My mother is featured on this song! @ 1:33 I'm very proud of her and all that she (and my father) accomplished during the strike. Thank you so much for including her on your album PSB! She's also featured on the song Mother of the Village too =D!

I was looking for it too, but I couldn't find a recording. "Sian Williams, assistant librarian, helped Willgoose discover an interview with Christine Powell reflecting on the strikes of 1984 and 1985. She can be heard blazing a trail for women in “They Gave Me A Lamp”: “I didn't see any reason why I shouldn't be out there doing what I was doing, why I shouldn't be in the support group.”" www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/public-service-broadcasting-interview-every-valley-willgoose-coalmining-ebbw-brexit-trump-a7824571.html

Omg really?! That is amazing. That was one of my favourite parts. Your mother was decades ahead of her time and she and you should be proud. Thanks to your mother for being part of a heartwarming song. And I am sure you are lovely too!

I saw PSB perform this in Manchester on Monday night and can't tell you how much your mother's words really touched me. She's a role model for my little girl and you're right to be very proud indeed!

Bloody hell that's a lovely little song isn't it. The subject matter at the heart of this song and of of Every Valley as a whole is still very raw and important to the communities it effected, and PSB have done them proud here. Not surprising though is it? Best band around imo. JW and co keep knocking em' out of the park!

My thoughts too. I have not loved a band this much that I can remember in my 48 years. I can't wait for the new album when it arrives.I have seen them a number of times now and I want more than anything to see them perform Every Valley in Wales. I may consider the July gig!

I have not heard a song by PSB that has not choked me up. This and The Other Side have me on the verge ofwaterworks. Had this play on the drive to work one morning just before I got in and was like 8 minutes minutes late because I had to collect myself in my car before heading in lol. Wish I could better express the gratitude I, and your fans, have for just how much you mean to us, and how important you are for the world. Thank you.

"If you could get the women into one, you could get them involved in one thing, you could see them in this other light." "...and then they started questioning other aspects of their own, not just relating to themselves, or, at yourself, 'politics was just something that wouldn't affect me', but politics is life, and everything to do with it affects you, directly or indirectly." "A lot of women weren't as fortunate as me, they weren't taught to wire a plug, they were taught to make a sponge; they weren't taught how to change a wheel on a car, they were taught the proper way to iron a white shirt." "...you can't climb up this tree, you're a girl. You can't come with us 'cause you're a girl. And it made me damned determined to do it. And I suppose it sort of stuck with me, so I... I didn't see any reason why I shouldn't be out there doing what I was doing, why I shouldn't work with them, why I shouldn't found a support group I think a lot of women found their feet." "I've been in front, I have never give in, I have never sat back, and I have never refused anybody, and I am very proud of it, and I'll be proud to look back on it."
