I just finished watching this one this past weekend! Looking forward to your take on it. It was wild, like most of these docs on cults are. However, I will say this one shocked me where in ended up leading too. My heart always hurts for the members, I even cried watching the last episode during the apology meet up. I did appreciate how the experiencing of moral injury was discussed and the experience of victims becoming perpetrators themselves was covered.

I know absolutely nothing about this documentary but I am very excited to watch it alongside you, Kirk! From episode one, I can tell that this mirroring exercise would be absolutely terrible for me. It would encourage my constant gut reactions to feel guilty and blame myself every time I start to be mad or frustrated with someone else, which is no good and I actively try to fight against daily! It's so frustrating to have a default reaction of believing myself to be in the wrong, or if I am hurt or let down in any way it is because I have failed and it would be rude to have any sort of emotional reaction directed at someone else. I understand that a degree of introspection or reframing in this way can be very helpful certain individuals, but this sort of practice would push me into depressive moods. I'm pissed off already that there were people in this community who were likely similar to me but with less awareness and experience in therapy to recognize how harmful it is for them. Can't wait to see more from this documentary though 😭

It’s shocking when it does happen! I’m sitting back going through this with my now fiancée and we’re looking at these people like HOW! How can they do this to people? My ONE AND ONLY ADVICE I give people and any TRUE TWIN WOULD is to NEVER LOOK! just stop looking and live life! These people are just telling ppl what they want to hear! You don’t need to do any work! The divine guides you! You stumble upon this journey by accident and if there is no kundalini there is no twin at that moment they are aware of! So yes they want them to keep coming back and take their money!

The mirror exercise reminds me of Byron Katie’s “The Work” method and the four inquiries. 1. Is this statement true? 2. Can I absolutely know that it’s true? 3. How do I feel/react when I believe this thought? 4. Who would I be without this thought? And the last step I to “turn the thought around” - that’s what seems similar.
@dassijes5943 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, is this useful/therapeutic in your experience? I was given the Byron Katie exercise to do in a group therapy thing, and it was about a week after I’d watched the Netflix Twin Flames doc so I was like ‘hold up….wtf?’
@misse7095 Жыл бұрын
@@dassijes5943 I’m glad you saw the similarity too! I dabbled with The Work a few years back and think it can be useful as a way of questioning one’s negative thoughts and ruminating. But I just couldn’t make it work for all situations and it felt like victim blaming, as Dr. Honda mentions.

For anyone who isn't aware- there is an excellent podcast about TFU that came out last year. It's just called Twin Flames. It's so good. They even interviewed the guy who got a restraining order against Elle. They use a pseudonym for her since she did not participate the podcast but it's definitely Elle. His story is VERY different from hers- not in terms of the events that occurred necessarily- but each of them paint very different pictures of how those events played out. It was fascinating when I listened to it a year ago and it's even more fascinating now with this extra context.

Hmm... Sound s little like Scientology where they have people believe that everything bad that happens, or everything that effects then negatively, is because of something they did or what they believe in. There is this ex Scientology member. I think his channel is called 'Dazed But not Confused.' His entire channel is about his leaving Scientology and how the cult ruined his family and are still in control of a lot of his family members. I think he used to be an actor, but I am not super familiar with all American actors. Anyway, he talks about how some people left the cult of Scientology to start their offshoot cults which apply some of the same methods as Scientology. By the way, if Dr Kirk did an interview or collab with this guy who left Scientology, that would be a great episode I think.

I never liked the vibe from these two. I had no idea they were selling books and doing courses, they showed up on my KZbin and I just didn't believe in them they didn't seem real and sincere to me...now I see my intuition was spot on....the twin flame thing real or not does feel real if you have issues with connection, it locks you into the belief that one sided love is normal and eventually the other person will be with you when you do your inner work... We all need to do inner work and some of us more than others and millions of us have no help with it outside our own heads so this type of community of people is vast and preyed upon.... Now I gave up with it and have a new addiction of playing a game. There are thousands of lonely people on this mobile game and they're spending $1000s on micro transactions mental health issues shine bright egos among the spenders are insanely huge arguments hate and love for people they have never seen the face of is everywhere. I've never played a game like this I kind of hate it and enjoy it at the same time. Haha.

So if you are upset with your twin you need to look at your twins actions bc HE IS ACTUALLY MIRRORING YOU so that would be something you don’t like in yourself so you change it IN YOURSELF not your twin! By changing your own ways they automatically change theirs too bc your twin is mirroring your actions. This only happens with your twin! So it’s even good things! If you don’t have a twin they are having people do useless shit!!!! The mirror affect doesn’t mean shit without the kundalini and finding your twin first!
