Another great vid! I loved the winter camping trips to the Cedar City area back when we used to deer hunt out your way. The winter trips in KS and MO are a bit warmer but the importance of the correct gear is still the same. Keep up the great work!

Thanks buddy for watching this video, this series is still a favorite of mine, I just love the weather we had the conditions and the stuff we talked about. I plan on doing an update like this soon, you guys got some big snow out there this year didn't you?
@kansaspatriot20519 жыл бұрын
I'm in Southern Missouri now and we got 3" of snow last weekend which was our first for the year. We're scheduled to get more this weekend but nothing crazy. I dealt with a lot more snow when I lived in KS.

What a beautiful view out your tent. As I have said, Heavenly Father has provided the beauty if we only look to see it. I learned in winter camping to eat before going to bed, to stay warm. Something I dis wrong when ended up in snow this winter. This was a great series. It's great to see Alley out with you again.

Man Allie is so awesome... The Wife and I teared up a little bit cause this just reminds us of our dearly departed Berner "Louie" who used to accompany me on all my bush treks, especially the winter ones where he went bonkers, here in the PNW. Great vid mate, love seeing the "other-side" of your channel and your great stewardship towards the land and animals. I've hunted some very big game over the years, but I won't kill animals randomly nor will I cut down trees unless it's a full on Emergency situation and I'm doing it to save my life. Good on ya for showing folks that if we want to enjoy these wilderness areas we have to protect them and treat them well.

Ontario Knives are great, I have an old Machete that I used in Panama at the jungle warfare school.. twice in the 90's and have used here in the US to cut everything in sight. Mine is marked as U.S. It was probably made in the 60's and is still sharp and I have ignored it for years and it is still pretty much rust free as of today. I just pulled it out of the closet and looked at it and it looks great!

TY for the uploads, Nutn. The Buck Nighthawk is one good knife for the buck. The sheath is the only issue for me to be honest till I had a Kydex sheath made for it. Had mine for a couple years now and the damn thing has probably processed enough dead wood enough to make a 10x10 cabin and I spend a lot of time in the North Cascade mountain range in BC, Canada--2 to 3 times a week to be exact.

@bubblehead7680 Nope, I intentionally released them out of order. That's because views drop off in my series vids and I wanted this one first as it's a reference vid on my winter system. But this vid is lagging in views so I may just sit on the rest of the series and let it die. Part 2 is already uploaded. If this vid gets 30K or so views I'll release it as that shows interest (not much, but some!).

Hey Nutn, I bought a pair of boots about a year ago and they are leaps and bounds better than any boot I have ever owned. If you are still doing boot testing I recommend you give them a try. They are the Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX. Salewa actually garentees that they will not give you blisters. They also have a kevlar wrapped midsole that has not failed on me yet.

Nutn - I noticed that you used the Contour HD for some of your shooting vids. Have you thought about using it for these vids too? It is waterproof up to 3 meters & you can get a case for it if you plan to get it really wet. You can go to contour's website to download a free program to change settings like quality, lighting, and others to improve the video & save battery/memory. It also has a head band. I have used it in the Tough Mudder & other things & it worked well. Sorry if this posted twice

Have you tried the Kabar ZK warsword? Despite the hype, the design appears to be well suited for outdoors use. It's like a lightweight hoodlum or rtak2. Not a bad deal for the price considering the sheath.

Your crazy nutn. I slept in a Kelty Cosmic Down 20 in the single digits. Had some thin baselayer on and some light wool socks and I was fine. I sleep warm though. Been thinking about upgrading the bag, but when I can just throw on a baselayer and be fine its tough to. Plus if the wife is along we just flip one bag over and zip them together and it helps a lot.

For the Camelbak on winter hikes I blow the water in the hose back into the bladder. The bladder is insulated in my bag right against my back. Seems to work well. I've been meaning to suggest this for awhile: Instead of the target pitcher/ mug I'd use a shaker cup like found at GNC. slightly more money ($5) but still has the measurements on the side but the closes water tight and the have a nice pop open drinking spout. Great for making hot chocolate!
@lordserrot12 жыл бұрын
I've run camel back during the winter, but all you have to do is after taking a drink, blow back into the tube, to put the liquid into the bag. And normally, the bag is right on your back, so it stays pretty warm.
