This elevator takes the H2389 key for fire service. It is specifically cut for Dover Elevators. However there are more than one Dover fire service key. H2389 - Fire Service H2252 - Fire Service, Platform Lift

Dovers were the best build hydros, that’s what Dover pioneered in the 50s. My favorite brand it Dover too, would be amazing to see her run again.

Dovers were good till about the mid 90s, and now even worse since Tyssen Krupp took them over. Otis is my favorite elevator brand, then Westinghouse, montgomery, and us elevstor. I like otis tbe best because the were basically the inventor of the elevstor, and escalator.

One of those controller cards you picked up has the code "2697", which might be referring to Week 26 1997 (using a typical electronics date code) for that particular year of manufacture for that PCB. Doesn't particularly mean much, because it looks like there's controller cards older than it, but I suppose if anything it indicates that around 1997 or so it may have been serviced with new parts.

So in theory this could be made working again with some major cleaning because the buttons, machinery and controller box look in really good shape

Do they use 600volt 3 phase in the US? When I worked at an Imax the 2 projectors (left and right eye) for 3D ran on two Miller arc welder power supplies for the two 7 kilowatt xenon bulbs. Sooo bright omg. They were on a 600volt pannel

480V 3 phase delta for most industrial service.

USA used 480 volt three phase in buildings over maybe 10'000 square feet. Canada used 575 volts. About ten years ago while at a continuing education class they said USA was looking into allowing 575 volts three phase to save money on wires.

keep those parts, they are probably going to be the ones with the highest failure rate. eveen if they're bad you'll still need something to base your search off when looking for replacements, custom components are expensive however for a system that old it may be one of the few or even only options you'll have. i don't recognise it so its probably quite old.

I imagine the government/city is where this project could turn into a huge money pit as they'll probably require you rip everything out and put something new that has to meet all sorts of new standards etc. It's too bad though as it would be cool to try to get that old one going.

My apartment building has an elevator from the 1960s that runs on relay logic, and its still kicking. I'm sure it varies by the state legislature, but the owners of this building were somehow allowed to keep this ancient thing installed!

@@henryoppenheimer A lot of old elevators even from a century ago are still running places according to the KZbin channel DieselDucy who films vintage elevators. Some of the relay logic ones still work fine.

well, he's most likely going to do all that he can do himself and based on what little ive seen so far i'm thinking 10-15k max. at the very least he knows the basics on elevator servicing, hell i wouldn't be surprised if he's an actual certified elevator tech.

That place is probably COVERED and held together by asbestos. My local hospital has older sections but they’ve tested every single room and labelled every door frame. Have a question? The pro is on site to identify and holy do they ever take precautions. Makes the job take 10x the time but what are you going to do? I’m not touching it! Lol
