the game as a high schooler! I think that that sounds like a good plan if you want to pursue that! I would also be flexible! You might find that you fit within another plan or type of psychology better! Many phd programs do not require you to get a masters degree prior to applying! There are some clinical psych programs where you would earn a masters degree within the context of earning your doctorate!

I think it is possible. I would be sure to read all the requirements for your program - each country has their own regulations on how to be come a clinical psychologists. it might be helpful to reach out to someone who is in clinical psychology near you!
