Good progress mate. I know the feeling of these projects. Mine is on it's way and its in even more of a state. The beetle I am using is still 500kms away that I have to go fetch so yeah... some suggestions, I see you use the pallet on some stands, build yourself a quick and dirty workbench - and put wheels under it. Cost next to nothing and you can even reuse that pallet for pieces. Keep it up man, would love to see this done.
@datbuildАй бұрын
Cheers! Haha, sounds like distance is your biggest headache. That's a fair journey!!! Thanks for the suggestion. The whole factor of the pallet and saw horses was reusing stuff from past work. The space I use is borrowed, and I will probably have to be out by end of September. So, building more just isn't on the cards. Would love a shed of my own, but yeah.
@namtech425Ай бұрын
@@datbuild that sucks that you dont got a space of your own. But the work you do is great.
@datbuildАй бұрын

@bjroberts6521Ай бұрын
Thanks you have motivated me to get in the shed. So what if I don’t have benches set up, I can grab a pallet from somewhere. I did just pick up a solid core Door to use as a bench. However, I’m having second thoughts after seeing your round rubber bench have you patterned this? I truly was worried when I saw you marking the square tube on the brackets with the three holes in it that you weren’t going to screw into the holes. There is so much work to make new parts fit the application, keep up the good work.
@datbuildАй бұрын
Exactly! Make your own benches, tools, whatever you need. Makes it more fun (in my opinion). Sorry, what rubber bench? Yeah, there's a lot of trial and error that doesn't make the cut for the video. Namely as it would make the videos so long. I lost at least another 10 minutes of video (edited down), which translates to 4 hours of work. It's definitely a slow process.

I'm curious, but also... (kind of) don't care. It's a build of love, and spending money where needed to make it a cheap project. I've kept every receipt in a binder with that being said.

Definitely each have our own obstacles, for sure.
@ianwalker79342 ай бұрын
I would get rid of that A Frame , it’s unnecessary, it sits to low and going rub on every speed bump you come across, I would make a new support coming of the front pillars, you would also be able to support the front section of the car on it , it doesn’t have to be made from that same large tubing , I would drop down to 50mm square tube , you can make it bolt in easily to the original beetle body mounting holes that are on the top of the front beam , you just need a length of tube from that point to the plllar , that A frame thing you have now it over kill
@datbuild2 ай бұрын
Yeah. I have considered the options. It does do its job in helping to support the 'float' of the "A Pillar" in the middle, so the weight isn't resting on the floorboards. Funnily enough, the lowest point is the side skirts and front bumper. The A frame does sit slightly above. I do agree, a better piece could be made to replace it. I do though have the issue of compliance. The space frame/sub frame is covered. But any drastic mods I do to it, or add then could pose a problem. It's a massive annoyance, and caused simply from where I live.
@ianwalker79342 ай бұрын
@@datbuild it would not be a problem with engineering, when it comes time your engineer will want to do a torque test , supporting the front the way I have suggested will pass without any issues, the torque test is based on the specs taken from a standard VW beetle , the sub frame you have is way over kill including with the modification that I’m suggesting
@datbuild2 ай бұрын
Yeah. Fair point. Will give it more thought. Bigger problem is time now, which I'll be explaining in the next episode. That's going to complicate things, including modifications I'd like to do.

With these visors, I’ve noticed that they do some cheeky tricks with the sound, not in a pleasant way. Because of the form, it works as a deflector. Of all the sound that are coming from the road, right into your ear. As if you would put the palm near your ear at 45* angle. At times, gets quite annoying, but not as noticeable in my fiat 500 as in Dacia Jogger. Even though the sound insulation in Dacia is quite a lot better.

I’m surprised you went for the transmission adapter vs an in-cabin short shifter like the one from Cravenspeed or Bonalume. I have a Cravenspeed and it took 20 mins and some light cursing but was really straight forward. Feels absolutely great as well, with a much more solid engagement rather than just shorter throws. Great video though.
