A hiring manager pretty much belittled me for learning this stuff from KZbin and self study. Then another hiring manager praised me for being a self starter and learning this stuff on my own. Thank you for making it possible for us little guys to learn this stuff.

Great video, thanks. Im trying to desolder and remove a micro-usb port from a Magellan GPS, but the solder is not melting. I'm using your process exactly except I'm using a butane torch full blast with a conical tip. Can it be its still not hot enough?
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst4 жыл бұрын
There are different types of solder and they all have a different melting point. Also, it is really important to use a high quality tools. 380c and above will melt most kind of solder.

Hi ,Thanks for your nice video . I have a 25w soldering iron . I tried to desolder a component but I think it's not hot enouph to melt it . What is the recommended soldering iron in watt ? Thanks in advancec
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst4 жыл бұрын
380c or above should do the job, and it is really important to use a good quality soldering iron and the soldering tip. Low quality tools will give you a hard time to do the soldering right.

I’m working on a tv circuit board do I desolder with the wick to take the chip off then I can solder the new one on?
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst2 жыл бұрын
It all depends. If the component is big enough and have enough space to use a solder wick, then yes.

How many watts is your soldering gun?
@Python-FPV2 жыл бұрын
Hello it was indeed a helpfull video. Do you recommend desoldering using a 15 watt iron ? Could it generate enough heat to do that. Or is it just for soldering ? Thanks in advance
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst2 жыл бұрын
Try it first. Every board use a different type of solder and components. It means, some of them have higher melting point and some of them have a lower melting point.

I just bought soldering station,so what’s temp(Celsius) do I set to remove ic chip using hot air and what’s temp(Celsius) setting to solder them back using soldering iron? Thanks
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst3 жыл бұрын
The temperature depends on your soldering station’s performance and the ambient temperature, but typically, I do use between 350C - 400C for both soldering iron and my hot air gun

Hello there ... Wanted to ask You as I am a beginner and I am trying to solder BIOS chip back to the motherboard. I have cleaned the pads with wick and I am now struggling to put new shiny solder on it. I am really dont know what I am doing wrong. I am using flux and I got two different solder but the result is bad. Thx for any help ...

Please tell me more about it? What happens when you try to apply solder to the pads?
@SVKmatt3 жыл бұрын
@@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst Well I can somehow apply the solder to the pads but after the chip just wont stick on it. When using hot air. I can see that the solder melded but after while the chip is not soldered and leaving chip feet tracks on the solder. I am like whaaaat.

Could you try to solder the chip leg by a soldering iron and see it does work well? If it does, maybe your hot air station is not good enough

1:11 You said the temperature is 380 Celcius?! RLY?
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst3 жыл бұрын
Temperature is depending on your soldering iron, performance, type of solder, surface temp and etc. You can go lower or higher depends on your tools and environment.

What's the best temps when using wick to desolder? The wick seems to stick and is hard to remove.
@PTITBROTHERGravenhurst3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of the solder, soldering station performance and etc.. Did you use flux when desoldering? Try to use flux. It will help melt the solder quicker.

When you have a hard time soldering, make sure your soldering gears are good ones. Cheap soldering machine and tools will cause poor soldering performance.
