"THE LOST BOYS": A RETROSPECTIVE
(2004 / Warner Bros. - Monkey Feeds The Robot / 24 mins. total)
17 year "look back" on 1987's THE LOST BOYS includes interviews with director Joel Schumacher (FLATLINERS, FALLING DOWN), producer Richard Donner, actors Kiefer Sutherland, Edward Herrmann, Cory Feldman, Corey Haim; cinematographer Michael Chapman and more. Originally intended as a "children's genre film" (it's title taken from Barrie's PETER PAN), under the influence of Schumacher, THE LOST BOYS became a seminal 80s era "young adult" social treatise - a genre variant / companion piece to LESS THAN ZERO, ST. ELMO'S FIRE and THE BREAKFAST CLUB. It would also set the thematic paradigm / matrix for future young adult genre / drama "mash ups" such as the HARRY POTTER, TWILIGHT and HUNGER GAMES series, and non-genre entries such as POINT BREAK.

Jacob Dean : maybe not pity but sadness. His inner struggle to overcome a childhood attack (he told his friend Corey Feldman that while on a movie set at age eleven, he was raped by a man) was something that he struggled with. He died of pneumonia.

I still always remember when I was 13 years old in 1987 seeing the commercial previews of the Lost Boys coming to theaters, and how interesting it looked to me right away. And then I saw it and was so mesmerized by it. I must have seen almost a hundred times after that and I loved the soundtrack as well. This is one excellent movie and no other vampire movie has made such an impact like The Lost Boys.

For me this movie wasn't really about vampires as much as it was about rebels. I was around people, characters like the Lost Boys, in school and other places, where they tempted you to walk on the wild side. It's a miracle I'm still breathing at this point

I remember being very young, like around 6 or 7, when this movie came to HBO. My parents put my sister and I in bed to watch it. I snuck out and watched this movie behind the couch. I absolutely loved it and this movie began my obsession with vampire lore in general

Had no idea Edward Herrmann died. Bummer. I noticed IMDb listed one of his roles as Herman Munster in Here Come the Munsters in 1995. Never saw it but he definitely looked the part. I always thought he was the son of the actor who really played Herman Munster in the old show.

If you lived in Santa Cruz you'd definitely get this movie! Between the plot of lost boys and the song "people are strange" by the Doors it pretty much summed up the beach town. Sleep all day, party (murder) all night, blend into the surroundings = its fun to be a vampire in santa cruz lol

On the first day of 4th grade our teacher had us list stuff we did that summer. For favorite movie we saw that summer I wanted to put Lost Boys but was scared to say a rated R movie, that I'd get in trouble or my parents would or something, so I said some other dumb movie. Then the kid next to me said "The Lost Boys" and I was like "wait, no, I wanna change my answer! Lost Boys!"

Watch Lethal Weapon and pause during the scene where Riggs & Murtaugh are hanging outside the bank and you’ll see in the background of a movie theater marquee “The Lost Boys” on it. Both movies had Richard Donner involved and shot in 1986.

What he doesn't know (or maybe he does!) is that this film, like most, shows the actual Truth about the World. Specifically, that there is an invisible spiritual realm and not everyone on Earth is 'human' like they are told. Most on this planet are not human...

Was so excited when this came out cuz the original is my fav movie. The plot was kinda interesting but the acting was just AWEFUL, so bad that I laughed the whole way thru. If u take a shot of vodka every time u laugh at the stupid stuff u would be drunk 15 mins into the movie. N as for Corey Feldman, his acting is terrible no matter what movie his in except the burbs.
