Same thing happened to a 1981 CB900c of mine...a chip off the old exhaust valve. The gasket looked fine with no sign of being blown, as did the other valves. No damage to the cylinder. I don't think mine was running overly lean, judging by the color of the spark plugs...and the smell of the exhaust when going down the road. I have the Hondaline fairing and bags, and that gives me a whiff of the exhaust on occasion. It definitely had that 'more rich than lean' odor. Most of my exhaust valves were too tight, tho all had some gap.

I found out it actually melted and didn't break off. Check out update kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6fZoHaZiLOjb68

Kaplan cycles always say they have to micro drum the jets because those bike always run lean. My 81 cb900c is lean and valves might be a problem. The Rpms hang around 5000rpm and slowly go down if I rev the bike a couple time, now this only happens when I have the clutch pulled in at a stop.

Yeah, I have heard many stories about burnt valves in these bikes. Yours does sound like a lean situation there.

Good video. Looks like you might have got lucky. If the heads are okay you’ll be rocking from the looks of things.
