its pretty sad that you didn't know about this stuff before stockpiling, your ignorance can get someone killed. You shouldn't be anywhere near a stockpile operation with your lack of intelligence and training my god man.....how pathetic does someone need to be to be in an industry and have no experience? Reduce risk of killing people, get out now before you kill someone

I was more concerned about spontaneous combustion. Had a couple of fires, in a stock pile you can open it up but in the pit we had one burn for over a year until we cut round a hill with scrapers and broke it open

Look at the underground fire in Centralia, Pennsylvania I believe. The town used to burn their trash which accidentally ignited an underground coal mine. It has been burning ever since almost 50 years* and counting. Entire town had to be abandoned.

@@seanriopel3132 yep, the underground mine here back in the 90s was on fire, they sealed up some of the drifts, they were bringing in a semi truck load of liquid nitrogen every 3 days and injecting it into the drifts until one morning, the gas levels were to high so they sent everyone home and later boom.

@@mfbfreak The voids are at the intakes to the conveyor systems. Those are at known locations. Some of these dozer operators get in trouble because the intake gets covered and they lose track of where it is, and drive over it. A cell phone GPS could easily let them know where the intakes are.

Radar has been around in a usable state since the 1940s, but it may not be so easy/cheap to use in this kind of equipment. It’s cheaper to make safety videos and use cheap methods of warning than to actually value employee safety if you’re a mining operation.
@supertramp60112 жыл бұрын
No mention of fire hazards? Would have thought this could be a very serious issue, with hot equipment working on top of coal, possibly emitting dust particles or gases which are extremely combustible.

there was a rather bad (and documented on video) incident where a guy and his dozer got eaten by one of those drawpoints, which is why these exact safety regulations were implemented, and why breathing apparatus became required.
