I didn't mind the frequent pauses because you were actually imparting information I found very interesting. Other reactors who pause too much are obviously trying to avoid a copyright strike but don't always offer very good insight with their pauses. I enjoyed this very much!

I LOVE the way you breakdown each frame Chris - one of the few reactors that I feel is qualified to do so with your background in production and also vocally, so thanks for that - also, I literally laughed out loud when you got to Mitch and just said ' and Mitch is in a sheet of some sort'.... not even phased... I found that so funny (and yes people...for those about to hit me with the 'well he did it to represent this...' we know the meaning behind it)... but the fact that you know PTX well and just accepted it as a Mitch thing was humorous to me 😊

Interesting the point you made with Scott's 'eye lighting' where they would tell him to grossly limit movement. Obvious if you think about it but not something that would have occurred to me. Somebody REALLY spent some time with some of those time lapse shots, like the plant grow sequence, impressive if their crew did it, but I'm guessing it was grabbed from somewhere. The thing that REALLY amazed me about Kevin's beat boxing was that it was the first I'd heard that sounded MUSICAL. My daughter introduced us to Pentatonix (Daft Punk) and that was one of the first things I said on hearing it. I was also amazed at the leap forward in putting so many varied and interesting techniques together in an a Capella piece...AND the talent level of those kids. MHO, Avi was the other serious standout (who'da thought, right?). I didn't realize the prismatic effect was still an old school lens cover/filter, I had just guessed it was a digital effect now. Cool. Another fairly standard old school effect with filters was to install a UV (just glass) filter and smear a very light coating of vaseline on it. The amount differs the effect obviously, all the way to just kind of soft colors, if you want. I used to employ a UV filter on ALL my lenses ALL of the time, just for protection. If they do get scratched it was $3 for a UV filter rather than $100 or more for a lens (back then). More easily cleaned, too, since flat and the edges don't catch hard to get at crap as much as a highly spherical short lenses. You probably already know all this but JIC...old school 'wisdom'. You also almost never see anything but telephotos any more though, because they are so simple (element # wise, and internal transport systems) with the amazing degree of computer ray tracing optimization available now. Believe it or not, ALL of that was done by hand, and maybe some slide rule, in the early days. LOTS of elements moving every which way at different rates, and pretty lousy outcomes throughout the entire range, especially at the extremes. Fixed lenses were MUCH better, especially than early telephotos. Still some compromises, even today, but way down in the noise compared to back then. Go ahead, impress your friends. :-/ Although, that too any more, demonstrating wide deep knowledge is not as impressive since they figure you probably just watced a YT vid (or whatever) on it. Not the same in my day, either, not remotely, and I'm 100, only sixty. You are going to see AMAZING advances in your lifetime. You're getting about a months worth of technical advancement from back then (actually that is probably VERY conservative) in a day now, and that should just continue to increase, as long as civilization holds together, and science is allowed. Cheers, keep the faith, fun and educating video. Guess you can teach an old dog a FEW new tricks, though the brain definitely does slow down, so enjoy it while you've got it. Looks like your reaction vids are starting to get some pretty good views (remember I was at least one of the ones that suggested this in the comments, not that you probably hadn't already thought of it, not much of a stretch). I saw one at 70K and a couple more up in those kinds of ranges. The time to produce/payoff ratio is pretty darned good, on your reaction format vids. I like that even when there is some obvious negativity you could put forth about some aspects of some of these vids (not this one) you refrain, or at least react to those specific aspects a positive light. Good on ya. Although one of the funniest reactions I ever saw (and both she and I liked the effort) was the metal guy doing the sound of silence, where she laughed at one point, then pointed out the overly overt and dramatic nature of some of it and said "I shouldn't laugh, it's not funny", then got a bit of a smirk on her face and said "well, it's a little bit funny". Some beat her up so badly in the comments (most were nice actually, but critical of he critique) that she made a second video focusing on the performance as a voice coach, and critiquing the vocal aspects, which were pretty amazing, some of it. I think it was just an opera singer oriented take on it...sometimes things just strike you as funny, that's the way it is. Some people can't take a joke, obviously. I'm thinking the performer, if he saw it, would probably have gotten a chuckle out of it, too. Now for the 64,000 dollar question, did you actually get this far reading? I'm guessing maybe 30/70?

