Pt.45: Porsche 911 Turbo (964) Replica. Beginning work on the Space Frame.

Squaring up the spaceframe to the Beetle chassis. Welding up the existing mounting holes, and going over plans for the future.
My Porsche 911 (964) Turbo Replica, is a fibreglass kit car. It is built on top of a 1970's Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle chassis. The engine is a 1500cc air-cooled VW engine, with the original drivetrain and braking system.

Well done mate, chipping away at these jobs. Bit size chunks and all that 😄👌 One thing of note is that sometime the aftermarket body frames were deliberately welded a little ‘out’ to match the body itself which is often out too. Mine certainly is.

Thanks Andy. Yeah, these small tedious jobs are the worst. Hence why I slack off. 😅 Interesting point about the frame to the body. That is a very solid reason. I suppose that will be another adventure down the road.

I would make a square jig to match the Volkswagen. Then measure off the jig just for reference so you know one thing is square. That is how i would do it because the back would be hard

Yeah. I think that's probably the best method. To make a point of reference first. Then do a heap of measuring against it, to the space frame.

@@datbuild Yes I think that would be the lest painful way of doing it otherwise you would pull your hair out trying to figure out the back end because I would.

In my experience if you have any kit car thats less than 10mm out you are doing well
