Unfortunately no as of yet. As a cast member who has appeared in Hercules as well as previous Public Works productions, I originally anticipated there would be a cast and crew screening of this performance. That had been the case in the past, but not so this time. I believe it has to do with Hercules being a Disney property, which makes clearance for release nearly impossible until further notice. I'm at least as disappointed by this as you are, for I've been dying to watch the entire show as an audience member rather than an actor. (I portrayed Amphitryon, and it was one of my most enjoyable experiences on stage.)

@writegirl4225 жыл бұрын
Jelani Alladin has said in an interview that he has received hateful comments online because of his casting as Hercules, it just hasn't been frequent because not many people are aware that this production exists. Obviously, a live-action remake of a Disney movie is gonna get a lot more attention and press than an off-off Broadway remake is, so all those people that are complaining about a black Ariel probably have no idea that there's a black Hercules.

@@charlottep4222 this is the problem with the kind of cultural appropriation that Disney's so callously engages in. You probably know nothing of the seven muses and the sacred, inspirational role they played in Greek mythology and to Greek culture as a whole. So to you it seems a stretch when others recognize the way this cultural property has been reduced to a bunch of women jiving and voguing across the runway. To some of us it is quite plain, and quite offensive
@shannonrhett33042 жыл бұрын
@@writegirl422 , I understand Jelani was also similarly attacked being cast as Kristoff in "Frozen." It's beyond unfortunate that such hateful people fail to realize he EARNED these roles, based on his boundless energy and undeniable talent. I know there are multiple comments like this one, so I'm sorry for singling you out, but I felt like it was worth mentioning that this isn't a Broadway production. It's an annual community theatre/outreach program that Broadway actors lend their talents to so it'll earn more money for the organization. (There are over 200 untrained locals in the show, with very little rehearsal time, and no significant budget for costumes and sets.) It's not meant to be pre-Broadway or Broadway-level or anything of the sort. Someone might get inspired and polish it up for a pre-Broadway run, though. Who knows.

@@p0lyxena no, I quite properly limited my criticism to those who who were saying things like , "Since I saw the show and loved it you should love it too and if you don't: there is something wrong with you". Such expressions generally come from people who feel they are entitled to tell others what to think. not based on any demonstrable and meaningful criteria, but simply because they think so. This is a ridiculous notion even if you know the person, and especially when it is said to a total stranger. You go on to further disrespect me and yourself by wrongly assuming the nature and source of my criticism of this shows minstrel like approach to the material; which appropriates and ignores the values and symbolism that material represented to the originating culture. Rather than being presented with respect and admiration for the way they brought needed wisdom, integrity and advancement to the Greeks of the time, the muses are reduced to being loudmouth beeyotches only worthy of laughter, as they vogue their way on the dance floor throwing shade at some kiki party. Thusthe way that some southern minstrel show would have ignored the nature, dignity and wisdom you would find a tribal shaman; who would instead be portrayedd as some kind of jive talking cat dealing the voodoo juice while doing some stepin fetchit dance across is dance floor.
