Interesting. My mother works at a mental hospital and used to take me along often when I was little (because there was a huge garden there, she didn't subject me to any looney stuff, plus I always liked it there). There was a patient she always talked about, one of the "red zone" patients. He insisted "someone" kept watching him and so he'd crush mirrors and such, then he thought they must've operated on him while asleep and put mirrors in his eyes so they could see inside his skull and read his thoughts, he'd tried numerous times to gouge his eyes out. This story reminded me of him, although his story was.... well, more grotesque. As the years went on, he insisted he must've been put inside a mirror world where people would always watch him and kept calling out to everyone that they were "reflections". .... I've seen and heard many stories from that place and come to the conclusion that suffering from a mental illness, is far worse than any other disease, because it never ends.

Why is everyone in the comments all assuming he's just wrong and crazy? Sure he's crazy, but that's led to his survival. The doctor at the end reveals he truly is the last remaining human, and if he was sane he would of been "taken over" like everyone else, but his paranoia kept him untouchable by whatever creature is taking everyone, and controlling them.

jjchick95 The man was insane. He had psychokinesis but he was actually right. People were trying to deceive him. The “entity” was real and presumably needed to have some level of control over a person; that’s why it needs him to believe that the people he’s interacting with are real and that’s he just crazy. It wants his willpower so it can control him. His psychokinesis and extreme paranoia is keeping him alive and free from the entity’s control as stated at the end when the doctor said “a sane man would have fallen for the deception long ago”.

Amazing build up. Left my heart racing each time he almost opened the door, and made me question whether his decision to shut himself away from the outside world was correct or just simple paranoia. Each line made me hungrier to find out what happens next, and even sparked a seemingly primordial fear that all his connections were valid, and maybe even plausible. Towards the end of the story my heart began to sink as the outside world seemed to make more sense, with the thought that he's destroying the life he could have had. At the same time, I began to question my own judgment, thinking that if I were in that very situation I would be foolish enough to miscalculate, and open the door. I genuinely felt torn as the story progressed, unable to come to a solid conclusion. This story was nearly perfect. Making me question whether the narrator was right or wrong. Even making me reflect upon my own life in the very same way. Unable to look behind me, I unknowingly leaned in closer, and closer. The story couldn't move fast enough to satiate my unrelenting hunger for more. I've recommended this video to a very close friend of mine, knowing that he would enjoy this just as much, or maybe even more than I have. I really enjoyed the fact that this creepypasta didn't simply clearly state "this is all happening because of ghost. A sort of deus ex machina, but used more as a way to progress the story, and attempt to swell fear in the listeners. Not that ghost stories can't be good, but they are usually done poorly, or too crystal clear to give the story any value other than a one time listen. This was truly a masterpiece in a genre that is so brutally difficult to get right. The ending however just ruined everything the build up stood for. It should have been left ambiguous. Sometimes saying nothing at all is more powerful than an explanation. I rate 8/10. Would - in fact - be 10/10 in my book if it weren't for the ending. Oh well, at least I can pretend in my mind it ended in ambiguity.

So you'd end the story without any payoff to all the suspense you built? Good thing you didn't write because that wouldve been terrible.
@biglincolncreepypastaeng30225 жыл бұрын
With or Without Nuts The ending was the best part of the whole story imo. You see, it was kind of like in Cloverfield Lane. The story had it‘s strange events in it but overall you were mostly thinking that John is delusional. At least I did so. Especially in the end. I thought about how sad it was that he could have just opened the door and everything would have been okay. However, the last few sentences turn that around immediately and give a big „Oh no, you gotta be kidding me?!“. It was such an awesome twist and turnaround in emotions. For anyone wondering. In Cloverfield Lane happened something similar (SPOILER ahead!) The main protagonist was kidnapped by a delusional old guy in a bunker that didn‘t let her out because the air was poisonous. The whole time there are bizarre things happening that make you think if it‘s true or if he‘s just crazy and the world is fine. The ending twist was perfectly filmed and gave me goosebumps while watching. Honestly, it reminds me so much of this story.

