In a normally functioning legal system, the owner of a platform should be able to set the rules. But these days the courts have a big grudge with anyone or anything that makes money and is successful. That’s why google and apple were forced by the courts to implement measures against their monetization model. The courts don’t seem to understand, competition means different entities compete for customers, and not coming in withe the big bat saying „This is Tyrone, he will be using your okatform for free from now on, make sure he feels welcomed here, or else“

Ok I figured one of them out. The strategy game is "Encased" by Dark Crystal Games and released in 2021. It's a post-apocalyptic turn based RPG. Steam reviews mention combat as pretty lacking, including by some Fallout fans, so that's not a great look. However, it still might be worth picking up for the story etc.

They were talking about THEIR quality of life 😂 On a sidenote, I love what you're doing showing off these Indy titles, but I think it would be even better if you left the title of the game on screen. I can't speak for everyone of course, but I generally listen to you while doing other things and regularly glance at the screen. Several times I thought "hey that looks cool", but I missed the title. I could go back of course, but I need to be very interested to do that. I don't really see a downside to just leaving the title in the corner for the whole time a game is shown. Love the content though, keep it up 😊

I feel like there should be a term for updates that are actually just anti-consumer changes meant to mislead consumers or reviewers by adding them after the initial sale. Adding monetization, antipiracy that causes lag, requiring other accounts etc., removing functionality or gatekeeping access to previously available functions, all after the fact. I feel like these are strategies to sneak in changes to the game that would have hurt the sales/reviews if they were there from the beginning. We need a name for this type of "update". Im not saying this video covers such an update, but it is a related idea, made me think of it.

@NerdNest DirectX11 vs DirectX12: The simple answer is that in most situations, DirectX 12 should be your pick but it can be very much game dependant. It is the newer Microsoft graphic API designed for multi-threading allowing better CPU/GPU utilization and performance. But in the real world, this can be game and device dependant and sometimes DirectX 11 may give you better results. A good example where DirectX11 was better for me was on the FF7 remake playthrough on the SteamDeck with Dynamic Resolution disabled. This gave me improved graphics and performance. But on my desktop and at a higher resolution, DX12 would have likely been the better choice for that title. Thanks for the video! Glad to hear the 2k launchers are mostly getting the Axe. Cheers

I kind of like the idea of a Steam Deck mini, obviously losing the track pads and quite a bit of ability. I would love something to be kind of like the retroid, able to take it on the go but to have the same OS as the Steam Deck. Understandably you would have to know what you are losing for more portability. It would be nice to have the Deck in a pocketable form, still so many great games to play from my library. I know this can be done somewhat already, I would just like Valve to do it. Off topic, I know. Wishful thinking. I also just bought Crystal Project because of this video, I did not know that existed, kind of hyped after the discovery. The reviews are so passionate, never seen such love! Thank you.

Choose DX12 for the additional features it provides, unless you have problems then forcing DX11 can be a troubleshooting step.

Oddly, Borderlands: The Pre-sequel still starts their launcher, which I tested after that post came out. Borderlands 3 doesn't have it, but I only just started playing it, so I don't know if it ever did. As for DX version, I usually pick 11 unless there's a good reason to use 12. DX11 is usually always faster. I'll include launchers in my reviews of the game, because the launchers are the user's first interaction/impression, and can make or break it, as the Steam Deck shows. If I can't play a game because the launcher crashes or has broken interaction, I can't even play the game. That's worth a review mention. Private Division added a launcher to the original KSP, which I reviewed negatively due to that. It was removed earlier this year, and I subsequently updated my review to positive.

I remember when midnight suns first came out I would try to launch it but it would open the 2K launcher to Xcom 2 instead. It wasn't possible to even launch the game unless I added the launch parameter to bypass the launcher.

Last several years, if i see a game on Steam say "Requires a 3rd party account", thats an instant no purchase for me. Dude, you don't need to do this convoluted command in Launch Options to play *Civ V* in DX11. Just do this instead: *Open Steam, right click on Civ 5, Properties > General tab > Launch Options type "-dx11". Run Civ 5, Choose DX9 version to launch (it will **_actually_** launch the game in the DX-version you annotated in the Launch Options).* Also, _%command%_ is a Steam _Linux_ command, _not_ necessary for Windows.

This would be wonderful news for me, if they included Borderlands 2 in the list of launchers they'd remove. It's really annoying to click "play" in Steam then have to click "play" in the launcher for BL2. Their Linux version is vastly different, and in my opinion superior to the Windows version (because it doesn't have ads in the main menu), but their cross-platform feature is still borked between Linux and the Windows version, which is what is installed by default on the Steam Deck, which makes Linux to Linux play impossible until the desktop is set to use the proton version too. Ah, technology.

This is great thing, though I have no objection to games having their own launcher when it makes sense for the game's function - supporting modding, Engine/DX settings changes required for different hardware etc. It just has to be not obnoxious and for good reason. Having to work around the darn broken launcher, sit through the adverts and other crap like EA etc make you do just to get the game working even if its on windows is just annoying.

This is an issue in IOS and I believe will be required in Android store - EU requires open store policy to allow competition- for me I prefer the seamless method of using steam or IOS or whatever platform and purchasing only through that specific platform- this side quest out of a specific platform is not why I use specific platforms -

Platforms like Steam & Epic & GOG should not allow 3rd party launchers. If I buy a game on Steam I expect to play it using Steam & nothing else. I expect the play button to launch the game, not another launcher.

Most launchers works fine for me, even rockstar-city. In gamescope too.. But cool and good, always better without. Cyberpunk have that --skip-launcher. But should have been just a option toggle in steam launch instead, so we dont have to go digging for special launch flags. Ubisoft is one of the worst, when it comes to get in the way. Yes and steam is already a game-drm so why add denuvo.

I prefer vulcan when available, but sometimes only DX11 and DX12 are offerred. I prefer DX12 if it doesn't give me issues. Playing Ready or Not multiplayer on DX12 is a terrible experience but works great on DX11.

Dx12 has all the new bells and whistles, most of the time will look way better. FSR cant work in dx11, same for ray tracing and other new techs like so.
