This made me realize what a hidden treasure my husband's old Kirkbride TCR Bible really is! Thanks for the in-depth analysis.

I am glad I ordered the original Thompson Chain Reference LARGE PRINT KJV Bible in Leathersoft by Zondervan. I do hope they will continue with this original version. Thank you for this very informative Video.

I just want to thank you Minister Beaty for doing all that work and posting! I came across this video as I was looking up a misprint in my own Bible at Luke 9:41; "shall" is typed "shail". I wasn't sure if I just wasn't familiar with dialectic variations for that scripture. Anyway, so my dad is 86 years old and a very particular Bible scholar to say the least. Last year he went on his own to buy a new Zondervan Thompson Chain KJV Bible to supplement his older ones that are marked and up falling apart from the 80s. He worked tediously with the clerk to special order and paid over $200 for a large print leather-bound Bible (that he believed would be the same) at the only Bible bookstore we have in Fresno, CA now. He has been furious ever since due to all the things you have mentioned here and more. He complained about the price vs. the overall cheaper quality of the paper, print, disorganization, and valuable missing and modified supplements you mentioned. But what gets him the most is that the new version published in 2022 is/are produced in China (a primarily anti-God/anti-Christian nation). WHY?? He ultimately decided to keep it as a matter of principle to show what the devil is cunningly doing to The Word under people's noses and for huge profit. My dad wants someone to ask Zondervan publishers about that! Big picture, I have been stock-piling as many previous versions for a really decent price from Amazon sellers. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get an older version with thumb indexes which are really helpful. When I show this video to my dad, he is going really feel affirmed about his concerns. Also, I am a youth Sunday School teacher, and I really appreciated you pointing out some of the wonderful teaching helps in the concordance that I never even knew were there! Be blessed!

If you look at the 1990 version vs 1993 version a lot of the art and format has changed. I'm happy with all versions. I like the red highlights in the zondervan as well as the different art an format changes between 90 and 93.

I just bought the new Zondervan edition in bonded leather, large print, on sale for $36 via Amazon. The font is a great size, nice dark black and the red letter is vivid and perfect. It's really a fantastic edition. I am not a Thompson chain expert, but have watched a video that explained that although the loved old graphics are gone, well designed charts are in most of their places. And some of the chain references have been completed. Of course, I am not influenced by expecting it to be exactly like an old familiar bible, but I really really love the new Zondervan. Your video does make me plan to watch for an old edition in good shape :) But the new ones by Zondervan (large print KJV) are blessed !!!

The NIV comfort print version is super cheap now, think it's because it isn't selling. I've seen it on Amazon for $15 which is almost gift & award Bible cost. The Zondervan NASB version seems to have restored most if not all of the missing helps, including the Archaeology Supplement. They said they removed it because it was outdated... So why not update it? Seemed lazy. Well, they apparently did update it. I have at least 4 of the Kirkbride editions, overall I do like the typeface and redone charts in the Zondervan. But I wouldn't recommend it if supplement material is missing.

My assessment of the New TCR is one of Thanksgiving. I have been waiting for years to see the TCR updated. That don't and red letter were horrible. I refused to use my TCR because I could not read it. When Zondervan bought out Kirkbride, I was excited to see what they would do. They did not disappoint! They went with the 2K font, which is the most popular font on the biblical market, and their red letter is also a game changer. They also brought the book intros up to the front of each book. Zondervan gets an A+.

The new edition of the Thompson Chain Bible is 1000% better than the old Kirkbride edition. Zondervan actually knows how to make a Bible and the best part is that the new Thompson Chain Bible actually has red letter compared to the pink that Kirkbride always used. Your welcome!

Thank you so much. I had sent one of these to a friend and just told her to refuse it when it gets there after seeing this video. I wish they would leave the Bible alone. So, any idea where I can get a new Thompson's that's not been mutilated and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Oh! And I will look into the Kirkbride version as well. I really want the thumb indexes :)

I don't fund companies like Thomas Nelson, Zondervan, Crossway etc. I only buy independent KJB printing companies.

I’m so mad at myself for not doing more research into videos like these before buying the new Zondervan Hardcover King James Version Comfort Print edition when I should have bought the Legacy Edition with the original font and lines on each page. Now it’s too late to return or cancel my order and I don’t have the money to buy a new one. As soon as Ii can earn some more cash or Gift Cards for Christmas this may be one of the first things I do. I almost hope someone could have a divine appointment with me and had extra and was giving away for free that I meet randomly but I’m not looking for a handout or going to ask for one from anyone and I can’t count on that but it would be interesting. I would ask my church because I know sometimes churches offer Bibles but I don’t think that would be right. I am OCD but I can manage because what’s most important is God’s word. I always do this and I need to stop, not doing enough research ahead of time and being impulsive and regretting it later. Please pray for me. Whoever is reading this let me know if you see any sales on these Legacy Editions. At the very least I hope Zondervan doesn’t discontinue the Legacy Line any time soon so I can save up to buy at least 6 Bibles(Leathersoft,Hardcover, Large Print,Reina Valera Hardcovers, Reina Valera Bonded Leather)

I expected more grave differences the way you made it sound in the first video. Overall I like the old version for more info and sections, but the new one looks cleaner and more organized. I was looking for more details concerning what you said about them using quotes from the apostate non kjv bibles...but there was no info on that. I hate the fact that the original ones from cbp have no thumb indexes so not sure which to order now. Than again I have about 1% trust in Zondervan. A lot of the differences you found were nothing burgers tho, except for what is missing. Could care less about spaces for writing etc. I like that the new ones have those squares and triangles included to let you know the start and end of a chain. They don't include thumb indexes in the original so you don't feel like buying them. I don't trust Zondervan but you didn't show much concerning missing chain references. Thanks for making these reviews.

Wow! They literally ruined a good thing! Disappointing. Especially since now the classic Thompson chain won’t be avail. I’m starting to see a lot of this now. This generation is ruining the previous generations work. They can’t come out with anything on their own. They have to mess with what has already been invented, and completely ruin it. What a shame. The Thompson chain was just fine the way it was. They could’ve purchased it and left it alone. It would have made money on its own. What are they going to mess up next? The Turqoiuse??? The concord??? The scofield??? Let’s hope they quite messing things up. 🤦🏻♂️

Can't say I agree with you on most of this, but there are a few things you point out that Zondervan could've done more on in this edition, perhaps future ones. I really like the new KJV one I have, but based on this video I went ahead and grabbed a used 5th edition. I had already been looking for one as my Dad had one and it's not with the rest of his Bibles, so we think he may have given it away or it got left in a move at some point. I really liked seeing how much you and your Dads bibles have been used. I will say I am now thinking I'm likely to pass on the NASB 95 version that is coming out in October now, not due the version of course as I really like the NASB 95, but rather with grabbing the 5th edition and looking at all the stuff you point out that's missing the opportunity seems ripe for Zondervan to update and re-add the stuff they left out. On the recommendations, it would've been nice if you included the ISBN numbers in the video description. Or at least the publisher, etc.. Thanks again, somehow I watched all 4 video's.

Thanks so much for your comments. I’ll take a look at including the ISBNs of my recommendations in the description. Good call.
