Influence of Prehistoric is clearly seen on some of these designs. Maned stork and sunrise titan have some touch of Hatzegopteryx while titan stork gives me some Phosphatodraco vibes. I like all redesigns for azhdarchids of Kaimere but I would prefer more intense red on the necks of sunrise titan. Titan stork is my favourite of that group. Aneurognathids finally got some love. Althought still I think bat and aneurognathid rivalry is weird taking into account nightjars, potoos and frogmouths which are more like aneurognathids and cooexist with bats for very long time without problems.

Note about the 12:27 to 12:45 description : In general, we evaluate the size of animals following how high their shoulder/withers are compared to the ground (for the quadrupel ones of course). The mass or points where the head, neck or horns can reach don't count at all in this evaluation.

Beautiful. The designs of these pterosaurs are great. I like to think that most of these them are viewed in a similar way as birds are on Earth. They can either be a pest or a welcome presence. The exception to this rule would be the larger ones because those are much more dangerous to people and any fauna within their size class. Can’t wait for the tapejarid episode. :)

Sunrise Titans are truly awe (and fear) inspiring creatures. I’m guessing they have a pan-tropical distribution? Wherever there is warm grasslands, they are present?
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
That is correct! They need lots of open space, and forests dominate humid climates, so wherever in the tropics that there is open terrain and sufficient game, you’re going to find this species. Flying for a thousand miles in a day is easy (and pushing it they can cover over two thousand) and they can go for a week or more without eating after a big meal, so getting around is not a problem.

Note ! : - The Rat Pecker is also more commonly called under the names of Urchin and Wato. He's a member of the same genus/genera in which belong the Titan Stork too. - The Maned Stork is, him, more commonly called under the name of Eschelek and Corpse Pecker. He's in his own genus/genera. - The name "Corpse Pecker" is a vernacular name used for both the Maned Stork/Eschelek and the Titan Stork (also called Great Stork), despite these latter being not closely related pterosaurs. - Both the Rat Pecker/Urchin/Wato and the Maned Stork/Eschelek were previousely mistaken by the Assembly with two others small and not yet well studied small bare necked pterosaurs of tiny sized. Called the "Tiny Titans", these harmless critters are only occasional species and not permanent residents of the Known World, as recent studies have show it. Because of that, this region is truly the home of only four azhdarchids species, not six ones. The bigger of the two, with a pink/red head, is sometime hunt by the Kaimeran Bobcat on the House Prairie (as seen in the Bobcats of Kaimere videos) The Assembly have made two first attempt depictions illustrations of the two, but both are a little obsoletes by current standars and a more udapted versions of both should be neccessary, but the Assembly haven't had the time yet to slighlty edits them. - The Titan Stork have, outside his common morph seen in the current video alondside his melanistic morph, a big range of morphs, including blond prairie and dark forest. Some reports mentionned also the existence of a possible, very rare and elusive, white morph, who is said to also possess digits instead of the usual hooves of the species. Because of this latter trait, many naturalists think that this morph is the result of a rare mutation who give the resurgence of inactive genes responsibles of the digits aprearance, and who give the white color in the same time. Event unique to the specimen targeted and not hereditary. However, any true definitive evidences have yet confirmed this idea. A report from the North of Qajar, in the same time than the hunt of the Raven King event, said however that one specimen of this specific, yet unconfirmed, morph have been spotted. But more research are needed. - The Common Batwing Snipe is also called commonly under the name of Puti.

@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The redesigns were mostly skeletal and phylogenic. I n Death Walks on Broken Wings, Baturus says titan storks are nearly twice as tall as a man, and that Vaskalamaldus stands taller than three at full height. That will be consistent with the redesign. Wild titan crows aren't that tall, but Vaskalamaldus is quite outsized despite being an adolescent thanks to a demon hive infecting and enhancing him. Also, all the facts stated in the text are from the perspectives of the characters, and they might have some of the facts wrong lol

Then just one follow up question, maybe two. So since this clearly Redcom the original sketches for titan crows what do you usually do with those old sketches and the ideas that accompany them if they don’t move forward end of the story ? You previously mentioned that there were rumors of peoples far to the north teaming titan crows, and titan storks for riding mouse, is that still going to be included somewhere further on in the distant regions of the world? ( I have to admit. I really enjoyed the idea of warriors flying in on high, casting down javelins or striking at each other on the wing with lances… it might be a little too medieval though lol)

@TalesofKaimere

Urchin and corpse pecker were indeed reconfigured into the current layout. Sunrise titan is larger than Arambourgiania (20 feet tall and 42 foot wingspan to Aram’s estimated 18 feet tall and 35 foot wingspan). Weighs around 20-30% more. It’s very pneumatized with tons of air sacs, making it look much bulkier than it really is. I basically made it as large as possible while still being able to fly, though takeoff is highly inefficient and they certainly aren’t launching repeatedly in a short time frame and most of their hunting is done on the ground.

