I couldn't stop listening to this song every time my parents fought, which was almost every night. Now they're getting divorced and this song has helped me through a lot of the process. I had it on loop the day my parents told us they were divorcing, and the day that my grandma passed. Long story short, just listening to PTX has given me a sense of comfort, and shown me that I can get through this. I know they probably won't see this, but, Thank you SO much for everything!!!

It's because he is singing along with the melody in this song. In most songs he usually sings a counterpoint bass line (which is basically like the short notes from an upright bass). Those lines tend to give way to the melody

SyeedSweis I believe his track his upped a bit more than usual, but his notes for this song are more in line with the general melody (but for the most part he is still singing harmonies). But you do bring up a good point about what his usual bass line is :)

@sparkles37373 not to mention Scott's sustained suspended 4th in the chord even when Kevin resolves his note, going from C-F-G-B-C to C-F-G-A-C. The F-G-A gives a feeling of resolve yet at the same time you know there's more coming. Chills! Truly a masterpiece!

This song... It's so beautiful, it has so many emotions and so much meaning to me. It's the fact that it is just their voices, nothing else. No back track, no beatboxing, just purely their voices. Just singing, and singing together. I know that the lyrics came completely from the heart and soul. This is the most beautiful song out of all of their originals, and one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. I'm crying, this song is so touching. I love this group, the beautiful songs that they have covered, and the even more beautiful songs that they have created. They are my favorite music group by far. ❤

this song makes me cry literally everytime I listen to it. I don't cry about music, books, or movies most of the time, but there's just something about this song. it's heartbreaking and beautiful. I love the prominence of all of their voices in this piece. you can pick out each one. The contrast in Avi and Mitch's voices makes it sound so full. And around 3:00, I think, when Kirstie and Kevin are sort of "backup" to Avi, Mitch, and Scott, it showcases all of their voices. Scott is normally the most prominent (not always, but most of the time, I would say), but having all of their voices equally amplified in this adds a beautiful effect. also, there is the part with two certain chords that always gives me chills. I have been trying to figure out for the past 10 minutes what the word for it is, but I think it's settling (?). At 3:17 It goes from a chord that's beautiful but just a little off and then it settles (if anyone knows the correct term please let me know because it is killing me not being able to figure it out. I'm positive I know it, but I cannot for the life of me think of it) into the "correct" chord. I could talk about this song for hours, honestly. I've been a fan of Pentatonix since they were on The Sing-Off. it's songs like this that really show how heartfelt everything they sing is.

Mid Or Feed I assume you understand the concept of Supply and Demand? It still counts for music... The money is where the listeners are, which shows that either 1: People are ignorant or 2: This kind of music is not as popular as the pop industry and it's more of a niché market. Both are valid points.

And honestly I'm kind of wishing someone could run to give me a hug cause I think I really need it now... (bad memories are coming up) But none the less I loved it soooo much. It's actually a dissonance followed by a resolution followed by silence and then they give us a familiar chord that we've heard throughout the song to create a relaxed feeling. It's a quite simple technique, but VERY effective (tension release, followed by more tension from silence, then a release of another chord).

Omyslash Z. I love the chorus change up.@0:55 normal then the jazz note at @1:14! You can hear and follow the harmonies of each part. Just perfection. At 3:44 I love how they kinda harmonize with themselves for a bit then sync with the track

Omyslash Z. After listening to it again I see I did have it backwards. Thank you. To me it seems as if the tensions and releases are not only pleasing on the ears but also a sort of metaphor to the theme of the song. "I was lost (dissonance) now I've realized (resolution)"

Two years ago, my choir director gathered a small group of her most talented choir members and created an experimental a capella group. We were kept a complete secret from the rest of the choirs, when we had to meet after school to rehearse, we would be listed simply as, "Ensemble." What song did our director choose to be the very first song we performed? This one, of course. Our first performance was one I've promised myself to never forget. The cheers from the audience, the pride in our director's eyes as she lifted and lowered her arms, guiding us through the song, and most of all, how connected we all were on that stage. It was perfect. The group was just an experiment. There was no telling whether or not we would perform ever again. But now, here I am, one of the only original members left in the school, revisiting the song that started it all. Ever since that performance, we've been offered chances to perform outside of school on multiple occasions, we have our own special jackets, we've been offered the chance to perform America's national anthem on live television, and our group has been given a name. We are the Encores. And as long as I live, I will never forget the small group of people who started something beautiful. They're like my family, and I couldn't be happier to have known them.

The memories you share from learning this song and performing it are really ones that you don't want to loose. Right now I'm also the only original member being there for 3 years while everyone else dropped out or went to highschool. Though are accapella group wasn't a secret, it's a really big achievement.

Man I haven't listened to this in years. That crescendo harmony in the chorus sends me to outer space. I swear I feel like I'm floating.

These incredible people give us so much, so so much. They give us variety that includes ??? well.... EVERYTHING! For quite some time now I've wondered about their touch of the Holy Spirit and yesterday I found out... I found out one of their spiritual callings comes with their faithfulness to pray before each performance. But for this moment, I'm trying to say "well done true & faithful servants.

I will never understand how artists blessed with never-ending talent like Pentatonix struggle for the attention they deserve while people like Mr. Bieber (whose video is suggested to me on the right for unknown reason) earn millions of dollars just by looking cute and mentioning the word "baby" and "love" at least 20 times in each song. It's just not fair. Please PTX, continue making music until you are so big you can spit down on Bieber's head ;)

Heck no. I wouldn't want them to be BIG like Justin Bieber. Think about all the stress and pressure that they might have if they do. I just want them to enjoy doing what they love and, yes, earn money from that too. It's not all that good if they get a lot of attention from people, especially the media. They would have less privacy and that would drive them crazy.

Everything in life has a good and a bad side, but I understand your point. Maybe you're right. But I think a lot of people think that a cappella is boring church music for grannies. I'd just like those people to see how wrong they are.

You just cant get better than this. Music on the radio is fun and catchy, but when you strip everything away and make almighty music with just voices...it touches something in the human psyche that makes you hold your breath. Your facial expressions mirror the emotions. Just voices. And 5 people that really grasp the notion of soft power. You hang on every word and note til the end. PTX is just the pinnacle of vocal music. Period. Fav song. No question.

I just discovered this while listening to the PTX playlist on KZbin. My Mom passed in March of this year, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. I cared for her for 10 yrs and she died at home and I'm haunted by her death. This song perfectly expresses the night she died.. I want to thank you guys for it. It is helping me with my grief.. facing it. You all are amazing. Avi and Kevin, thank you for writing it.. it is wonderful to hear you both sing in harmony with the others. This is a masterpiece in my view. Thank you so much.