@@janetranslates Cool, but I suspect rather than "over your head" it more likely might have gone back before your lifetime, as that's becoming true for a larger and larger portion of the population, lately. My wife majored German, minored Russian in school, so could have been headed for that same type position at that time. Chris answers me occasionally, didn't here, not yet anyway...I was just wondering if he had that much patience or interest in the subject, or not. I learn something from his reviews pretty much every time, since it is a field (musical entertainment videos) I have had no experience in. Thanks for reading, it was a long slog. :-)

@@MrJdsenior LOL No, I'm pretty sure I don't have that excuse for not understanding the production details. You wrote, "and I'm 100, only sixty." A bit ambiguous. I assume you meant to say that you are NOT 100, but only 60. If you're actually 100, you've got me beat, but if you're 60, I win by a decade. BTW, I just reread your long original post and I think I understood it a little better this time. Now I'll watch Chris's video again and see if the same thing happens. (Wish I knew German--that's more than half my genetic heritage. I work in English and Spanish.)
@MrJdsenior
@MrJdsenior 3 жыл бұрын
@@janetranslates Precisely, I don't always proof read like I should. And you KNEW it wasn't 100 + 60, because then I would be famous! I'm 62 to be precise. Apparently I stand corrected on the assumption of relative ages...as I said, that upper side of the dividing line (meaning my age) grows lower percentage every year, so it works out more often than not, get to my mother in laws age and it becomes a much more sure bet (she's 96). "long original post" And yes, I tend to ramble and don't always get ideas across as simply as I probably should. I did proof this one though, so hopefully it is better. My heritage, at least back a long way before entering America (Mayflower time frame) was mostly Brit, so I got it covered in one, at least the majority. I took a bit of Latin, but as they say, what are you going to do with that, date a Nun? Cheers.
@janetranslates
@janetranslates 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrJdsenior And I'm actually "only" 71, so I can't claim a full decade. Don't worry; I knew what you meant! I try to proofread everything I post, but I miss a few, too. I've never been involved in film production but I'm interested. Exposing oneself to new knowledge is a good way to keep the brain young.

I've only read a couple things about it, like how it cost only $400 and was recorded in either a closet or their kitchen? Both? I forget which. Hey, Chris. This was a great reaction. Glad you liked Matt's haircut. I am curious if you have done more than just PTX. How about Voiceplay? Better yet how about Peter Hollens! Do you know him? Tim has done several songs/videos with him. One, in particular, that is just really cool, Misty Mountains. Come on man, I am just one of many fans of These Basses. How about bringing them all together to do a song, What do you think? How about a beatboxer together, your Brother with the other beatboxers. Here’s the Pitch: Basses do a bass mashup. The Basses are Tim Foust, Geoff Castellucci, Matt, Avi Kaplan, and Adam Chance, Maybe Peter Hollens Beatboxers: Adam Rupp, Layne, Kevin doing like a battle cry song that will go along with the bass mashup Now they all could be separate videos or in one but to have all of them doing something together might make the fans want to check them all out. I know I am not the only one out there that wants to hear all of them together. I also know that all of you know each other and mingle/talk to one another. Hence, Peter Hollens doing several videos with Tim. Not to mention including their own spouses in the mix. There are compilation videos of these men on going low and how low they go. It is annoying that there is not just one song but multiple songs that are compiled. The people who create these videos would probably want to save some time in editing all of these videos together to fit and work. Not to mention some of them like one more than the other. If you haven’t noticed by now that I am one who watches all of them, a viewer can see how annoying it is if you like all of these men and want them all just singing one song. That is all I ask. Just One Song. A decent 3-4 min song that shows everyone's lovely low notes is all that I ask. I have tried to speak of this or get this noticed. I think it has been long enough and time for all of the best Three A Cappella groups to come together. Change on the Rise” Avi of course, Misty mountains (LOTR), A Christmas song maybe. I don’t know, but I know I am not the only one who wants this. Please pass this on to your brother as well to think about it. Again love the video.

It's an educational critique, not just a "reaction" video. As a music producer, Chris has to focus on a lot of logistics other than the singing parts, including video editing, sound fine-tuning etc. You can always find the non-vocal coach reactors who just sit, listen, wrap up and repeat.

@@ms_scribbles Look! If you don’t like what I said, ignore it but don’t bother being sarcastic with your listeners! I like the empathy of sharing a love of the band with others! I thought I made a decent suggestion about the continuity of a piece being “adjudicated” by a reactor as being important. Maybe you indeed already know the piece and so that continuity in your videoed reaction is not important, but it should be! It’s as if you’re listening to the adagio of the Rachmaninov 2nd Symphony and you just stop it when the counter-melody begins. Yeah, I know that’s a stretch, but the point is valid nonetheless! @@Bonofox1 There was not one rude word in MY comment, and there was no rude intention at all....it is call FREEDOM OF OPINION.......we do not ALL have to like the same things, and last time I checked we are allow to comment as such. It is called a Personal Preference! I do know PTX, have seen them many times, as well had HF, and that is why I can have such an opinion and I CAN compare them! So don't assume things as that is RUDE. Enjoy of story!
