As an Afrikaans woman, I can concur that there are a lot of Afrikaans men who are really misogynistic and sexist. Especially the ones who were raised in a Calvinistic environment with traditional, strict parents - an overly macho father and a submissive mother. They have the mindset of "a woman should be barefoot and pregnant, waiting on my hand and foot and raising my kids." Therefore, I don't date South African men.

Hello Dr Kirk. There is a misconception that South African culture is homogenous. It’s not. There are 11 official languages which tells you something about the diversity of the country. One of the biggest issues is people going so far in relationships without discussing fundamental beliefs and ideas. Or talking about it and ignoring it until it gets to a point that it is make or break. That’s how it seems to me anyways.
@mistym0rning3 жыл бұрын
So true!! People are definitely not using their rational, logical parts of the brain for the first few months (and sometimes, sadly, years) of new relationships. Maybe our “infatuation hormones” such as dopamine and endorphins make us literally a bit blind to seeing the other person for who they truly are… and whenever we see behaviors or values they exhibit that conflict with our own desires or values, some of us probably “ignore” these because we’re in love and don’t want to believe that this could become an issue later on. 🤨 It’s basically a form of wishful thinking and denial, until those issues start to really kick those people in the butt. The only way to avoid this, I feel, is to really WAIT to get married or have kids. Just date and spend time together for a LONG while before making any big decisions.
@twiggyflacko3 жыл бұрын
@@mistym0rning I agree, I’ve done that more times than I’d like to admit. I think sometimes we just over look things as well; people might not even register the fact that what is ideal to them isn’t that way for everyone. Regarding brainwashing. The ideas we hold today, in a particular society - I’m not American but let’s say for example now, in the western world - how are they gonna be looked upon in the future? How are we ourselves gonna think about this point in time, and the ideas we now in 2021 hold as high moral and truth, or to use dr Honda’s words here, enlightened, 50 years from now? Maybe we would all cancel our historical selves. 🤪 Anyway, I think it’s a thought worth keeping in mind.

Ronald does appear sexist, but gender politics aside, Tiffany bears some responsibility too in creating a healthy, respectful relationship. She is overly critical, which is just as poisonous as his misogyny.

I never knew SA was so bad about sexism. It’s so frustrating that there are places that aren’t ‘third world’ that treat people so poorly based on their gender

Dr kirk, not staying its bot right to love and respect your wife as an equal but saying Ronald is brainwashed is a bit annoying because western culture also brainwashes you. One could say you are brainwashed just as equally by the things you are saying..m

I’m not hearing what dr Honda is hearing. Tiffany emasculates Ronald. Everything he does is wrong. So he’s saying in an ungrateful way about male/female roles. He’s trying to say, “woman stop emasculating me!” From what I’ve seen, I think it would be hard for most men to be with Tiffany. She’s demanding and ungrateful and unappreciative.

Now that society is comfortable we have the equal partnership ideas. but from the beginning of time the natural order has been men protect and lead , women submit, preserve and reproduce.... We try to change these ideas in society but our nature will always revert to the norm. That's one reason why the marriage divorce rate is so high and people aren't getting married anymore. We are leaving traditionalism behind. And what we do now doesn't work long term. If Ronald accepts this , he'll be de masculated completely in that marriage. He also needs to get his mess together, financial etc, in order to lead efficiently

It's interesting you would say this because history shows how men have deliberately held women back to keep us dependent on them. The wage gap, the glass ceiling, educational restrictions, etc. Now that women are demanding equality, you see groups like the incels becoming more and more common. Women don't need to marry a man to survive. And men aren't special just because they are men. That's why marriage is declining. If you, as a man, want to marry, you have to bring more to the table than your gender. And if you want to stay married, you have to be worth it. Because we no longer need a man to survive, we have options. Whenever a man advocates for a "traditional" way of living, I always wonder why he needs someone to be beneath him. How is that considered strength? It's the definition of weakness.

@@rebalove if the tables are turned, then why arent women fighting to get men 'dependent on them', its speaks to an underlying difference in mate value.
