I highly recommend watching the official music videos when reacting to Joyner Lucas. He's an incredible story teller that often raps from the perspective of other characters. Lyric videos don't do his songs justice.

I don’t really like how people say suicide is a selfish act (like the person in the second half of the song said). Living with mental illness can be so exhausting and so hopeless and so miserable that I feel it might even be selfish to demand a person go on living only because you want them to. Not saying suicide should be encouraged or anything (!). We need help. Just saying I wish people would stop calling it selfish and instead try to understand that it’s not about that but about the fact that the horrible pain of living has literally become more painful and scarier than ending one’s life. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, good song! Never listened to Joyner Lucas before. Looking forward to some more reactions. 😊

Speaking as someone who has massively struggled with suicide and other mental illnesses. The way I see it is that suicide is selfish, if I had killed myself it wouldn't just be done and gone. My family would have had to deal with the ramifications of my actions, now normally when that happens at least I'm around to help when I screw up but not if I did that. So to think that it isn't selfish, how can it not be. It's selfish to want someone to keep living? You living or dead effects and impacts multiple peoples lives. If you are alive, sure it's hard on you but if you end up dead, it's harder on the 1,2,3...etc people in your life. You may think it's selfish for them to demand you live but at least with you alive, it's only 1 person in pain and not ALL of those around you in pain. But it just comes down to perspective at the end of the day

Something that a lot of discussions and media about suicide get wrong is that suicide is NOT the easy way out. It's an incredibly painful, and usually quite lengthy process to get to the point where you can kill yourself. Your instincts are screaming at you to preserve yourself, but at some point the need to avoid harm outweighs the need to avoid death. It's mentally agonizing to break past that point, and it takes a monumental effort to take, what in your mind, is the only real escape from pain available to you. Another thing is that trying to keep someone alive by pointing out the pain they'll cause is generally a bad approach. Maybe you can guilt them into delaying it, but you've also made all of their relationships into the horrible, burdensome chains that prevent them from dulling their own pain. This creates a resentment which can turn into hatred or an intentional desire to destroy your own relationships to be free of those chains. You simply can't live for other people, there has to be something at the core of your being which validates your own life for your own sake, and depression and pain have the capability of undermining that thing and eventually destroying it. In the end, suicide is often rooted in a desire to protect one's self, and treatment cannot exclude dealing with the thing that person needs protecting from, whether it be life circumstances, bad relationships, sickness, whatever it is. It isn't a lack of willpower, or spine, or callousness towards those around you. It isn't weakness. It takes incredible strength to function under the pressures that give rise to suicidal ideation. Your world is collapsing around you and somehow you keep moving until you get to the point where it's simply impossible to hold the pieces together without help, like Atlas trying to hold up the world, except you're just a person, not a god. It's not a circumstance that you can just pull yourself out of with grit, determination, and happy thoughts. Your perception is breaking down, so you need external perspective, usually in the form of therapy to help you form behaviors that can mitigate and potentially fix the circumstances harming you. Your strength is entirely dedicated to keeping yourself functional, so you need a support network to help you with the parts external to yourself. Often times there's a chemical element that needs treatment. Having someone deal with all of that alone is essentially Russian Roulette. Maybe they stumble along until they can better their circumstances. Maybe the harm outweighs survival. Suicide is tragic and can destroy families and communities, but it's important not to place blame upon someone because they made the most logical decision available to them, at great mental and physical anguish to themselves. Help where it's possible to help, but when someone kills themselves, don't assign blame to them for it, just mourn the tragedy and do your best to help those who are still alive.

