PART 2: Making myself a denim worker jacket using the Merchant and Mills Ottoline Pattern.
WATCH PART 1 HERE - • PT 1 : Making a Worker...
Fashion shouldn't be fast or cheap!
In this week's video, I am making myself a worker jacket out of unbleached denim. I split the video into two parts as I want to share as much of the whole process as I can.
Today I am finishing off the body of the jacket, attaching the sleeves, decorative topstitching, and finishing off with the buttons and buttonholes. This is a great project for intermediate/experienced sewers and shows the process of making a garment.

Watched this while making a jacket myself - different pattern and style, but really helpful to "sew along" with someone also struggling with the tricky aspects of vents, sleeve set etc. There's not enough of this kind of hands-on guide to process in construction of the more challenging garments. Nice presentation too - clear and lively commentary.

Thank you for your lovely feedback! I'm glad it helped you out with your jacket, so often those tricky constructions become much clearer once we've done it once. Hopefully, I'll have more videos with more technical pieces coming soon :)

Brilliant, love the jacket. I completely agree with your slow fashion ethic, and try to reuse and re imagine garments as well as making new. Can you tell us, what is your machine and where did you buy it? How have you found it performs with multiple layers of denim?

Sonia Butler thank you so much! It’s my favourite. It’s a singer heavy duty and it works really well with denim and thicker fabrics. The website I brought it from has sadly since gone out of biz but I’ve seen it on lots of other sites since. I invested in it as I’m sewing every day so I needed something that was up to the job!

Did you use top-stitching thread when top stitching or the same thread you've been using through-out the sewing?

I used the same thread throughout the whole jacket. I recently made it again and used the same organic cotton thread also.