I gotta say, most creepypastas are pretty mediocre. Predictable, cliche, with 1-dimensional characters, etc. This one was absolutely gripping. The reader's performance was very passionate, unlike most other readings. Although the story wasn't too unique, it definitely did a good job of keeping me guessing as the story progressed. I also like how the descent to madness was kept at least somewhat subtle. So many creepypastas have them just start screaming and cackling like a god damn witch, but at least this guy's descent had a great deal of depth to it. IDK how to explain it, but everything about the story felt very believable. The dialect was consistent (something that some writers forget, though it's pretty basic) and the relationship with his best friend (forgot her name) felt very deep and real. I also loved how subtly the descent into madness was. It's so easy for people to slip up on that aspect and have the descent feel unnatural or choppy, but this story makes it feel so natural and smooth that it's difficult to notice at some points. Very well-done! I don't know of many people who could tell such a strange story with so much depth as well as you did.

That was incredibly done! It made me feel like I was going through it along with the story. Of course I could let it all go when it was over. I've seen so many people that can't let reality resume. And this helped me to realize exactly how they feel through the situation. Cheers to all involved. And my suggestion in this case, never live in a basement apartment.😂

I heared this one by... I think CP Jr before, awhile ago. It is definitely one of the best and most cleverly told stories I've heard/read... Also first... Besides OP :P

I love this whole concept. It really got me thinking about how if you begin to suspect there is a “they” that can fool all your senses, then there’s no way to be sure about anything.

There's a brilliant meta-commentary about societal norms in this that I feel is underappreciated. The main character is both wrong and right. He's wrong about a phantom entity taking over the world, but he's right about, as the story reveals, the "deception". When it says the doctor wanted to smile, scream, and encourage the man, but was prevented by the "nerve filaments wrapped around his head", this is simply describing the dichotomy between our minds and our subconscious in a way that feels alien, to sorta point it out and put it under the spotlight. Your subconscious is the thing that prevents you from doing inappropriate things. Those little thoughts you have in the back of your head. I could jump off this bridge and die. I could kill this person with the knife that I'm using to cut this onion. I could tell this person that I love, that I hate them and hope they die a horrible death, and then bite their ear off. Horrible things that you know you won't do, and certainly won't tell anybody about, yet you still entertain the idea in your mind and feel bad about it moments later. Our subconscious prevents us from acting on those ridiculous thoughts. It's like a filter. By going insane, the main character threw away his filter. The same filter that prevented the doctor from egging the patient on or randomly screaming in the hallways. He thought, "I could be being deceived by my own eyes. I could gouge out my eyes". And rather than stop at that, he let his paranoia drive him to actually do it. And the story highlights all of this by telling it from the insane man's perspective, even when jumping into an omniscient third person point of view at the end. God, this story is brilliant.

I think this story would have been better without the epilogue. Not knowing, one way or another, would have added to the atmosphere, and the feeling of existential dread. That's how I feel. Still one of the best written creepypastas out there, though.
@BradenBest8 жыл бұрын
***** I think the epilogue adds an interesting new element to the story. It isn't made clear what the "deception" is. It could be a supernatural hivemind, an alien assimilation, or it could be something as innocuous as humans being humans, but painted in such a way as to seem sinister.
@okidoll8 жыл бұрын
I agree. The epilogue pointed it in one direction where without it, you were left wondering.
@juanjuanfive68058 жыл бұрын
Braden Best the ending seemed sinister, in an alien sort of way, but it could just be an over exaggerated representation of what we filter ourselves from doing

This is THE GREATEST Chilling Tale...Ever. almost lost it at the very end with the doctor, but held on to keep the mood of this masterpiece. I want to put forth another word of praise, but the only way to appropriately phrase it is...) This is THE GREATEST Chilling Tale...Ever.

Aural Stimulation | Jeff Clement Well you did it my friend! Congratulations! This currently is the only creepy story in my"favorites" list at the moment! You and Otis Jiry are my favorite creepystory narrators! With you two I'd never have to hear Morgan Freeman again! Markiplier and Cryaotic are my next two favorites
