Thank you for this video. You put this into terms that were so easy to understand. I'm working on my clinical counseling master’s, and I want to pursue my PhD in counseling psychology. I can't explain how relieved I feel after this video. Thank you so much!

After this video I definitely think I’m more aligned with the scope of counseling psychology, and I have a greater appreciation for that lense. I want to become a school based mental health therapist and I’m currently looking for good masters programs

Great! I’m glad this video helped clarify some things for you! You might want to also check out my school psych video for your interests in working in schools!

As a school psych, the focus is generally evaluations and counseling is an occasional component depending on the school district. In my experience, mental health counseling is often done by school based social workers. Sch psychos typically do more crisis counseling. The majority of our work load is evaluating for learning problems and writing reports.

Yeah that’s a good summary!! I guess it depends on the school district too! The school district I worked for previously had both clinical and school psychologists!

This video was so helpful! I’m currently looking into grad school programs and I’m trying to decide between Clinical and Counseling but I’m mainly interested in therapy. Thank you so much for the video!

I'm glad it was helpful! I applied to both types of programs! So you don't have to decide between them! :) Both clinical and counseling psychology do therapy - how much or how little varies program to program.

Very insightful video! You should consider doing a video about salaries in mental health professions. I hear a lot of statements thrown around. Some people will say "masters level therapists make just as much with only 2 years of training" while others will say "psychologists make 20k-30k more with less debt" so it's kind of weird for me to look into this area.
@RenaesCorner4 жыл бұрын
that's a really good point! I think it all is very dependent on what type of psychologist or masters level therapist you are, the program you attend, location, and more. I don't know if theres a quick and dirty way to compare the salaries! I think you just have to decide which route provides the training that you are looking for to get to your end goal and work backwards from there!

I like how organized the video is! I just recently learned that clinical and counseling psychology were different, so this video is super helpful 😊 Really love the series.

It would be nice to hear a little bit about industrial organization psychology, I honestly have no clue about what it really is 😅 Also what the careers of different psychologists look like.

Thank you for your comment and for watching! I can reach out to a friend who is doing I/o psychology PhD and see if she can do a video on her channel. I also have no idea what it is. It’s pretty different from the more clinical sub fields.

this video was incredibly helpful. Vanessa is strikingly smart and you can tell she cares about what she's studying. haven't watched the other videos on this channel yet, but a suggestion i wanted to make based off of this one is to either lower to music volume or remove it altogether. it would have been much easier to hear her speaking!

So interesting! Thank you for explaining this. Do counseling psychologists also diagnose mental disorders through the DSM-5 or is that only clinical psychologists?
@RenaesCorner4 жыл бұрын
This is an excellent question - as far as I know all mental health professionals diagnose through the DSM-5. Even speech pathologist use the DSM :)
