Pt2: Fixed AWD slow engagement of rear on 2011 kia sportage.

This is Pt 2 of this story.
In part 1 I showed how the rear wheels did not turn when AWD Diff lock was turned on, with car jacked up off ground, until throttle was applied, and then it turned slowly only.
The yellow AWD light had come on intermittently, with no AWD codes showing until a couple of days ago, which was P1822 = pump for 4wd motor wire open load. In data history, it had also said P1830 = Clutch torque tolerance lower limit, but this has not stayed active.
Sooo. in this part 2, we can now see that all wheels are turning equally even at idle, (both with diff lock off and diff lock on btw) and showing where the 4 wiring loom plugs are near the rear diff, which I simply undid, cleaned with aerosol cleaner and sprayed with WD40 penetrating oil, and replugged. This has fixed the problem physically and explains well the intermittent nature of the AWD warning light coming on without a code, until as above, it has been staying on showing 'motor wire open load' . I have not yet put it back on a scanner yet, but the AWD has not come on and test drive on dirt with diff lock off then on confirms proper rear drive.

Hi Zoltan, my mechanic was saying that this cleaning of the terminals may be simply resetting the 4WD coupling and not fixing the root issue which is the coupling motor failing. So it may trick the coupling to start working again for a while but then the issue will likely come back again. So I was wondering if this fix ended up being permanent for you or if you have seen it come back again?

I have a Kia Sportage 2012 lx AWD. And there’s times where the AWD Warning light turns on. Today the light did not turn off at all, It remained on. The only thing the manual tells me is if I get the light, to take it to the dealer. :/

Dealers are frign useless most of the time. THey just cancel codes and give you the car back and a bill without identifying or fixing problems, or want to change the most expensive 'maybe' parts without comitting to doing so fixing the problem. could be. Always do stuff that's quickest-easiest-most likely - cheapest ... eliminate possibilities from there, instead of jumping to most expensive 'maybe' replacement. Try doing this, it's only time and costs nothing. If it doesn't fix it, go to step 2, whatever that may be.

hmm bugger, but at least that's eliminated. Did the driveshaft from front to rear turn? If not, then there's no output from the transfer box, so prob must be in front half. I've seen videos on youtube where drive coupling has broken inside Tbox. If shaft did drive, then prob must be in rear diff. Good luck Hassan. @@furygaming9136
