For context: proof/doody was shot at a club in Detroit, reports claimed that he pulled his gun first, hence "he wouldn't shoot at no one, he'd fight first", proof and em inspired each other, em points out they even rhymed in a similar way. Also, this is another example of eminem sampling a song and adding even more to it, this one is by ozzy Osbourne. Great videos, keep it up

7:56 Eminem's best friend's name was Proof, they grew up together since they was kids and on april 11 2006 Proof was shot in the head and chest outside a club over a game of Pool. Eminem made another track called "You're never over" that he dedicates to Proof and it's definitely one of his most powerful songs. I hope to see you do this one as well in the future!

Timeline of Eminem songs covered in Reaction Therapy as of this video The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) • Stan The Eminem Show (2002) • Cleaning Out My Closet Encore (2004) • Mockingbird Curtain Call: The Hits (2005) • When I’m Gone Eminem was in drug rehabilitation from 2005-2008. His overdose was in 2007. He actually became good friends with Elton John because he helped him take steps to getting off drugs. Eminem’s been clean since April of 2008. Eminem referenced this "four year hiatus" in the song Déjà Vu: "Okay, so now ya see the reason how come he has taken four years to just put out an album, B." Relapse (2009) • Déjà Vu Recovery (2010) • Going Through Changes The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (2013) • Headlights Revival (2017) • Castle • Arose Music To Be Murdered By (2020) • Darkness • Godzilla

The night Heath Ledger died Eminem was rushed to hospital almost in a coma from overdosing and I swear somewhere he even says that could have been him and was a strong indicator for why he wanted to recover. His best friend Proof was actually shot in a bar/nightclub by a bouncer I believe it was, they said he shot first which is what Em is referring too saying that's not like him he would fight first. Losing his best friend was a main role into his downward spiral

Also, Proof, or “Doody,” was Eminem’s best friend, who was shot and killed over a decade ago. This came out after that. It’s cool to see how he handled all of it, because I just lost one of my close friends and it’s hard but people like Juice and Eminem understand and make it better with the lyrics. Gives me goosebumps when it gets to the hospital part!

I'm a psychiatrist I have a 26 year old daughter. That's how I was introduced to Eminem in the late 90s by her and her friends. I mean I liked rap before although it wasn't my favorite genre. Eminem is now my favorite and has been for years. I think he has done a lot for people with his music. This song was about when he overdosed on said pills he's speaking on. It became a problem after his best friend Proof was shot and died. He was Ems everything. After the overdose he asked his friend Elton John for help. They have both spoke on it and he has been sober for over 10years. Great song! Ps I like you would love to interview him get in line lol.

The best friend he's referring to is Proof, another rapper from Detroit. Eminem and Proof were very close growing up, and Proof was one of the members of the rap group D12 which Eminem was also a part of. Proof didn't commit suicide, he was shot and killed in 2006. Eminem references Proof a lot in his music, sometimes calling him Proof, sometimes "best friend," and sometimes by his real name, DeShaun.

Proof was shot & killed at a pool hall here in Detroit! They say he pulled a gun first but Proof wasn't known to do that ever!!! He had a wife/girlfriend & kids here.....his death almost destroyed Eminem!!! That's what led to his overdose on Christmas Eve 2007! I think anything that numbed the pain was what he was after! I love your reactions. Dealing with mental illness has been so hard. You are about the only therapist I feel like I’d want to continue seeing. (Let’s make that happen if possible haha) but with songs like this, I think you shouldn’t try to “like” the music, but be completely serious, and almost somber, so you can really get a feel for his situation. Either way it’s good, but I feel like that would’ve made it more powerful. Loving your channel!

Recovery is the title of the album It was released in 2010 (2 years after he got sober) Edit: I love seeing u dancing to the music U should do him more often! Edit 2: Doody is Proof (RIP) his best friend who got shot in a club in April 2006 He said this earlier in the song: "They say Proof just flipped out, homie just swift out and bust Nah, it ain't like Doody to do that He wouldn't fuckin' shoot at, nobody, he fights first But dwellin' on it only makes the night worse" Basically Proof's murderer claimed self defence so was never charged but Em doesn't believe that could be true but the more he thinks about it the worse he feels