This song recides a littler harder with me now but I strive to keep pushing

I’m the same way bro when this came out I was just starting highschool dealing with all these problems just praying I could find love and peace… now fast forwards and I don’t have either of those things. Back then was the only time I’ve truly been depressed in life, one day I seriously started thinking about ending it all but was determined to hold onto the joy of life and find more of that joy… I still stand by that decision but times like right now (Got scammed and just went through a painful breakup) make me wonder if maybe it’d have been better to just skip the pain and bow out. But you’re right keep grinding… I was able to rekindle an old relationship and save enough money to buy a car. It just hurts tho cuz I make a lot of opportunities for myself but none of them have worked out and I feel like I’m just cursed rn. I feel I’ve been grinding my whole life and have nothing to show for it
@fa1l3ndecay493 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-tp2mg you’ll get there bro. God opens doors for people who grinds. In the Bible he talks about how he doesn’t really support lazy people not in those exact words. Right now I’m fighting for my son who’s only 9 months and I feel as if I can’t do this anymore. She almost killed me by hitting me with her car. She abused me for two years and I know that sounds crazy but it’s such a real problem that isn’t talked about enough. I’ve tried opening up about it and everybody just thinks I’m lying even though I have proof she was. Her own cousin watched her punch me 3 times in the face and yet she’s supporting her still. It’s so sad. I’ve been grinding so hard but it’s such a struggle when I feel like nobody is here for me. Paying $500 a month in child support and got 30k in lawyer fees. I’m only 19, I haven’t made 30k in all the years I’ve been working and yet I’m expected to pay 30k within a few months. I send money orders, write in a journal just so my son knows I didn’t leave him, I left his abusive mother. He’s my everything and I feel like my life is just torn apart. His mom is starting to alienate him since he’s just about to start talking. I missed his first steps, his first Christmas and I’ll probably miss his first birthday. I’ve tried FaceTiming, calling, sending letters but she just blocks me from doing those. She tells people imma deadbeat when I’m actuality I’ve been trying to see my son but she won’t let me. Life just has me down. But I know karma will come back around at some point
@JohnSmith-tp2mg3 жыл бұрын
@@fa1l3ndecay49 That’s horrible but bro you’re right, karma will come back on her. Keep fighting for your son and eventually once he’s grown up he’ll recognize how much you care about him even if he might not be able to do so right now. And it’s painfully ironic; oh yeah I know what you’re talking about cuz my ex also abused me tho it was more emotionally not physically thankfully, but that’s the main reason I had to break up with her. I cared about her and there were so many times she was so sweet and the best girl on planet earth… but the other times scarred me and I realized I had to leave. I wish you the best of luck bro but yeah the best we can do is just keep grinding until eventually that day comes

As a chronic depressive who has been mistreated by family for a long time, the whole ‘people will be sad and burdened by you leaving’ really doesn’t work for me as a preventative measure. It’s guilt tripping first of all, and it ignores the primary needs of the one who is suicidal. Additionally, I would fantasise most of my youth about being killed/dying and then imagining how people would maybe realise they’d mistreated or abandoned me, and wanted them to be in pain for leaving me behind. When you’re chronic and severely depressed for 15 years, and no one ever stuck their neck out for you, why should I feel guilty? I’ve been asking for help for this long, I was a child, and nothing. So you’re sad? Well, it’s a little too late.

The reason so many families struggle to deal with it, is because they know they weren’t there. They look at the last time they contacted them and find it’s been a lot longer than they would have liked. The regret and guilt they fell is deserved. Suicide in most cases is a selfless act to put an end to their own Pain and the pain they cause to others around them. Taking your own life is the hardest thing anyone would have to go through. Just imagine the point you would have to get to, to even contemplate it. Let alone actually do it.

We need more Joyner reactions! If you'd like to challenge yourself, try I'm Not Racist, Happy Birthday, or Evolution (evolution is positive growth)

Hey Tom @reaction therapy if you react to anymore of Joyner lucas' songs, you should watch the music videos as well because not only is he a very good lyrical story teller but his videos really help to sell the meaning of the story as well. Also, most of his songs are from both perspectives of the issue he tackles in the songs. Just a heads up for next time, I love what you're doing by the way!!!

I would listen to u by Kendrick Lamar (or even Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst), I can enjoy NF, Joyner, Juice Wrld, etc. but there's a lot more to unpack in Kendrick. Just feel like he does a lot more than scratching the surface

@@Yamakazi2000 it's very stream of consciousness and I admire that, I just think u delves further into the topic of self hatred and it would make for amazing conversation

Definitely watch the music video to joyner lucas' videos, that's what puts it all together! Joyner is one of my absolute favorites so heres some more from him that you can react to... these next three, i feel like, tie into each other so watch them in order. ---------------------------- - happy birthday - just like you - like a river --------------------------- - fall slowly -broke and stupid -FROZEN

Hey great reaction I really enjoyed it :) I just wanted to say that you totally should have reacted to the music video for this one. The music video gives the people characters and it helps tell the whole story better, just a suggestion. But again great reaction, I always love to hear what you think about these songs!

The spoken word type songs sometimes put me off, but this one was executed really well. Definitely was depressing, but what isn’t these days? lol If there is one thing in this world that can keep me here it’s the fact that there are people who wake up every day wishing they didn’t. I don’t have ANY of the traits required to be a good therapist, so that will never happen, but I know that we all have the ability to help someone feel like they’re worth something and I personally think that is worth living for. I obviously appreciate your reactions but the fact that your primary job literally saves people’s lives is what I appreciate the most. 🙂
