The variegated plants really stand out to me, super beautiful and eye catching. Wish I had your green fingers as I'd love a terrarium. Apologies for lack of communication of late been unwell with what I thought was a head cold and sinusitis xx

Oh no, I really hope you feel better soon! ❤ don't worry about it at all, just take good care of yourself! My fingers are *slowly* turning green, lol. I like the variegated plants, too, adds a lot of visual interest 🙂. Take care Alison, and thank you so much for watching!! 😊

Thanks so much, Gil! In theory it should still work on a larger scale 🤞. Unboxing for plants for it tomorrow, and then hopefully the video for the drainage layer next Tuesday. Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it! 😊

Thank you, I'm so happy that I could help inspire you! I guess it's a little like fish tanks in the way that everyone does things a little differently for the same good end result. I'm still very much learning lots along the way 🙂! Hope to have a progress update at least once a week barring any life stuff or set-backs. Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it! 😊

Can't wait to see your new one Tara! And I hope you have more luck with ferns if you get any again! Have you thought about trying some mosses in there? There are so many different land ones you could try, and they look really lovely as a carpet or base in less dense areas of terrariums :) Saffie

Hi Saffie! Thank you! (Psst 🤫, I did get a new one that's hopefully more suited to a terrarium and haven't killed it...... Yet, lol.) Plant unboxing on Thursday and hopefully an update to this at least once a week barring any life stuff or set-backs. I did actually harvest a little bit of two different kinds of moss for my second try at this, but they didn't make it like most other things. I am looking into some kinds that don't go dormant in the winter, but still a lot of research to do. I am growing some Java moss emersed, too, but no idea if it'll take to a terrarium yet. For the time being, pilea depressa is going to to be my carpeting plant. I do love moss though! Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it and hope you're doing well! 😊

@@TarasTankFriends I love terrariums, need to make a few more haha! I've seen lots of people grow java moss in terrariums but haven't really tried it myself, interesting too if it would take off! I've not really grown mosses but have been thinking of making a moss specific terrarium in the future. I think most people have types of plants they struggle to grow, I personally have never been able to keep a cactus alive for some reason, even when following guidelines! Is it a heated terrarium? Maybe mosses might do better over winter if it was, but then might affect the other plants, so much to think about with these (fingers crossed for your new one!) We have a fern growing in our green house, have no idea how it got there haha but it's huge. Perhaps some plants thrive more in controlled environments than others
@TarasTankFriends Жыл бұрын
@@KingsAquariumsAndReptileRoom it's not heated, but I've won keeping the minimum nighttime temp in the house in the winter at 60°F, lol. The small terrarium made it through the last couple months of the heating season with, so I'm hoping the new one will, too! 🤞

@@KingsAquariumsAndReptileRoom I have seen a pretty good video on mosses that are supposed to do well in terrariums on here, but I'll have to find it again. It wasn't serpa, but his videos are good too. Yeah, cacti are difficult! I have slightly better luck with succulents, but not great. The only thing is an aloe plant that's huge now that I've had for like 20 years that has decided to put up with me remembering to water it 3 or 4 times a year 😅. Awesome about your fern and thanks for the well wishes! 🙂🙂

That's one lovely terrarium! It'll look better in a bigger tank! I'd love to try a terrarium one day. Although, my allergies would get the best of me haha 😅
@TarasTankFriends Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Justin! I'm hoping it'll still work well on a bigger scale 🤞. If your allergy is pollen, tropical terrariums are usually so humid that the pollen has a hard time getting airborne. My husband has really bad pollen allergies and the terrarium doesn't bother him at all. It's worth a shot, and if you find it bothers you, you can always just tear it down and give the plants as gifts, worst case, you'll end up with a spare fish tank! 🙂 Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it! 😊

@@TarasTankFriends I fully believe it'll work out in the end! 👍 While I am allergic to pollen, I'm also allergic to mold... It'll unfortunately bother my nostrils. An allergen for each one 😂

Very nice video Aquatic plants that hate me 1 Java moss 2 Java ferns Apparently easy but I get brown mush and leafs that die and are replaced by dwarf stems you can only just see Maybe I’ll try again later
@TarasTankFriends Жыл бұрын
Hi Mal, Java fern isn't really an easy plant for everyone despite the claims. I find for me that it really needs a *lot* of potassium supplementation or it turns brown and dies with wimpy new fronds. I believe it also likes a lot of calcium. I've just about given up on any variety of it except "windelov". If you can get some of that, you may have better luck, that one is a lot less demanding of potassium for me. Hope that helps! Java fern hasn't really given me any specific problems, but I do think it likes hard, slightly alkaline water, because that's what I have. There are definitely some aquatic plants I can't seem to grow also, like fissidens moss, mayaca, or Asian water fern, just to name a few. I like to try everything twice just in case I can figure something out with them, and if not, there are other plants that like us 🙂! Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it! 😊

Man I can relate to a lot of your plants stories! 😅 I can do aquatic plants to terrestrial ones are tricky!
@TarasTankFriends Жыл бұрын
Hi there! It's nice to find someone who relates! 🙂 They are a whole different set of skills for sure, and finding out that my current residence tops out at 17% humidity in the winter probably wasn't helping the situation (if we didn't take showers, we'd probably just mummify here 🤣😋). Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it!!😊

@@TarasTankFriends Winter does a number on everything! I have to be careful with things on the windowsill in winter Especially my ficus trees!
@TarasTankFriends Жыл бұрын
@@IndoorEcosystem Ficus trees are beautiful. I've never tried a ficus myself, but I had a friend who could grow just about anything, and her trees did struggle a lot in the winter, too. I was considering some variegated ficus pumila for the terrarium depending on how much room I end up with after moving plants over, but choices choices choices! 🙂
