I'm still undecided in undergraduate school but all the videos of clinical psychologists bring off this cool energy that redirects my attention towards psychology even more.

I feel you I’m also undecided but I’m passionate about mental illness even though I’m not into medical field I’ll just give my all into psychology and I suggest like doing research on psychology as a major

@@johnashu950 I agree. I started off as a bio major my first semester of college and I didn’t put any effort into it at all. I kind of felt trapped in my bio classes but now that I’m taking classes related to psychology. I’m loving it and can definitely see my self in that field and give all my effort into researching things in psychology.

This was very helpful! Currently looking at grad programs, I work at a psychiatric hospital which is another great job for clinical psychologist especially in the forensic psychology field! Every state has a department of mental health that includes psychiatric state hospitals and they are FULL of clinical psychologists. Thank you for the information keep up the great content!

What is the role of clinical psychologists in psych wards, as they can't prescribe medicines for serious disorders...?
@RenaesCorner
@RenaesCorner 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Clinical psychologists are able to do therapy, conduct brief evaluations, de-escalate along side psychiatrists, consult with the medical team on treatment planning, etc. Although, you’re right they cannot prescribe medications, there’s lots of non-pharmaceutical interventions that can help people with more severe psychopathology and serious disorders.

Hello! Your videos are very helpful! I was wondering if it would make more sense to focus on doing child clinical psychology instead of mainly focusing on neuropsychology. I know some programs do have areas in both. Overall, I want to be a Clinical Neuropsychologist who works with children. I'm not sure which would make more sense to choose.
@RenaesCorner
@RenaesCorner 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm this is a good question that I am not sure if I am qualified to answer! I would probably reach out to some neuropsychologists and see what they suggest. I know for neuropsych you have to get a lot more assessment hours and focused work there. Sorry I’m not much help in this area!
@andrewharmony
@andrewharmony 4 жыл бұрын
I am also wanting to be a clinical neuropsychologist and my mentor is a pediatric clinical neuropsychologist. So there are programs that focus on working with kids in neuropsychology. I know Ohio State's clinical neuropsych program has a pediatric specialty, and I'm sure there are other schools too! Neuropsych is kind of weird because not many schools offer neuropsych as a specialty of clinical psych to begin with, and then neuropsych also seperates into even more specialties so it can get really confusing lol.

Great job. Does clinical psychology deals with Mental health issues only OR Mental health issues in addition to the wellness of healthy people of all ages and diversities??.
@RenaesCorner
@RenaesCorner 3 жыл бұрын
GREAT QUESTION! so I would say it’s on a spectrum. Most clinical psychologists deal with mainly mental illness across different people and ages, however we do sometimes see people who are healthy too. Mental health wellness is for everyone! I would say counseling psychologist do more of the holistic care that’s not centered on mental illness. You might want to check out the Counseling vs Clinical psychology video!

If I may ask wat type of psychologist deals with relationships of all kinds
@RenaesCorner
@RenaesCorner 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm it depends on what you mean by deals with... there are some social psychologists who research different types of relationships. There are some clinical psychologists who I assume research relationships and mental health as well as provide services (like therapy) to different types of relationships. Lastly there’s marriage and family therapists and PhD-ers, who aren’t necessarily psychologists, but focus on relationships more in depth!

Hi, may I ask what kind of mental illnesses do clinical psychologists deal with primarily? What kind of qualities are required to be one and what are the typical challenges you face with clients? How do you also prevent burnout in this job?
@RenaesCorner
@RenaesCorner 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, so as a clinical psychologist we see lots of different mental illnesses from the most severe mental illness like schizophrenia to more common things like anxiety. I think the qualities are just willingness to learn and be able to connect with people and hear them emphatically. Typical challenges are like burn out and paperwork lol. I dont know if you can prevent burn out, but you can always just do alot of self care and having a life outside of psychology.

How much math is involved in studying clinical psychology ? Like can u detail mention them ?
@RenaesCorner
@RenaesCorner 2 жыл бұрын
I would say there's some math involved! We definitely do quite a bit of stats in research! In clinical settings there's not as much math, but you still have to be able to understand the stats in research articles.

I think you should apply to clinical psychology programs that have a neuropsychologist on faculty and they should be able to guide you better than I can guess. You could also join the APA division for neuropsychology.

@@RenaesCorner How far does clinical psychology study the human behvaiour?
@RenaesCorner

I’m not really sure what you mean. Clinical psychology is a sub speciality of general psychology. So clinical psychology generally study human behavior in the context of mental illness.