@@justinianthegreat1444 There are a limited range and number of firearms and ammunition permitted by the Free-States. Singe and sometimes double-shot capacity rifles mostly. Things can can be potent against big game, but wouldn't have game-changing potential in a military context. As for modern humans to conquer, I expect a small militia could do tremendous damage with a robust kit. We could pretty easily conquer most parts of Kaimere with modern arms and gear. Would not be hard which is why the Free-States doesn't authorize many firearms and those they do are designed for hunting, not military.

I'm surprised at how few azhdarchids there really are. I guess tapejarids take up most of the niches. 1. What defenses are employed by Kaimerans against azhdarchids? 2. Do some of the forts and castles use pterosaurs as natural guardians? (Since they're in the thumbnail for that video)

@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
1. For all their imposing size and strength, weapons made to target people can fell even a sunrise titan. Their torsos are as large as a very big man, so you might need a couple arrows, but the air sacs that keep them light means that there's a lot of potentially lethal targets. They are not built for a brawl. 2. They can bring down prey the size of a horse, but can only digest around 30-50 pounds at a time, so rarely bother with things that which more than a couple hundred pounds that they can carry up to a mesa or something for processing. 3. Yes indeed! 4. Not really. Pterosaurs make for fickle allies and aren't likely to do more than harass threats if they don't just fly away immediately.

@@opaleotuga7358 Like birds on island, with the trend/inclinaison to become Flightless to fitt the terrestrial open-niches, because others terrestrial animal like mammals usually aren't present in great number, it's highly likely that numerous Pterosaurs species in real life also become Flightless on island during the Mesozoïc. However, since the lifespand of an island is usually very short in geological time, their fossils must be not numerous, fossilized badly and hardly, to a point that we haven't yet find any specie such this. Outside that, rexents studies have shown that Pterosaurs were mostly for most to swim pretty good, especially the coastal species, and to fall in water like the Gannet Birds.

@@TalesofKaimere Until you get sponsors for these animals, did you like that we, us followers, can give you potential species candidates, throughout our online discussions, that you quickly put in a corner (like a dedicated Word document), from which you return and check when you finally focus and work on these animals the day they received a sponsors ? Because I think you're (will be) not against to have a base list for almost each to work on if you received one day, just in case, the opportunity, to explore these clades. Right ? Because having a base list to work on and informatives sources (like Documentaries/informatives scientific papers, KZbin videos or DeviantArt posts by others people) made always less work to do, and more time for the realisation of the episode in question.

@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Sometimes, although they're not hunting the snipes or anything. At most the snipes will browse their feathers and folds for edible parasites. Usually ST avoid ghlanos and giants. Giants with a sling can reliably kill them. Harpies tend to avoid them, but sunrise titans are known to raid harpy nests on occasion and are harassed away from their mesas accordingly.

Why do pterosaurs (especially later ones) have such long metacarpals? does it kinda work the same way as digitigrade legs? The extra "arm section" for lack of better words, granting extra launch power to get their massive bodies into the air?
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
I think you're right on the money. With the quad launch, it basically functions like a vaulting pole, allowing force to be directed directly opposed to the launch trajectory rather than horizontal to it if they launched with the forearms as the main delivery of kinetic force into the ground. Scary efficient build.

@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
@@tootbender6935 Their skulls were astonishingly lightweight. The bones were not only thin, but the structure quite filled with gaps to the point that some skills have an almost wire-framed look to them. Despite this, they were surprisingly strong in structure. Basically their pressure for being light was manifested in only structural or 'load-bearing' parts were retained and the rest atrophied. This allowed them to have formidable beaks and wide gapes (seriously some could swallow something as large as their own torso!) while not weighing them down. As with all things pterosaur, an astonishingly efficient build!

I don’t have any plans to do so. The advantages of being able to fly to new hunting grounds once a region is depleted is too great to pass up. Tapejarids, being stockier and more inclined to herbivory, have independently become flightless many times especially on islands.

Could be fun! A very difficult target to hunt given their speed and flight. Sunrise titans can swallow men whole, but since we're about the size of their torso folded up, we would likely vibe in the crop, be regurgitated and portioned out in safer territory, then eaten over the course of a few days.

Keenan just did a tone of artwork for these 3 pterosaur episodes, so I don't see a reason why we can't excuse the young or sub-adult designs being modified versions of the adult design. I personaly prefer that, because the alternatives are that we either 1) get all the live stages with separate illustrations but as a result we get less species illustrated or 2) we don't get any lifetages at all. What I'm trying to say is that you can't seriously argue that he doesn't put enough work into the episodes, just because he doesn't have the time to give absolutely everything a separate illustration.