Tom never feel bad for vibing to the music. That's what they made it for. Remember you can vibe in different ways, it's okay to vibe and relate on different levels, I think Em and Juice and all these people would love that you can relate and bob along to their music and feel what they're saying. Try not to feel that way Tom, enjoy it, that's part of the reason they made the music! So happy you reacted to this, definitely resonates with me so much. I lost my daughter at just ten months old in 2015, so this song fits perfect with what I went through. Decided to give up alcohol the day I buried her. That day I drank myself into the hospital, just not good at all and knew I did not want my life to waste away and did not want to give alcohol a chance to be an outlet. Instead, I started working out from 3 or 4 days a week to 7 days a week now. Anyway, I've been with my wife since 2006, married since 2013, and we've grown stronger since even though statistically we should've been divorced probably. I grew up being beaten as a child, my dad beat my mother so they divorced, but I'm the complete opposite of how my parents were and my wife says over and over she doesn't know how I've grown to be how I am. I just say, they showed me what not to do.

I think it would be really interesting to see you break down Eminem- Kim.. the song is intensely aggressive and almost a horror film you feel you get sucked into.. for some context it’s when em hit superstardom and while he was out touring Kim (his baby mama) got remarried to a man that had a son and the two merged families while em was away.. I think it’s great for background and take you away from the drug side and into the domestic violence

Amazing reaction as always Tom!!! This is another really important Em track, I love his honesty. I remember when this came out, I was blown away by his honesty! Even when he mentioned being fat and him hating his reflection - I hadn’t really heard this from Em before. He had put on a lot of weight and was getting a hard time in the press for how he looked - which, with all his other issues seemed ridiculous. But it all contributed to his situation and doing no exercise, eating chips and junk all day and sleeping etc. Also took its toll. Proof /Doody, his ‘day 1’ was shot and killed and he’s never got over this, even to this day, he mentions him all the time. Proof did so much for him when they were younger, from high school onwards - he gave him clothes, food etc when his mum wasn’t able to look after them. And he forced him to rap on front of people when he had no confidence, he always had Em’s back, I can’t imagine how hard it would’ve been coping with his death. It seemed like Em lost a lot of his ‘goofyness’ (if that’s even a word!), when Proof died. By all accounts - and on early videos you can see he always had a really silly sense of humour and was always playing jokes on people. That definitely stopped when he lost Proof, although I think you can see a lot of that side of him on his last album, especially Side B of MTBMB. He really sounds like he’s having fun again in his music. The last verse of this track is epic, he really picked himself up, thank goodness for his girls who helped so much, but also his own inner strength - the things he’s had to come through in his early years, through his childhood, then almost not making it, both in music and life! His inner drive must be huge!!!! Can’t wait for you to get to ‘Sing For The Moment’ or ‘Not Afraid’ - both great and more uplifting than the ones you’ve reacted to so far. Road to 1,000,000 subs!!!!

Behind this song em’s best friend proof had an altercation at a bar that ended up getting him killed. One story say he pulled out a gun and started shooting but Eminem says proof wouldn’t do that. This made him very depressed and he turn to drugs to help him and he blamed it on his fame. In 2007 he overdosed and was 30 minutes away from dying so when he woke up it felt like he woke up from a coma. This song was written after he recovered from his addiction and he wanted to make a song about his experience.

Hey, wish there was a better way, for me to say it, But I swear on everything, I'd do anything for her on any day. Xoxo There are just too many things, to explain, when it rains, Guess it pours, yes it does, wish there wasn't any pain. But I can't pretend there ain't, I ain't placin' any blame, I ain't pointin' fingers, heaven knows i've never been a saint. I know it just feels like we just pissed away our history,

We know just because you bop along to the music doesn't mean you agree with what he's saying. I don't drink lean or pop pills but I appreciate good music like juicewrld/others and I understand that music doesn't always have to be relatable.

You should check out Talking 2 Myself off of the Recovery album. As a Recovering addict (4 years sober), that song perfectly encapsulates what it's like going through addiction.

You've mentioned a few times that you like the songs about addiction - maybe check out Drug Ballad, its from before his drug problem got really bad but you can tell its already an issue. The hook on that one has a similar meaning to the one on Deja Vu, about how everytime he tries to stop, something keeps saying no or 'tugging my sleeve', and that he doesn't want to but he's gotta stay because the drugs have a hold on him.

So this song was a few years after his best friend proof was killed in a shooting. Em got so bad on drugs he says he was taking 60 Valium and 30 Vicodin pills per day. He was rushed to the hospital and they told him had he got there just 2 hours later he would have died. Fun fact a lot of people don’t know, Elton John is actually em’s AA sponsor. He has helped em and checked up on him ever since em approached him asking for help.
